  1. Any duracoat on the inside of the receiver? Like the rails for example? You say it doesn't ride smooth, and if its not an extractor problem I would try greasing the rails and trying again. Use any regular grease for now, but I keep mine greased all the time with good synthetic grease. Try hand-cycling it with shells, and see if it will pull out shells that way as well.

It does hand cycle shells if I go slowly. It does not have duracoat on the rails, and the gun was well lubed.

What happens if you cycle it as fast as you can?

  3. I would have to agree with the frozen condensation being the most likely culprit, if you are taking it from 70 degrees or so, down to 20 below. Condensation will form FAST and freeze FAST, and once its frozen in there gonna put the brakes on operation. Maybe some de-icer in there might help? Most needed fact is if you are taking it out of your warm house or truck or if they are already at the -20 mark when you shoot.

  4. I dunno....mine ran good for a long time after the conversion, and eventually started banging the bolt-carrier into the rear trunnion, dunno if this is due to the spring wearing out or what, but I eventually bought a v-plug to cut the gas a bit. I think the weapons DO break in, otherwise why would I have slick spots on all the parts that contact each other?

  5. I'm pretty partial to the romanian/east german folding stocks. I have one of each, they are pretty much identical except for the folding mechanism. One is a lever, one a button. They both work equally well. Rock-solid too. I wrapped some paracord on mine to make the cheek weld a little more comfy.

Nice looking gun, and good choice of magazines. And is that an AMD 65 pistol grip or something else?

I agree that the Romanian wire folders are a great no-hassle choice. Were you able to get the East German folders to work as well? I tried a Tantal stock once, but it did not really work with the Saiga trunnion; the lever had no tension. I assumed that the East German stocks were the same way, since the design of the mechanism is similar.

Yea, but actually had to grind some metal for it to be able to lock in the closed position. Other than that it was fine, locks up great now and is rock-solid. Oh, forgot about the grip....while it looks cool IMO, the plastic it is made of doesn't allow you to tighten it to the pistol-grip nut very tight without destroying the innards. I honestly forgot where I got it, but it is an aftermarket part, and certainly not mil-spec. Looks cool yes, plastic is weak though. Not recommended.

  6. Damn! My first AK was going to be a SAR-1.....but when I got back to the table at the gun show they were all gone.....I had to settle for a WASR at the same price. All is well that ends well I guess, its a good solid gun, just a hair of mag wobble and she shoots straight! Reliable as hell to boot! Beggars can't be choosers :)

  7. I just did not like it! I really can't say why...I use the irons on my 12. For some reason, I prefer a standard warsaw length stock and the pussy-pad applied to that to give length. I am not recoil sensitive, nor did it bruise me. I love it on my 7.62x39 WASR and .223 saiga....I really don't know why I hated it so much on the 12. Just didn't fit me right. Its my favorite folding stock out there, but not on my shotty. I own 2, one romanian and one east german. They seem pretty identical except for the folding mechanism, one is a lever, the other a button. Either way, I like them both. Just not on my shotgun.

reason for edit - the pussy-pad won't allow the folder to fold completely and lock, so I would avoid that option if you want it to fold. You could modify the locking mechanism (fairly easy) but I do not know if the gun would cycle correctly or the buttpad would be in the way of the charging handle.

  8. Why do you buy good beer when the cheap stuff will do the job. Why would anyone buy $2,000 dollar watch when a much cheaper one will keep just as good time. Why would anyone marry a beautiful woman when an ugly one........OK, never mind that one. The point is, can your life ever depend on having a better beer or a fancier watch? Some things are worth spending as much as you can possibly afford to have the best. Here are some more: ......Parachutes, Condoms, Brake pads, Smoke Alarms, Brain Surgeons, Women, Lawyers.

All of that sounds VERY expensive. I usually save money on brake pads and smoke alarms, the cheap ones seem to do the job just fine. Course.....I am driving an '83 chevy truck at the moment. As for women...well...they all look the same in the dark :).

  9. Floyd9.....how's that bipod? Yea/Nay...who makes it? etc.

Just a standard barrel-clamp bipod, you can find them at gun shows all the time, not sure who makes them. I didn't much care for that setup so I modified mine to mount onto the receiver, although I havn't figured out a workaround to get a handgaurd on there with the bipod :). It looks like this at the moment -

  10. Yea mine does too, consider yourself lucky if you're a reloader. I would go about trying to fix it....but I just love the extremely positive ejection! Most of my brass is still reloadable, so I don't find it to be a big problem, but every 10 or so shots, one gets nailed hard.
