  1. That would set it apart from anyone's collection! I have no idea what it would involve, but, DO IT, MAN! Post haste! What about a copper-tone case coloring?! That would be amazing. This AR looks foolish w/ the short forend, but just an idea. (I'm very good at spending other people's money.) (Turnbull Mfg.) Don't know what you were considering to finish in brass? Would certainly be necessary for a proper steampunk design, but IMHO, it becomes a display piece at some point. More time polishing than shooting. Top marks on the execution, sir.

  4. I'm pretty sure Cobra can give some guidance here. I thought about doing the same thing a few years back. The trick is dealing with mounting a flat rail on a tapered forend, obviously. Search on his page in the main page. Long-time member of the forum (since S12s were in the $200 range, I suspect). His work is professional, and he's done a bunch. Even if you don't send him the work, he's a great guy and will point you in the right direction. Also does good-looking and functional venting work on forends.
  5. Those are nice. The trit front on the XS is dimmer than I expected, too. I'd love to be able to have a bunch of them side-by-side to compare. It's hard to tell sizes from pics, but the Troy version is a ring of trit, whereas the XS is a dot. Below are 2 pics I lifted from Troy (M4 & HK). Can't imagine they use 2 different size rings, but they have less trit than the XS, which would definitely make it dimmer. I can say on my setup, the added white ring on the XS really does improve target acquisition until it's dark enough for the trit to be useful. Troy makes a pretty rugged
  6. It took almost a year, but I finally had the opportunity to buy an XS Big Dot front sight for my Krebs mount. Krebs uses AR front posts, so it was easier and less expensive to replace than an AK assembly. I couldn't decide between the Tritium Stripe, Big or Std Dots. It's personal preference, ultimately. If mine were a dedicated slug gun, the Stripe would have made the most sense. It's not, so I went with the Big Dot. The tritium is the same size as in the Std Dot. The difference is the white circle around it, which XS suggests "is easier for your eye to pick up. Easier to see when your
  7. If there is a drop-in replacement, I wasn't able to find one in several years. I think the one you cited is either for a wood stock or the folding version with the button on the plate. I think it's the latter. The hole in the middle is to access the cleaning kit or the button, respectively. The specific application wasn't listed on all the sites, so be careful. The UTG slip-on is really meant for a specific skeleton stock that you can feed the strap thru. It's too damned big, regardless. My crappy recollection is that it was originally to tame recoil from rifle grenades, but I could
  8. Don't know if it'd fit w/ your big ol can up front, but a krebs front sight uses an AR post, which you can replace with a night sight like the XS Big or Small sight. That and a good light on the forend makes a formidable HD gun. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/71873-any-ideas-on-night-sights/ I have a stock Krebs ghost ring in back, which is quick and painless. Having needed my S12 at night, I immediately knew I'd upgrade that to a 2-dot night ring, too, to get faster sight alignment. HK sights are clearly the best looking, but they're not shotgun sights. They're rifle si
  9. Damn, ultra! Where were you 2 months ago? I just put one on mine from CSS, and am happy with it after a few hundred rounds. Upgraded from a regular NATO-length stock with a less-than-comfortable metal butt plate. Not much fun after a few 00's or slugs, and no one makes a drop-in recoil pad for those, for some reason. Anyway, as for the Phoenix- Pros: 1) Absolutely delivers on advertised recoil reduction. 2) Cheap money to get a decent adjustable stock. If these are your primary goals, you won't be sorry. Cons: 1) Real tight fit into my receiver, which could be partic
  10. I've been using Birchwood Casey GunScrubber, the Synthetic Safe version, for 5+ years. It cuts through everything. I stress the synthetic safe version, b/c their regular product will eat cheaper plastics. It will look like it strips the finish off the outside, but it's just a little residue. A little light oil, which you're gonna do anyway, and it disappears. I've also used Formula 3 with pretty good results. Not the best for heavy-duty crud. It's great for regular cleaning and can be used as an oil. The first time I used it was the last time I used Hoppe's. Too bad, though. Th
  11. Thanks, all. Won't worry until 3 months or so. Seems to be the average. I shoulda planned better. Now I have to use one of my "lesser" shottys to fill the void left in my soul. Now I know why so many of you have 2 ..... or 10 ...... other S12s. I now apologize for ever shaking my head like you had a problem. Apparently, you had the solution all along. Mea culpa.
  12. 13 weeks?! I'll stop whining, then. Only waiting 6 weeks - so far - for my glassbolt. No response on PM or email. I just wanted to confirm it was received and in the pile to be done. Is he all by himself? No office help?
  13. Here's another thread I hope might help: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/71873-any-ideas-on-night-sights/page__fromsearch__1 Night sights are a great addition, but a good light is key to identifying your target "first." Otherwise, you're pulling the trigger on a silhouette that could be a family member going bump in the night. Don't mean to offend if I'm assuming you haven't thought of this. Many people haven't. Anyways, you might need to rethink your forend choice a little to have the ability to mount a light. Don't know if the one you showed can do that. Even a
  14. Thanks for posting. Saw that on the gallery page. Is that just glow in the dark paint from the factory, or is it something more practical, like tritium? Don't think it's the latter. Can you say a little more about it, if you know? BTW, you have some great weapons on your gallery. Didn't know they had a 9mm version of the Krink. Nice stuff.
  15. Thanks for that resource. Good, especially for people new to the S12, and for people who just think they know everything. That format would be helpful, and was exactly what I had in mind when I started following this thread. Is there a verdict from the mods to put this in its own section? I echo that it's potentially big enough to parcel out. I suspect that they're waiting to see if interest and participation fizzles, kinda like the gear review section, for which I couldn't blame them. I know there's already stuff spattered around the forum that would be a good fit for this. Doe
