  1. I love using my saiga-12 to hunt deer. My father in law has a saiga-20 with him. My brother-in-law had the luck this year, 10 min. in the stand and he was debating going this year.
  2. Thanx for the heads up. I've had more than my share of stuff like than. I always know there's a problem when the wife starts the conversation with "I found this free scan."
  3. I have a adapter which attaches to the tang and has the thread to screw an AR tube into it.
  4. I'd like to see a reality show along the lines of a "build-off" show. Two gunsmiths are given the same gun with a week to see how awsome they could make it. Then a vote on who's is better.
  5. That is a great buck you got there. what did you take it with? We have to use slugs, blackpowder, or a pistol. I don't mind though, I love taking the ol' s-12 out with me.
  6. I just wanted to post some pics of my good fortune this year. I got a nine pointer at 60 yards with a lung shot.
  7. I have owned a saiga 223 for quite a few years now. I had left it stock for about five years with no complaints. Then I bought a S-12, and I took that out and shot it stock. I was amazed at the difference the conversion made in the overall balance and "feel" in the weapon. Needless to say I converted my 223 shortly thereafter and never looked back. I my honest opinion, the conversion truly transforms the rife. The amount of weight that is placed on your support hand is greatly reduced. The rifle has a much better balance. With the improvement in balance, the rifle comes up to my shoulder and
  8. I have a mossy 500 slug gun that is now gathering dust since my saiga goes whitetail hunting with me on the first weekend in December.
  9. sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers for you and your family.
  10. Is this it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hcuVyTcITQ I suppose with a little gap at the front and back of the Ultimak, it would help the barrel float a bit more, though the piston would still be in contact with the gas block. It's not the one I was thinking of, but it is very similar. I thought that reducing the possible pressures of the differences in thermal properities along with a method of eliminating the contact of the handguard with the barrel would yield possible improvements. The approach I want to explore would retain the "normal" look of an ak as much as possible.
  11. I own both and can say without a doubt that I enjoy shooting my converted S-12 over my mossy hands down. The weapon is a blast to shoot. I also belive that cobra customs does bolt work to increase relibality. That being said, there is also a wealth of info here on spotting and fixing potential problems.
  12. I remember somewhere there was a video of an ak with a gap between the barrel and the gas tube as a proof of the ruggedness of the firearm. I was thinking of possible ways to "hang" the handguards and gas system on the reciever with proper clearancing and a seal for the gas tube to the barrel. I'm gonna need a lot of research though.
  13. how about this .308? http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=28671&st=0&p=255544&hl=floated&fromsearch=1entry255544 or this .223? http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=21835&st=0&p=189744&hl=floating&fromsearch=1entry189744 it can be done, I have had a more conventional idea bugging me but haven't had the time to truly play for awhile.
  14. I put pics up in another thread. I haven't tried to size the threads yet.
  15. Pick the spring leg up above the reciever and bend it out. I had the same problem on my .223 and that fixed it.
  16. Make sure to check your state's regulations. Some only allow 20 guage or larger. I use a s-12 for my slug gun.
  17. First, about jobs. Cap and trade will kill a lot more jobs than the gun industry. Second, BO's playbook says to "pull the rudder to gain control of the boat" or make things bad enough to force the people to give up liberty for safety. They are setting the stage for an epic power grab. The NRA has reports of BATF knocking on doors of gun owners in border states already. As far as the AWB, it's one of the party planks. They are waiting for another tragic shooting to take advantage of.
  18. Welcome aboard. IMO, the easiest add on is a muzzle attachment. The vendors here have a bunch of different options. Again, welcome to what you may find to be an addiction. Don't worry, we are here to help.

    Stock Options

The ace is metal. The tapco is composite. A little extra with a 12 guage dosen't hurt. I haven't heard a lot of negatives with the tapco but the saying goes you get what you pay for.
  20. I guess my real question would be, is that is there any reasonable way to reduce the effect of the gas tube on the barrel? I have poked around and not found a lot of info. I would think that free floating the hand guard and reducing the effects of the gas tube might really help.
