  1. I had that entirely too many times when I went to the summer program at the University of Strasbourg. It may have been nasty because it was cafeteria food, but I have no intention of willingly eating it in the future. bleh.
  2. There is a thread on ar15.com where a company has tooled (or is tooling up) to make them. Here it is Thread on ar15.com about US AK barrels
  3. Are you talking about a fake suppressor which is bored through just large enough t othread on the barrel, or one that is hollow? It was my understanding the the solid aluminum ones w/ a hole bored through are legal w/o issues, but the other ones can get you in trouble. Am I misunderstanding something here?
  4. I'm not on the list but I have a Saiga 12 sitting here waiting for a conversion to a 12" SBS. There's no reason to run out of work.
  5. Be careful what you wish for. Demand could stay high, but if they can't import them there might not be any to convert. I could see Obama cutting off all AK imports with an executive order.
  6. That sounds like a slippery slope. Wouldn't simply keeping a shotgun and a hacksaw under the same roof constitute intent to manufacture? So if I sell the bolt to my friend in the shop for a dollar then do the barrel work, attach the break, pin/weld it on then buy the bolt back I'm good to go right? During that time I never own a "Combination of parts from witch an SBS cab be assembled." I don't claim to be an expert on this subject, but the only way I can see for a non SOT to do this would be to remove the barrel from the shotgun, and then give the receiver (& any other
  7. I wouldn't like ones w/o the buffer tube. I don't care how they look. I care how they shoot. If you get rid of the receiver extension, you get rid of a lot of the reason for an AR15 pistol IMO. I can shoot an AR15 pistol as well as a rifle for CQB uses. It's just more uncomfortable & can't have a stock or pistol grip. An 11.5" pistol makes a great travelling companion.
  8. :lolol: :lolol: Funny but true, very true! The bubba answer I've seen on AR15.com is to fix it w/ JBWeld, then duracoat the whole receiver. Nobody should be able to tell you broke/fixed it. You have wanted to paint an AR haven't you!?!
  9. JB weld it to look good. The trigger guard ears aren't really that important for strength or function. Any triggerguard will stay put with the pin on only one ear, but if you want to be sure, get the Magpul MIAD grip full kit. It includes the front stap with the built-in trigger guard. I am actually using one on an S308 build right now! Yeah! I'll try that and if it doesnt work the way I'd like to to look then I'll just take a freak'n band saw to the bastard!! The MIAD would look REALLY NICE on the SBR though.....Hmmmmmm? Don't take a bandsaw to it. Either give it to some
  10. I had to get in the gun safe for another reason today so I decided to take a family picture. btw, one of them isn't a pistol. There's a SBR in the picture too.
  11. Lol, that's cruel. I couldn't stand the temptation. "here, you can own the toy of your dreams but oh, don't use it" I could stand it. I work for a C3 dealer/range. If I could buy cheap, functional machineguns, I would make sure they were checked out by a gunsmith on a regular basis.
  12. I think I'd want to be a gunsmith then. What's it take to legally be a gunsmith so you can shoot your full auto toys?
  13. Can you not shoot them at all, or not shoot them in the auto setting? Of course, if you can own them and can own suppressors there might be a way around the problem... What's the penalty if you legally own one & get caught shooting it?
  14. It's easy enough to follow the law in this regard. I make sure it's of legal length, or make sure I have the proper paperwork *before* I make it into a NFA weapon. The odds of getting caught for it are fairly low. If you get caught, the odds of them doing anything about it beyond confiscating the weapon may be low depending on your location. The consequences if you get caught, prosecuted, and convicted is severe. I have absolutely *NO* desire to be a felon, so I try to be informed & avoid even the appearance of impropriety. I don't care if other people do it. I won't inform on some
  15. I think they will go after the ammo if they effectively lose the war on banning guns. They can slip in taxes on the ammo, get inexpensive lead ammo banned for "environmental" reasons, and work on closing ranges. If people can't afford the gas to go to the range, can't afford the ammo to shoot, and can't find anyplace to shoot if they could afford it, gun ownership would go down in time. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to ban target practice at any location which isn't an official range w/ backstops that meet offical specs, insurance, and other government requirements. That would ha
  16. Don't be so confident there Acer. Why just the other night I woke up at about 2 AM and noticed my x39 had managed to slip out of the gun safe. Luckily I woke up and was able to subdue it before it got to the closet where my mags are stored. It was a struggle but I was finally able to overpower the thing and get it locked back up. Lord knows what it would have done to me and my wife if I hadn't woke up and it had managed to get a hold of a fully loaded mag. I haven't been able to sleep since then. ya know what? i noticed my X39 saiga humping my .357 mag the other night, it wa
  17. How about some groups? I don't think they're bad for no magnification in a dim indoor range.
  18. If you want to get into the MG game as inexpensively as possible, you might consider a MAC & a Lage slow fire upper. That's supposed to be a killer combo. I've heard it can beat a MP5 in subgun matches. http://www.max-11.com/productsnew.html
  19. It's theoretically possible to reweld a damaged receiver, but it would depend on who much it was damaged & where. If the SN area is destroyed it's probably toast. Beyond that I've seen pictures of miracles which have been performed. I think I would probably get a RR if I bought a M16 with a steel RDIAS as my second choice. A RLL would have to be an absolutely killer price for me to buy one, especially since they won't run w/ any of the 22 conversions I know of, and they won't run a Shrike IIRC. Any full auto you buy will have been manufactured on or before May of 1986. There are n
  20. You can put essentially any upper on a registered receiver. You are supposed to notify BATFE if you make a "permanent change" to the NFA weapon, but I've been told by knowledgeable people that as long as you own at least one upper which matches the registered config you're cool. If you do make a change, it's a simple matter of writing a letter & notifying them the caliber/bbl length/oal has changed w/ the new data. If you want a full auto AR15/M16 you essentially have 3 options 1) RR Registered receiver 2) RDIAS Registered Drop In Auto Sear 3) RLL Registered Lightning Link A
  21. That would be cool. If I had the cash I'd grab that in a heartbeat.
  22. I know it's personal choice, but I cannot see any situation where I as a civilian would find less than lethal ammo out of a shotgun to be a good idea. If you use it you have to explain to the cops/judge/jury why you were justified in shooting a firearm at them. You apparently thought it was necessary to shoot, but you weren't sufficiently concerned to use normal defensive ammo. That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. My defensive shotgun is loaded w/ 00 Buck & has Slugs on the side if I should need one. I won't shoot to kill. I'll shoot to stop. I just want the threat to sto
  23. Most of my range time recently has been practice. I can get as good, or possibly better, practice w/ my 22 stuff as the centerfire. The 22s encourage good habits since they have less recoil & muzzle blast. It's still trigger time w/ the same systems I am liable to use if I need one, but I will admit they aren't *quite* as much fun as the centerfire stuff. I've got ammo put back, but with the way the cost of living has gone up, and the cost of replacing it has gone through the roof I can't justify shooting 200 or 300 rounds in a range session. I can put more than that through the 22s a
  24. I'm probably running 95%+ 22 right now. Part of that's I scored 3500 rounds of it free a while back. Mostly it's just the centerfire stuff costs too much to either buy, or I have to replace from my stash. I end up shooting rimfire mostly, and then shoot some centerfire at the end of a session sometimes. They all work the same so my rimfire stuff is good practice.
