  1. what stock did you get? I am looking for something a bit different than the stock... um... stock offering for my 7.62. This one: http://www.saigastock.com/index.php?main_p...products_id=176
  2. I think this topic was discussed recently but I can't find the thread. I already have the tapco stock that doesn't require moving the trigger group. I'm thinking of converting to use AK mags, and want to know if I can put the Tapco G2 trigger group in the rifle without moving it forward. Any good writeups on this? thx -c
  3. I love the rifle and want to keep it. I ordered a case of golden tiger today, and two 30 round standard AK mags. I ordered a bullet guide from Danzig last week. I'll let you know if any of this helps. FYI - I do not have a buffer installed unless it came from the factory with one. What is a buffer? thx-c
  4. I've had it for a month or so now. I've been to the range three different times and shot around 400 rounds (all wolf HP). I have multiple failures every time out (generally a couple FTFs, and a couple where the ejected case is stuck facing backwards). I'm using a mixture of Surefire 30 rnd mags, and Master Molder mags. (never a failure with the stock mag) I'm trying to decide between converting it (bullet guide, std AK mags, and then the minimum parts to be compliant - already have US made stock - not really wanting to move the trigger group as my stock is the tapco that's made for the
  5. I can not speak for other states but in Colorado a .243 is the lowest diameter bullet that Elk can be hunted with. With that said some hunt with the .243, but the vast majority go with larger rounds (larger as in both diameter of bullet and in case capacity. The .308 is of the same case capacity as the .243). When hunting these large animals with these "smaller" rounds hunters typically go with heavier weight bullets and in weapons that have better accuracy, and wait for closer shots, and only take a broad side shot. So from your questions I am taking it that your concern is that at 16" loos
  6. I've been searching, and it seems that the consensus is that the 16" .308 loses a couple hundred fps compared to a 22" .308. Would this still be adequate for Elk out to 200 yards? thx-Chris
  7. If I install a bullet guide, will my stock mag and my Surefire mags still work? How about Master Molder mags? If not, can the mags be 'modified' to work with the bullet guide?
  8. I may have misused the term double feed. It ejected the spent casing fine, but it's like it tried to strip two rounds at the same time. I had two rounds that were both trying to go into the chamber. As for the mags - I thought it was just the master molder mags causing probs too, but I had a failure with my second surefire mag as well. I'll get it cleaned up, get all my mags marked, and try it again here in the next week or so and take my camera.
  9. I had my Saiga out for the first time today and had some problems. I sold an AR a while back to migrate to the 'reliable' AK platform and now I'm having my doubts. Anyway - following are my experiences. Any advice would be greatly appreciated: 1) Received gun and gave it a good cleaning. I used CLP, and wiped everything down after cleaning. 2) Installed the Tapco stock/pistol grip that doesn't require any other modifications, and received two surefire magazines and two master molder magazines. 3) Purchased 500 rounds of Wolf HP 4) Went shooting this morning:
  10. Agreed. I searched and searched looking for USA made replacement stocks and handguards (non-pistol grip), and couldn't find any. I actually prefer the 'sporting' stock to the pistol grip.
  11. The Tapco Modified stock from Saigastock.com will run you $99. Master Molder mags are about 1/3 the price of the Surefires (I paid $11.99 for mine from cdnn), and they work just as well, all you have to do with them is file a few millimeters off of the tang on the back of the mag and they lock right in. You can be 922r compliant with no gunsmithing for about $120, including shipping. [ Do you have to do anything else to get the master molder mags to work? Do you have to do the feed ramp mod? I would like to pick up some, but don't want to do something that would render my surefire ma
  12. Excuse my ignorance, but assuming I change out the gas piston or disconnector - how is anyone going to know this? Are they stamped 'made in usa' on them? Easily identifiable?
  13. Saiga Newbie here - After months of deliberating - I just picked up a Saiga in 7.62x39 and a couple of Surefire Magazines. It's my understanding that the mags count as three US parts, and that I need to do one more US part in order to be in compliance. What is the single cheapest/easiest mod to make to satisfy this requirement? Thanks!
