  1. My kids are the only reason I prepare beyond a couple guns I like and some camping gear left over from my boyscout days. Before I had kids my entire survival strategy was to be a free wheeling guy in my 4x4 with some camping gear and jerry cans and drive it into a nearby 12ft concrete culvert and sandbag the entrances.I figured I could spend my days fishing and camping while the world fell apart and survive via mixture of "catch as catch can" or "whatever is clever". I have to have hope things will sort themselves out and that is why I bother with preps in the first place. The decision to
  2. Tech sights with a 21" barrel would have an obscene sight radius, and would probably provide better accuracy than a scope. Nothing provides better accuracy than a scope. That's a pretty big blanket statement. They're pretty apples and oranges really. Want to put some olympic quality irons up against a walmart BSA? The BSA scope may jump the reticule in in 50-100rds and quit working but for the time that it does work it will outshoot the competition type iron sights at any distance past 100 yards. It is a matter of the eye focusing on 2 planes rather than 1 and the abil
  3. A Saiga rifle already has the right mag release and trigger it seems.
  4. I had an IMI 223 Galil in the late 80s/early 90s it was a rugged and reliable rifle but not really any more accurate than a 223 Saiga and it was a loose twist and wouldn't shoot very well with the newfangled "Green Tip" ammo that was just coming out then so I sold it. I wish I had never sold it because now they make 1 in 7 barrels and a buddy of mine with the same vintage of Galil had one installed and he says it's a real tack driver now where it really wasn't before.I like Galils because of the perceived durability of the milled receiver and the cool factor of having something from the "Mothe

  6. This is the one I am using. http://www.nokick.com/SEI_6_8mm_7_62mm_Muzzle_Brake_5_8x24_p/sei%2068-fslash-762.htm
  7. I was talking with him about it and he said they were using the upper from a semi rifle on an dealer sample M4 lower so it was 1 in 9. I guess the Ruger SR556 is the only CHF 1 in 9 barrel in existence.
  8. M249 bipods aren't that heavy. When you ditch the bipod and factory plastic handguard in lieu of a railed forearm and Gripod, you actually add more weight but add the capability to mount things like an IR aiming laser. But, if you use the short Paratrooper barrel and collapsing stock, it ends up being a very nice assault weapon. Back on subject, don't buy a knock off as aforementioned. I've shot a Minimi and I've shot a SAW with a Grip Pod. The SAW with the Grip Pod felt way lighter even with the rail.
  9. Open carry would require the entire government of Ohio to be put on sedatives

  11. A complete and workable system in a compromise caliber beats a half assed run dry in a week system that will essentially leave you with a very unwieldy club once your meager ammo is spent or left behind because it was too heavy to carry. Like RobRez was saying about his 10,000rds of 22lr(he can fit it in the space of 2000rds of rifle ammo). I keep several 50bmg ammo cans full of CCI 22lr in the 100rd containers stacked vertically in each can and another 6 cans with bulk boxed 22lr ammo. I have no idea how much I have because I keep buying it and even right now I need to get 2 more 50bmg c
  12. Chevyman is right, they are a super cool piece of equipment for somebody who knows the value of going prone while in rapid transition. Don't go cheap, don't buy a fake, get the real thing or it will be guaranteed to break. They make a special super heavy duty grippod for the M249 and mounting it allows you to ditch 2lbs of crappy bipod weight!
  13. It's for people who opt out of walking through the Leukemia Scanner, they get groped instead. Nice thing to know is all of the TSA goons who inconvenience you today will be metastasizing in another 20 years. Do you mean the metal detectors? Cause I only walked throth those. Maybe its just my luck? Those are full body imagers that bombard you with some wild wavelengths at fairly high intensity. They are well known in the medical imaging community for exacerbating cellular abnormalities(like cancer) and the TSA goons work within 2 feet of them all day, every day. No biggie for

  15. I can hit large paint buckets with only a couple of misses rapid fire at 100 yards over and over again. While that presents a 14x12in target and would be horrible for a rifle it's still "Minute of Badguy" and would get the job done at street fighting distances. Until you get the chance to shoot every day for a couple of weeks(under some good instruction) there are a lot of possibilities that won't seem realistic to you at your present level of training. I personally guarantee that if you put 40,000rds downrange in fire an maneuver on multiple steel targets over the course of a year and
  16. Ok, a buddy I haven't talked to in years got in touch with me last night and we started talking guns and he has been running a Ruger SR556 upper on a select fire dealer sample lower and swears and be damned he has beat the crap out of it for since last year and it hasn't missed a lick.
  17. Best to worst list. CSSPECS,"Bombproof" all steel contruction, all weather and environment performance. FBMG/Uinita, polymer good commercial mag but some owner had fit issues. Surefire, they are decent hot weather mags but will crack easily when dropped in cold temps. Promag,a few people have gotten them to work seems like it's a crap shoot but for half the price.
  18. This has been planned out for us by JP Morgan and Friends since 1908 and was made concrete at Jekyll Island in 1910 but they finally pulled the plug on us with the Bear Stearns buyout in 2008(I called the ball in 2007 by the way) and we have been in freefall with concessional updrafts since then. From then until now a jar of my regular premium mayonaise has gone from $2.50 up to $3.89 while the cash sale value of one of my rental properties went from $98,000 to $81,000 despite being in an economically stable area. People are being boiled alive, nobody has the savings to maintain a stea
  19. All of this talk about fighting US Troops and whatnot is a fantasy. The people you will be fighting at first are the same smug, braindead, mofos who naysay you for being a prepper today. They will be hungry, unprepared and belligerent fools and when they figure out that you aren't a skeleton figure pulling a red flyer wagon full of buckets to get stagnant water out of the drainage ditches or digging through dumpsters or throwing rocks at squirrels and rats for food they will turn on you and try to kill you with whatever motley collection of Elmer Fudd rifles and Saturday Night Specials they can
  20. 10,000rds If you can't afford enough rifle ammo then get something 9mm and if you can't afford enough 9mm then get a Ruger 1022. Remember the weapon and magazines are not even 1/4 of the cost of an adequate setup so even if your weapon and mags cost you $1500-$2000 but you save $1000-$4000 in the finally tally for 10,000rds of ammo you will be better off.
  21. The SEI Brake(is now called the "Good Iron") is the best military rifle compensator made, period. It will make a lightweight 308 rifle kick like a heavy 7.62x39 rifle. It will make a 7.62x39 full auto AK rock steady. Here is one on the least controllable full auto 308 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaDdq26gWOA Any questions?
  22. I think a lot of this question depends on what you call "modernized".To some people adding a bunch of stuff to a regular AK is modernization but to me "Modernization" means fundamental changes in layout, construction methods and increases in performance. Look at the pic of the CZ2000 see where parts like the rear trunnion/folding stock hinge and folding stock is combined to make lighter more elegant structures? See the way rear part of the receiver is brought back to parallel with the bore axis? The extra weight trimmed off of assemblies like the FS/GB and even the "Krink" type top cover hi

  24. That's what they do in those countries. they make broad sweeping laws and bury whole professions and ways of life in the name of Authoritarian Social Engineering. I hope they don't mess with ICE, he is a nice guy
