Man, those are some ugly fuckin' guns :) Didn't know the Yugo's made any tokarev's....I went with a CZ-52 for my first pistol, 7.62x25 is a helluva round. Shoot good?

Haven't shot it yet. Got the gallon of cosmo cleaned from all the parts last night and reassembled everything this morning. Waiting on 2 cans of Polish surplus ammo. Gun was a great deal for the condition it's in @ $209.00 (J&G hand picked). May pick up another one if it's a good shooter. :smoke:

How do you remove the factory recoil spring on these guns ? (I'm trying to install a new one) Do you have to punch out the center axis pin from the guide rod and take it apart ? The pin looks like its peened in there.(crap)

I just pulled mine back out to see. It looks like that pin has to come out to replace the spring. I will give it a few taps with a punch tomorrow and see how difficult it is to get out. I also just removed the mag safety so it can be fired with no mag inserted.

I just looked at the guide rod a little closer. If you lock the slide back and look at the end of the guide rod sticking out, you can see a little pin near the end. You should be able to pop this pin out and remove the end of the guide rod to replace the spring. My smallest pin punch is buried someplace right now so I can't try it. But, check it out.

Id like to hear a range report!!!:smoke: I've been looking for a TT-33, but they can be expensive in good condition. dang $200 is hard to pass up if they are any thing like the "original"

Dandiesel, from everything I've read, the M57 is seems to be superior to other Tokarevs. Captured recoil spring (fuck yes), better safety, higher capacity (1 round), mag safety (can't fire with no mag inserted, desired by some, I removed this on mine) longer grip makes it a little more comfortable to hold. I really dig the assembly of the pistol. It is very much like a 1911, but easier to strip down and reassemble. Takes 30 seconds to field strip it and reassemble. No special tools or technique needed. After reading about other Tokarevs, I'm glad I went ahead and ordered this one. Rifling is solid and bore is bright. can't get camera to properly focus on the bore at the moment or I would post a pic.

Range report within a few days hopefully. 2 cans of ammo will be here tomorrow according to UPS. If all goes well, I will have a pair of them soon. Without even firing it yet, it's becoming one of my favorites. Range test will tell for sure.

I'm also picking up the Wolff Service Pak - Type 1 for it and going to see if there is any improvement or difference after firing it with factory springs.

KC913,

You're going to love the way the M57 shoots. It's has some pop for sure, but the recoil is not unpleasant at all, and it's also quite accurate.

Please keep us posted on how you manage to change out the recoil spring. I tried locking the slide back and punching out the top pin on the guide rod like you mentioned, but it too looks like it's peened in. I gave it several good whacks, but it wouldn't budge. I didn't want to bang on it too much and risk bending/breaking the guide rod. I might just have to drill it out, install the new recoil spring, then re-peen it. :cryss:

Ammo came today. Haven't found any cracked necks so far. Posted several pics as usual. I'll have to see about the guide rod spring removal and let you know.

Just got back from the range. Went through 280 rounds on this trip. May go back again this evening. Every round went bang, no duds. I also fired a few mags full of cracked neck rounds (found 20 cracked necks out of 140 rounds, average 10 per box of 70, not too bad) just to test and they all went bang as well. It was pretty damn accurate once I started getting used to the sights. I still need to adjust them, though, as I was hitting slightly up and to the left pretty consistently as you can see in my second target. I will be buying another M57 and a couple more cases of ammo soon. It's my new favorite range pistol. :super:
