  1. Looks like a cool design, SOPMOD.. still too much plastic involved for my taste.

    ymmv.

The AKM4 is all steel and aluminum except for the M4 stock part. The plastic hinge version is the second type shown. They offer the standard M4 buffer tube(buy with a threaded tail cap) and an M4 telestock.I don't like their telestock so I would probably replace it with a Magpul or a VLTOR but their hinge is probably 2x as strong as the hinge on my Ace stock and it's a better design.

The first one referenced in the video is the USAK (or UAS? you refer to by 2 different names), is that the metal one?

Ah, going to the website answered my question. Is there any chance you will be offering the 1st stock with the adjustable cheek rest without any folding or collapsing? A fixed stock like that would be pretty useful.

  2. I have a Saiga 308. After spending a lot of time with it lately making tooling of all types to do some mods on it I noticed that the receive on this weapon is interesting. The left side of the receiver is flat very typical of a standard AK as I know them but the Right side (Bolt side)has the RPK type hump near the front trunnion block. The question I have is this something that only the Saiga's have? Also does any one know if the hump is in fact shaped the same as the RPK's or is it slightly different. Any information on this would sure be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

The Saiga 308 has the hump on one side. The other calibers don't have it. The Vepr has it on both sides, in all calibers.

  3. DO NOT BUY!!!

I have seven of those SSGMP308.

Two of them are already broken just by the pressure of loaded ammo.

Not sure if other five will survive: very shitti material, IMHO!

How the hell can I fix them?

    Any glue?

    Tnx.

I can't tell from the photo, and I don't know that part number. Who is the manufacturer of the broken magazine?

  4. I would give my left nut for a super vepr, but I doubt anyone would trade.

Here is one that's been converted! 2100.oo!!!

Maybe you could raise funds by auctioning lefty off on eBay?

That's not a Super Vepr anymore. That is bullshit. They turned a nice rifle into an expensive pile of shit that looks like a cheap pile of shit. That's like buying a Ferrari and "improving" it by adding one of those ridiculous body kits you see on Honda Civics driven by 17 year olds.

In fact, I'd like to personally bitch slap whoever was responsible for ruining that rifle.

I agree, although a blanket party for them would be more fun. I gotta wonder - what did they do with the stock? I'll bet it would make me want to kick them repeatedly once they are down.

  5. GREAT!

I'd ask this through your web site, but there may be others interested in your answer. Do your floorplates replace the Russian manufactured floorplates of the FBMG 20 rounders?

Yes, They do! I will get some more pics up. We just got back from shot and are getting caught up on our email :super::)

Since you joined in '06, it seems obvious you've upgraded your original account to a business member. Do you mind if we know what name you used to go by? Just for the sake of clarity.

  6. I don't think you can do it for legal reasons. I would consult someone in the know. It's my understanding, and I am no expert, that to convert any class 3 weapon requires filing the appropriate paperwork.

Strictly speaking, it isn't a conversion, but a barrel extension. I dunno, class 3 stuff is interesting, but the paper work is burdensome. So far, I haven't been bitten by the bug. I was looking at one and I asked a similar question. The dealer said it was a no-no. Any legal experts out there? Ha ha.

  7. Remove the silver-soldered barrel extension.Punched out the pins. Made a chamber insert out of what was here. Welded up a tool to press out the barrel from a completed frame(always wanted to). Pressed out the barrel.

    Where tape starts.

    End of barrel.

Barrel Jigs to press out barrel.

    A: 12g shell base

    B: Nickel spacer

    C: washer profiled w/ dremel

    D: 5/8 socket

E: barstock, 3/8 thick or so

F: 7/8 bolt by 12" long or so

A thru D bolt together and fit into the chamber and support it during pressing

E,F form a tool to transfer pressure to the chamber jig and push out the barrel.

This is how they work together.

    JigPlacement.jpg

Easy enough once inspiration came. Now to figure out getting it back in.

What kind of foldiing stock do you have?

  8. This is a very simple thing to do "providing you know someone with a lathe!" I did one and pressed it into a milled receiver a few years back when I had owned a lathe. I have another Yugo barrel that I'm going to send to a friend in Ohio to turn down for me to put it into a 23mm trunion. You will have to headspace the barrel and drill it for the barrel pin. The kit I bought the person had tried to thread a trunion and it was off center and wouldn't feed. It bound up on the round so he dumped it on me for $300 and yes I still mad!

I think you may have missed the point.

Rather than threading a trunnion, a person with the right machining skills could machine the receiver stub into a trunnion. Then the lowly kit builder could rivet it to a stamped receiver.

Do you know anyone that has those kind of machining skills?

  9. <br />I think before you buy anything from GB or a dealer from another state you should figure in the cost of shipping AND how much your dealer is going to charge for paperwork. For instance my dealer charges $40. $35 for paperwork and $5 background check. So sometimes what might seem like a good deal ends up costing the same or sometimes more.<br />
    <br /><br /><br />

My FFL charges 10 bucks. That's it. I found him on the Gunbroker list. It allows you to search by zip code. I'm sure you're dealer is a stand up person, but you can find better deals out there.

Shipping is usually listed in the auction.

  10. I retrieved this from the internet wayback machine.

  11. Hi all

These rifles are for the French market, they only need to be modified into semi auto in a way that it is not simpele to replace full auto parts and make them full auto again.

    regards

    assassin

Going from the rear of the receiver there are 3 pins. The first one holds the trigger/sear, the second the hammer, the third the auto sear. Remove anything on the 3rd pin. If you could replace that pin with a rivet and bushing like the center support it would be difficult to convert it back. That may give you the legal requirement for your country (it wouldn't work in the US, unfortunately). You could also trim the tail off of the sear that rides on the same pin as the trigger. I assume you know what I'm referring to since you have 'hands on' experience.

  12. Take off the pistol grip. Remove the rear trigger guard bolt. Put in your receiver block. Use a punch through the trigger guard bolt hole. Remove the block and drill the hole. Obviously you will need a longer bolt to hold your trigger guard.

You could always make a sheet metal plate with the two holes in it to clamp it down from the top as well.

  13. Second, will standard TAPCO AK Trigger/Hammer Axis-Pin Retaining Plate work in the S.308?

No, the rivet heads inside the receiver for the scope side rail are in the way.

Last, what is the best solution for retaining the pins?

I used one of these and it seems to work okay.

I use the the Tapco retaining plate on my 308 Saiga, and the 308 Vepr. There isn't anything interfering with their installation. I use them on both of my Romanian SARs with the side rail without any issues as well.

  14. Need some help here. My friend is converted my Saiga 308 and his. I see that I have the option of either a warsaw or Nato length stock. Can someone tell me what they are? I know the Nato is longer but longer than what? Does anyone know the LOP of either with a converted Saiga 308? Do you have either and what is your opinion? K-Var or Tapco. Is one better than another? Thanks, Dan

Nato stocks are 1.25 inches longer than the Warsaw stocks.

  15. Does it just need to be refinished or it has been physically messed up? I'd keep it personally.

The reciever, barrel trunion and magazine catch have all been modified for the new magazines to fit and the job that was done was very ugly. But functional. The mags are a bit loose in the rifle but they work. I also don't much like the way the forend is attached on the wood stocked rifles, but the rear stock has a good feel to it.

I wonder how much I could sell it for... I wouldn't mind trading it for a nice scope for my other saiga.

    Brother in Arms

How much would you like to get for it?

  16. I have the one made by Williams. It's adjustable for windage and elevation with screws. The elevation screw requires blue loctite because it will move under recoil otherwise.

My shooting has improved with it. I have Tech-Sights peeps on my SKS and 10/22, and I love them. I wish Tech-Sights made something for an AK.

I've never seen the Tech Sights, they're exactly what I've been wanting for my SKSs.

    Tech Sights site

    Thanks

  17. Where have you heard of any Democrat even mentioning a gun ban?
    Are you high?

Pointer, you forgot the big one:

    PELOSI

I guess I wasn't clear enough. They passed a ban in '94, later that year they lost both the house and senate. Kerry ran on reauthorizing in '04, remember what happened to him? I can't remember it coming up even one time in '06, if you can could you provide a link? I know there are the usual suspects but can you actually imagine them coming near that hornets nest with a ten foot pole now? I can't. Even the most 'activist' among them have bigger problems to deal with than something that politically suicidal right now.

Gun-grabber apologists like this guy have been all over the internet downplaying the Democrat threat to our guns. They're keeping their mouths shut for now but they will ban whatever they can whenever they can. They have nearly every time the had the Congress and the Whitehouse.
I currently own over 50 guns, sparky. Apologist huh? Cram it. I think they may finally be getting a clue that banning guns gets them 12 years in the wilderness. Not all of them but far more than there were before. There are those in California and New York, a minority by the way, that will never change. I honestly think there has been a change in the rest of the country that bodes well for us. It would certainly be a welcome change. Remember W's BATF has passed the recent barrel ban and said in '04 he would sign an AWB extension. Like I said, can you remember anyone in this election cycle even mentioning any sort of a ban? It's pure poison and it will get them tossed out again. It's nice to be off the 'radar' politically speaking.
