  1. I know it is done right and I like to support local business' ...............

It is easy for anyone to "do right". Like I said, some people cannot afford (or do not choose to) support local business... this thread is made for those people. For some people, the extra $30+ in parts and $50+ labor may be the reason they cannot do the conversion. To each his own...

Everything is a tradeoff, time.. cost.. quality.. ect.. this is for a cheap basic conversion that works.. not the top of the line spotness pro-job.

    Thanks for your input.

Really good post. Dosen't the stock pin spring sit on one of the rivets for the factory trigger assembly? Did you have to modify it?

  2. First post here guys.

I reciently bought a group of rifles and this one was in it

    http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f197/Gar...mview=slideshow

Its a Russian Saiga, 223, also reads EEA Corp Cocoa, Fl

I know nothing about this rifle, can anyone enlighten me? From searching around I havent seen another one with a stock like this. Has it been added?

Are there any distributors selling these rifles today?

    Mnay thanks guys

Welcome to the forum. That is a fairly common stock. EEA used to import these rifles. RAA is now importing them. If you get on the RAA website, there should be pics of that stock on an imported rifle. The search button on the upper right part of the page will really help you find a lot of info quickly here.

  3. I have a CCW in IA. While I don't carry as much as I would like to, I still belive that having it is a necessary step to protect my right to carry. If I don't renew it, I would have some #"+* leo try to tell me I don't really "need" it. (Yes, I have had that conversation before!!!) I helped vote him out. Bottom line is, if you don't use your right to get a CCW, eventually somebody WILL try to take that right from you.

  4. First, welcome to the forum. You only need a bullet guide if using non-siga magazines. If you buy a 30 round surefire for a saiga, for example, no bullet guide needed. As far as information goes, the forun is a wealth of knowledge. The search button in the upper right corner of the page can get you to it.

  5. I am a new (make that "brand new") owner of a Saiga 12. I am very interested in a proper convervsion, but I'm a little daunted by the idea of cutting up my new receiver. I've already read some of the tutorials available on the web, but I still have some questions that I haven't been able to find answers to yet. I'm fairly handy with tools, but have never had any real "gunsmith" experience.

I was looking at using the Tromix DIY Trigger Guard to avoid having to cut any holes in the receiver. I have a few questions and hoped that maybe someone here would impart some knowledge.

If any questions in here have previously been asked then I apologize in advance....

    1. IF I use the Tromix DIY Trigger Guard will I have to cut ANY holes?

    2. Assuming NO holes need to be cut, would it be possible to convert back to "Sporter" config if I ever wanted / needed too?

    3. I have seen "Receiver Back-Plates" for sale for certain stocks. Are they necessary for ALL aftermarket stocks (besides tapco fake conversion)?

    4. What happens to the factory Bolt Hold-Open? There is currently a little slot where the lever sticks out. Do I lose that option?

    5. Does anyone (besides Tapco) make an M4 style collapsible stock that mounts in the proper AK fashion? The "stock" stock is a tad long LOP for me and feels like a reach.....

Thank you for all your input on my questions!

    1. I did not have to.

    2. Yes, but avoid that if you can IMO.

    3. Not needed on all stocks.

    4. You can keep it if you chose.

    5. You can purchase an adapter for the AR buffer tube to an AK.

    I hope this helps.

  6. Quoting Sonny P at Warriortalk

"In short: This was nothing more than entertainment and business... That's the way TV works.

The one finger salute was meant for the director. In editing they made it look if I'm flipping off GB's...

GB's brought their own weapons. We were not allowed. Initially they promised AN94, VS99, Giurza pistol... Naaawww.

SVD was very poor quality romanian POS. Max was not given opportunity to zero it in before filming. The M24 was one of GB's personal rifle- zeroed, tuned, etc.

Saiga was without pistol grip and NO sights.

Makarov it wasn't... Some unnamed copy...

    Gen 1 NVG's...

Much footage and discussions didn't make the cut.

GB's were nice enough guys. Little "big mouthed" (especially initially), but nice and friendly.

Director was constantly egging us on to talk smack. Non stop.

Off to LA to film aftermath and meet with some folks about future projects...

    Thanks all..."

    IN short:

They tipped the scales towards the GB and the Speznaz still came out on top.

Of course they did, what drama would there be if the russians held all the cards. I am kind off suprised they didn't compare a claymore to the grenade. I'm sure that they ran the computer simulation before and they reduced the weapons available until it was close. BTW, was anyone else impressed by the karate black belt unloading on the guy. He just shrugged it off.

  7. I was hoping for someone to anwser "I could make those for X dollars" thus, starting the discussion of weather or not there was sufficent demand for the product at that price. The same for the take down mod. I realize that I have pooled the accomplishments of several different people, I am just trying to get a feel for 1. How much a swap system would cost and 2. Would enough people be willing to pay that cost to make it a viable product. There have been a couple of products that are not being made anymore due to a lack of demand.

  8. Ok, here we go. Replacement barrels are in the works, a pull pin barrel release has been done. It seems that the only thing preventing a interchangeable barrel system is the gas system. I figure that the tube would be a secondary consideration with the front gas block being the primary. Does anyone have a possible price point for the production of the front gas block? How about installing a means of quickly removing the barrel? The second part of this question is would anyone want a swap barrel saiga at that price? I have seen a few posts which helped generate new products, I thought this might at least start a discussion.

  9. Bob,

I am sorry you have come to feel this way. In my opinion, the forces at work are twofold. One, gun owners in general have entered into a period of fear and uncertianity, these emoitions are really strong for the lovers of saigas and other "black rifles.". The party who is in power were elected stating that they will enact legislation to change some of the things we hold dear. This forum seems to be made up of a bunch of "self-reliant" people. As such, a lot of these same people feel the need to "do something," while I personaly am waiting for the right moment to light the congressional switch board up like a christmas tree, others are engaing in discussions on this board. The second contributor to this situation is the absolutely wonderfull job the business members are doing here. I mean, if some one wants almost anything, it is in here. Tromix and Dinzag have made converting my 2 saigas a lot easier than it might have been. Tromix has partnered with several first class people to sell their products. Mike D has his drums. Cobra has a little bit of everything. Heck, vankiller has a thread saying that he'll do almost anything if the money is green enough. Couple that with a relative lack of "new" stuff compared to last year, and the fact that on more than one occasion a post has been started with "I wish I could get a " and is soon followed by "I can make it, price to follow shortly" has really changed the dynamic of this forum. Ah, true capitalism at work. I guess all I'm trying to say is "idle hands are the devil's playground.". Ok, I have tried to give my opinion, I hope I have made some sense. I really respect you and your contributions to this forum, as such I respecfully ask you if I am part of the "prombem" that you have observed. If so, I will cease.

  10. I can't stand the interviews that are Fox news, but the news they report on is as fair and unbiased as I've ever seen. And I've said that here a million times.

Really... i brought this up in another post, what is it with reporters blatently attacking people(not physicly mind you)

    You mean like this?

I'll take Fox's interviews over CNN's any day.

Well yes i mean exacly like that. That is the video from the other post i said this in. By no means way my comment directed at ONE news station.

Ok, point taken. As far as the interviewing trends goes, news is copycat driven. Fox pulls no punches, gets really good ratings. CNN follows suit thinking the news is like a race these days, people are looking for the "crash."

  12. The effective maximum range for deer is usually more to do with your accuracy than other factors. I have a mossy with a rifled barrel that I would say I could take a deer out to 150 yards like clockwork. I hunted with my S-12 this year and I have decided for myself that 100 yards is a nice comfortable distance. The round will have plenty of power available, I just feel that the trajectory starts droping alot much past this distance. This is a very subjective mater, your stance, if you have sticks or a rest, if you can bring the weapon up the same every time, is the trarget moving. 5" groups at 100 yards sounds pretty darn good for a smoothbore. A deer's vitals are usually 10 14" inches possibly more depending on who you ask. I just feel that for me, if I go much past 100 yards the chance of wounding rather than dispatching the animal goes up to much. If I could put alot of range time in, I would probably be more apt to take a longer shot.

  13. I would suggest to the media reporting this ridiculous crap that they set up one of their "sting" reports, and go set up a buy of some of these machines guns and grenades, since they're so readily available...................

Don't even trust them to do that. All these pricks think like Mikey Moore. Remember in "bowling for columbine" he actually had a gun bought and then passed it off as given to him for opening a checking account with no background checks. They have shown that the truth and reason will in no means hinder progress to the "greater good." The news media today has it easy. Repeat something enough it gains a degree of creditability. This was driven home when the repub congress got trashed for "slashing spending" even though they were increasing spending.
