  1. "Oh man, we got an introvert here....." hey now, I resemble that remark! thanks for the dimension info
  2. Thanks for the responses on the muzzle brake option, looks like a good way to go if I can figure out the best way to get the barrel threaded. As to the receiver on the PSL, yes, it is an RPK style, and has reinforcement plates at the butt. With a rivet or cross bolt through both the receiver and the reinforcement plates, the recoil energy would be transmitted into two sections of metal on each side, rather than only the one piece of metal in a regular AK receiver that is not reinforced in this manner. If the connection between the plate and receiver is good, this would roughly half the rec
  3. Although I don't have my .308 yet, still in the process. I am thinking about trying a spare Romanian AK stock on it. This is the type that has the spring loaded recoil plate on it, similar to what is used on the PSL. Maybe use a very dark stain color on the wood.
  4. Having been the very pleased owner of a Saiga .223 in the past, I am on a path to obtain a Saiga .308, with visions of conversions, hi-cap mags, decent optics, and possibly muzzle brake or flash hider. Before going too gung ho on the .308 version, I must admit to some lingering worries. The Romanian PSL in 7.62x54 is built on an RPK receiver and has reinforcement plates and cross-bolts in the receiver at the butt stock end. If the Romanians felt it necessary to beef up their PSLs that much, how can the Saiga hold up very long to a similar pounding from the 7.62x51 or .308 Winchester cartridge?
  5. The favored tactical shotgun load in many circles is now the #1 buck, no longer 00. Since a Saiga 20 can deliver #2 buck in factory cartridges, just one shot size away from the optimum, you have a tool that is very nearly as effective as the trusty 12, yet a lot easier to handle with quick follow-up shots due to the reduced recoil. For defending the home, I am quite confident with the S-20, it is hard to think of a better choice.
  6. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one, hope it happens though!
  7. I believe the S-20 is under-appreciated. Law enforcement has been locked into 12 for so long, they have blinders on. With many current recommendations for #1 buck as the better choice compared to 00 buck, the 20 with #2 buck is real close to the optimum, and is much more controllable for rapid follow-up shots.
  8. Whether Saiga or another shotgun, the 20 is simply under-appreciated. Since the law enforcement and military community have focused on 12, that is what people want, that is what they think they need, and that is what is supported by ammunition manufacturers and others. We know the 20 has its niche, and those of us who have discovered it have a lot more enjoyment than those who subject themselves to the shoulder pounding of a 12. I just hope we can find 20 buckshot in the future, it is getting harder for me to find.
  9. Wow! Nice 20! Seems to me the 20 gauge has been overlooked by most as to it's potential. Some say #1 buck can be superior to 00. Since the 20 gauge can be loaded with #2 buck, it is as close to the optimum size of pellet as 00. If the #2 pellets were plated for better penetration without deformation, it seems to me the 20 guage could provide for a very optimal combination of terminal ballistics and manageable recoil for quick recovery at close range. A 12 gauge is great, but a 20 is far sweeter to shoot.
  10. I have read the clear do not have the same type of metal reinforcement, this may or may not be a concern. Just in case anyone else is seeking 30 round Bulgarian waffle mags, I happen to have a few used mags to spare, green or black. Mags that were available a couple of weeks ago are now spoken for, thanks for the interest.
  11. Of the choices you mentioned, I would go with the Mini-14. Get some 5.56 ammo loaded to military pressures , it has a somewhat more effective range than regular .223 Rem, and the Mini is made to run on this stuff. Although the cartridge leaves a lot to be desired at distances beyond 100 yards, it is devastating within that zone, there are very good reasons why our military still uses this cartridge. The Mini is not known as the most accurate rifle out there, but they are reliable. And I agree, the best way to be prepared for SHTF may be other preparation such as adequate food/water other surv
