  1. Wow, that is cheap! I like that. Thanks much! How did this work out? I am putting together a list of parts I need for my Saiga 7.62x39 conversion. This would be great if it is compatible! It is cheap, it accepts the muzzle brake I am looking for, and it looks like akpartskits.com has plenty in stock!
  2. I used a Dinzag Arms S-308 FCG for the pistol grip. conversion. I thought everything was already fit for the S-308. What gives? I finally got it in but it was really tough........how can I fix this? Disassembling the rifle for cleaning is now a highe project........
  3. Seriously.....I am sleepy, angry, and frustrated. I converted my S-308 today with no problems. Not I am just at the last step of reassembly and the bolt carrier wont go in. I had trouble doing it even before the conversion. Am I just retarded or what am I doing wrong????????? AAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I don't have enough room in my oven to do that, I think. I have a normal kitchen oven. I am trying to fit the whole Saiga in the kitchen oven, disassembled of course. Really though don't put it on the rack right?
  5. Wow. Thats easy. It won't leave "grill marks" on the rifle like it would on a steak? Haha......
  6. My guess is that I would have to do just that, use a small file to make the hole in the trigger guard plate match the hole in the receiver. I need to go to the hardware store to get some small files. Really the only part that doesn't align is the nook where the "single hook" is in the trigger hole.
  7. I am planning on using Brownells Baking Lacquer in matte black to touch up my Saiga after the conversion. It requires 30 minutes at 300* in the oven. I can barely fit the rifle in my oven diagonally. However, what should I rest it on? Surely I don't put it on a cookie sheet! How should I place my rifle and parts when I bake them in the oven?
  8. I am converting my Saiga .308 using the SaigaTech trigger guard plate (http://216.92.217.113/saiga/page6.html). Everything has gone okay so far, but I am stuck. The single hook trigger hole in the Saiga's reciever does not quite line up with the trigger hole on the SaigaTech trigger guard plate. Specifically, it is the part of the single hook that does not align. Do I need to file the groove for the single hook on the SaigaTech trigger guard plate to match the receiver's cutout? Here is a couple of pics, it may or may not help because of a horrible laptop camera.
  9. Not many options for the .308 as far as I know. Leave it be or thread the barrel.
  10. Well.......i'm not. No ACE, for now at least. I wimped out and went with a FSE poly triangle krinkov stock. It will probably be temporary until I get the ACE planned right or I find a metal triangle krinkov stock.
  11. I ordered one today and got an e-mail confirmation today. Not the shipping confirmation, just order confirmation. I can't wait!
  12. Thanks guys. My problem now is how to mount the ACE internal receiver block. Since I am using the trigger guard, I cannot use the pistol grip nut to secure the internal receiver block. Also, since the S-308 does not have any original trigger pin holes for drilling and tapping I could not use that method. dogbone21, did you drill new holes into your receiver in order to drill and tap the holes for securing the internal receiver block?
  13. I am planning the conversion on my Saiga .308 16". I have the SaigaTech steel .308 trigger guard plate on the way, and I want to know if I can still install an ACE Skeleton fixed stock. There are a few problems that the ACE Skeleton stock brings when using the SaigaTech trigger guard plate. I found a link of a member here that provided a tutorial on how to solve these problems on a S-12, but not a S-308 ( http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showto...hl=ace+tutorial ). With the Saiga .308, my main problem will be how to provide enough support to the ACE internal receiver block. There wi
  14. I am having a hard time trying to decide which buttstock to put on my Saiga .308 after I convert it. I was originally planning on a K-Var poly Warsaw length buttstock. However the ACE Skeleton stocks are so sweet looking. I know that in order to use a ACE Skeleton stock (http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_inf...products_id=281), you must use the ACE internal receiver block(http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_inf...products_id=301). "The ACE Internal Receiver Block requires modification to the receiver; i.e.. the tang on the back of the receiver must be cut off then filed or ground s
  15. Yes, just swapping the Saiga buttstock for a traditional AK buttstock is okay if there is no pistol grip or other "evil features" attatched. You would be California compliant, but I do not think you would be 922r compliant.
  16. Yeah, it does look like I will have to refinish the lower section of the receiver either way I go. I am not planning on using an ACE internal block. However I just realized that if I do not get the SaigaTech trigger guard plate, I will have to cut out a hole for the pistol grip nut. I do not want to do this at all, so I am goint to get the SaigaTech trigger guard plate. So the SaigaTech trigger guard plate does not come inished, correct? It comes in unfinished steel?
  17. I am planning a pistol grip conversion for my Saiga-308. I was going to order the SaigaTech trigger guard plate for $49, which has the pistol grip mount included. However, Dinzag Arms updated its website recently, and now offers pistol grip conversion kits for $29. These kits include a trigger guard along with bolts, screws, center punch, drill bits, allen wrench, and hole plugs. Would there be any difference in the difficulty of the conversion if I pick one over the other? If I choose the Dinzag Arms pistol grip conversion kit, I would have to paint or touch up the area under the trigger
  18. Hmmmm......something to look into. I remember seeing somewhere that sold an AK rivet crusher that was made from bolt cutters. Will this work? I am going to do some research on the rivet thing and what it takes.
  19. I wouldn't say I am "worrying", I am just too anxious about my conversion! I won't even have the rifle in my hands until probably next month and I am killing the time until then by thinking about how exactly I am going to get the conversion done. Since I am a rookie with no metal experience under my belt I want to make sure I have the advice of you kind Saiga guys! Thanks so much everybody for the help so far, I'm sure I will have tons of more rookie questions to come.......
  20. I actually just got back from Lowe's tonight and couldn't find any screws 6-32 or 8-32 x 1/4", but I found both in 3/8" length. From what you say the 3/8" should provide plenty of room inside the receiver. I bought both the 6-32 and 8-32 x 3/8" just in case I need the smaller so compensate for being off on my hole. They have a combo round head and include nuts. I also purchased #6 and #8 lock washers. This should be what I need, right?
  21. So if you put the nuts on the inside of the receiver you have to file the ends down to clear the FCG. Sounds like I will put the nuts on the outside for the rear trigger guard hole, since the pistol grip will cover it anyway. But what about if I wanted to secure the front trigger guard hole under the mag release. Can you easily get a 6-32/8-32 screw and/or nut fastened in that small space? Also should I use any specific type of nut or just any kind that will fit the screws I get?
  22. For bolting the trigger guard in place, the Cross-Conn conversion website recommends 6-32x1/4" or 8-32x1/4" pan head screws and nuts. Can I find these at Home Depot or Lowe's? If not where can I find them? Also, do you bolt them with the nut on the inside or the outside of the receiver? After fitting do you need to file down the screw flat with the nut? Should I use any threadlocker?
  23. +1, install it in the trash, see avatar pic. That's the funniest avatar I have ever seen!
  24. So I am going to go with cobalt bits (1/8", 3/16", 1/4", and maybe 1/16" as a starter). As for the tungsten carbide cutter, those are only available for a rotary tool and not a hand drill? How much power do you put behind the hammer on the center punch?
