  1. Thanks, I will tell you the Win "Ranger Slugs" will not fit thru the SGM Modified choke. I shot a carbine/shotgun match the other day and used No. 6 Shot on the most of the steel out to 20 yards...no issues....with the standard S12 bore..(no choke).
  2. Hello, I would like to use a SGM screw on choke--"Modified" for mixed shooting Birdshot/ Buckshot/ Slugs. The Slugs that I use are Win Ranger 1oz Low Recoil...which work 100% in my S12. I contacted S.G.M. and they pretty much said do not try it in their "Full/X-Full" chokes but said nothing about the Modified Chokes. I pull a slug and it does not fit thru the "SGM Modified" choke easy.....Anyone have some advice before I blow part of my barrel off???
  3. My JTE extended mag release broke yesterday near the pivot point. Fatigue crack it looks like....any issues with the Ram S12xc extended release? I was very happy with the JTE until it sheared...guess too many mag changes. I usually buy my S12 stuff from CSS and saw the Ram S12 extended release...just looking for feedback....search did not produce much.
  4. I had mine cut back so with a Poly choke it is right at 18.5". Gas ports were opened up a bit....it certainly looks better. But two things I noticed were it is not quite as reliable now with cheaper ammo. Remington Nitro at 1235fps or the (Rem) Sporting Clays at 1300fps works great...but Wal Mart Federal bulk pack will have a issue every 100 rnds or so. I just changed the recoil spring to a 12.5 lbs 1911....this might help....I was using a stock spring...will have to test it. I mostly shoot 3 gun Matches.....and I noticed I had to choke down a bit to knock down minimally exposed poppers. I
  5. I use a mag well on two of my S12's.....both AGP and the Surefire require removing some material. That said I have never had (knock on wood) any problems with either. I use my S12's mostly for 3gun matches so giving up any capacity is not a option. Sounds like the factory 8 rounders are the best for general shooting. But both AGP and Surefire both work great in my stock gun (converted) and the ones with mag wells (mags are modified).
  6. I thought Robar was the only one who does NP3?
  7. I bought one from a local builder (kvar Warsaw stock) done very nice for $750 when all this import nonsense started. So depending on your view on how all this pans out....1k seem a bit high...but if you gotta have one...might be worth it.
  8. Sorry, JT Rock and Lock works well.....I had Cobra(profile the bolt) and with some practice you can load on a full mag...pretty quick. I still think the mag well is better but if you want to use the drum and not mod mag's then the JT is the way to go. I use my Saigas for 3gun matches mostly, so every 10th of a sec matters. Just depends on what you are doing.
  9. I run my competition S12's with that small dust plate which attaches to the recoil assembly removed....you can put you finger in (sounds bad) and pull the trigger...just guide the hammer up. With my over/unders I use snap caps....but I agree dry firing a AK/Saiga will not hurt anything.
  10. I know this does answer your question but I have a Russian mag well on one of my S12's and just modified Surefire and AGP mags to fit. Not one issue.
  11. Surratt, Second thread on this...works good....drill and install.
  12. If you are shooting competition every 10th of a second helps. For general shooting it does not make much difference....bottom line is that it helps seat the stock mag quickly....and a easy mod compared to a mag well.
  13. I have and installed one on a S12 that I was going to try out in 3gun matches (currently use a mag well on another 3gun S12). Make sure everything is lined up before you drill (highly recommend a drill press) I was slightly off and had to elongate my hole slightly. Forget about tapping the hole for the screw and just use nut included...otherwise it seems to work pretty well with some practice. I am currently having my bolt recontoured so I can reload on a closed bolt. It is much easier to line up the mag and lock it into place quickly....once I use it in a few matches I will know for sure if i
  14. I have used JB weld to build up the back of a Russian 5 rnd mag so it would lock into my mag well (Russian) also have used it to put stainless steel feed lips on Zytel mags for M11/9 SMG. Never a problem..has worked for years. I would give JB weld a try or use a plastic specific epoxy to build up the area and refile. With any epoxy prep is everything and I cannot believe you took so much material off that a small build up and recontour would not fix it.
  15. I took one of my newly converted S12s to the range yesterday to zero for slugs and use a pattern board to see exactly what the polychoke did to patterns. First off I can tell you first hand that shooting slugs on the full setting will not damage the choke or gun. I recommend you check the setting better than I did. Anyway they work as advertised.....shot sporting clays with it later that day...works great.
