  1. Shellshock, You're right. As I mentioned earlier, prices should be down because of the commodity demand worldwide, and Osama I mean Obama will definitely have his plate full with economics. However, as an investor I like to buy low and sell high, and I'm just afraid that right now is a low. I hope I'm wrong, but I want to have something to practice with and not pay a buck a round in a year or two as well as have something set aside for what may come. If the pandemonium abates and prices drop to less than 1/2 as the market would suggest then nobody will be happier than me! But in the mea

  3. AKA I really like your notion that the liberals have learned something but I'm afraid you're giving them way too much credit. The anti advocates are licking their lips waiting for the opportunity to propose legislation. I think the only thing saving us in the short run is the horrible state of the economy, the wars and the new social agenda. Income redistribution (how to pay for the economy and they wars and the social agenda) will also be a busy task. But trust me, they'll get to us in due time. Hell, I'm stocking up! I can't imagine the prices going down.
  4. Took the words right out of my mouth. Here's the other kicker- ammo prices should be WAY down! The run up in costs last year and this were supposedly due to 1. wars driving up demand, and 2. commodity prices for copper, brass, lead, etc. being driven by international demand, primarily from the emerging economies. Well, if you look at the markets you'll note that all that stuff is trading at about 1/2 or even less than the peak, yet we're still paying top dollar. We started to see a little easing of prices a few weeks ago, but the election changed all that. The prices really could
  5. Now it seems like the price of 7.62X39 is going up faster than ever and all the suppliers have run out! I feel a little panicked that I need to add to my stash and wanted to ask, how much ammo do you think you should have in reserve and how much are you sitting on right now?
  6. with the regular hunting stock you need to replace 1 part with US made part (hand grip, gas piston) in order to use the US made 11+ mags (3 parts there) for a total of 4 parts replaced with the skeleton stock (counts as both stock and pistol grip) you now have to replace a total of 5 parts, so 3 with the US made mags, and then 2 more. the trigger group from dinzag counts as 2 parts. thats my plan anyways because I have the skeleton stock and like it, and don't really like any of the available forearm grips. downfall is people will always be asking me "is that 922 compliant?" since it lo
  7. Thanks, that is just what I was interested to know- just doing one simple mod to get legal with the hi caps. Now about that trigger: I have and shoot everything from a .54 cal muzzleloader with double set triggers that goes off with one pound pull to a 30/30, a bunch of .22's, all sorts of handguns and a Mosin Nagant 1938. My Saiga trigger is in the mid range of all of them, actually just about like the stock 10/22. I'm getting about a 4" spread at 100 yards but i think most of that is the random sight picture from not being able to rest my cheek due to scope height, so the trigger break i
  8. A month or so ago I found a side mount scope rail for my otherwise stock 7.62. Apparently, it has to be so because of the receiver cover. With a 32 mm scope it is so high that I have no resting place for my cheek. As a result I bob and sway as I look through the scope which has to be 90% of the accuracy issue I have. Any suggestions for getting a higher cheek rest?
  9. I've had my Saiga 7.62 for about 6 months and it is just about my favorite gun! I bought several 30 rd USA mags but am concerned about the Gestapo busting me shooting cans so I'd like it legal for the hi caps. I like the configuration as it is- trigger, stock and all- so what's the easiest thing(s) I can do to get 922 compliant for the big mags? Thanks in advance- this forum is what gave me the confidence to go with a Saiga.
  10. I was able to purchase an ak style scope mount at the local gun show. It stands up over the receiver cover so with the scope mounted i can't rest my cheek and see through the scope, kinda need to use my chin. Well, accuracy suffers. Anybody have any solutions? Do the Ruskies just have long faces? I'm about ready to go back to iron sights or one of those things that bolt on the the receiver cover.... Thanks
  11. My Saiga is a brand new 16 inch basic sporter that I got for 300 a couple of months ago. I bought 3 pro mags and later picked up 4 master molders. I looked into a bullet guide but decided to wait until I had a chance to tweak the mags a bit. I used a factory 10 round as a guide, took some measurements with a caliper and filed the pro mags and master molders until they would snap into the gun. Mostly, they just needed a trim under the little bump in the rear that is held by the mag release- no more than 15-20 little strokes each. Took it out yesterday and every mag loaded every round perfe
  12. I bought three 30 round mags from the fellow who sold my Saiga. They were almost impossible to insert at the range, having never tried before while the Factory mag worked fine. I later used a caliper to compare widths, lengths and thicknesses and used a file to bring them into compliance. I'll report back here when I have tried them out.
  13. I've been doing research on the internet and lurking on this site for the last few months and decided on a Saiga 7.62.39 with a 16.3" barrel. We took it out last weekend and it was everyone's favorite gun. It is light and powerful without the shoulder bruising of a Mosin Nagant. The Saiga 10 round mag fed flawlessly, but the brand new 30 round ProMags wouldn't seat well; they misfed and even fell out during firing. A workbench visit with a caliper comparison between the factory and aftermarket mags along with a file soon produced a complete set of mags that will snap tightly in to the we
