  1. There are some Bushnell Holo sights going for under $200 over on AR15 Equipment Exchange. A guy was selling them for $99, i don't know if he has any left. Look under Optics Budget.
  2. Well, I took my dremel and opened the slot up a bit. Took a Sharpie Paint Pen and painted the rear sight green and front post white. Made a huge difference and turned my evil black rifle into a Spartan AK. Go MSU.
  3. After some research, it is being retained by a shepards crook, but it is not holding. I will be heading to Lowes to pick up some hitch pins.
  4. It does not look like it was secured.
  5. I took my second Saiga to the range today. It was converted by someone else. After 30 rounds the rifle would not fire. I stripped it down. The pin holding the hammer in place slide out a bit and the hammer was cocked to the side. How should the pin be secured to prevent it from happening again?
  6. I have an AK rear sight with number 1-10. It is a medium gray in color. My old eyes have a hard time picking up the slot. Would it help to paint the surface facing the rear of the rifle red or white or black. I am also thinking of widening the slot a bit. Thoughts?
  7. Can I buy an AK47 front side block with brake threads and bayo lug and replace the stock Saiga FSB?
  8. Just found this Suppressor/Brake: Phantom 5C2 Comp/Flash Suppressor Suppressor Is it a good choice?
  9. I have a new converted 7.62 on its way. It does not have a brake or suppressor. My current 7.62 has an AK74 type brake. I have done a search and read through the threads, but still am undecided about what to put on the new gun. I am leaning toward a flash suppressor. My thinking is that the 7.62 does not really kick that much and thus a compensator is not that useful. Do you agree? Thanks
  10. I am happy with the quality of my ATI stock. It folds and is collapsible. ATI Stock
  11. I tried to take pictures, but could not get any clear enough to show the play in the bolt. Having taken another look, and reading your comments, it may not be a problem. The shaft on the bolt is 0.345 inches and the slot on the carrier is 0.350 inches.
  12. In advance, pardon my layman's terminology. What he showed me: The tunnel in the carrier that the bolt shaft rides in is not round. It is elliptical. There seems to be too much play in the assembly. The gun works, but he said that I would need to replace the parts at some point. I am at work. I can try to take some pictures tonight. Thanks
  13. Well, I thought I got a great deal($500 including FFL fees for a converted 7.62x39 with a AK foreend and brake), but now it is looking like it might just be a good deal. I wrestled with jamming problems and gave up. Sent it to a gunsmith. A bunch of little repairs were required, but he also said the bolt and carrier will need to be replaced at some point. The slot in the carrier that holds the bolt is worn and there is play in the assembly. Where can I get a replacement bolt and carrier? Thanks
  14. I hand cycled 100 rounds through the gun. When the jams occur the bullet seems to hang up on the guide. I don't want to wreck the guide, so any advice on how to smooth/polish it would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I installed a new mag catch. Now there is very little play in the magazine. Hand cycling still caused jams. Here are three pictures of my bullet ramp. They are large(1 MB each) because I wanted to keep the detail. So I am posting links instead of images. Saiga 1 Saiga 2 Saiga 3 Does the bullet ramp look good? A separate question, when the bolt carrier is pulled back, should it clear the hammer, or should it depress the hammer as it passes over? Thanks for all your help.
  16. I got it. Boy was that frustrating. I finally put a couple tips together and it was easy. First, using vise grips squeeze the legs together. It work best for me to have the spring perpendicular to the grips. Zip tie the legs. Then use a cut off nail, screw or anything to hold the spring and catch together. Put in place and push out the nail with the retaining pin.
  17. I am replacing my mag catch with the K-Var. I got it apart. Not exactly sure how the spring is installed. The spring has to legs , one loonger one shorter. I think both legs face the catch. Does the longer one go up towards the gun or down? The leg that goes up needs to attach to the gun for tension. Where does it attach? Thanks.
  18. I have a Kobra with a Weaver base. I am trying to figure out the best way to mount it. Here are my choices(I think). 1. I have rails on the Handguards. I can mount it there. Pros free, easy. Cons I am worried about the heat from the barrel frying the sight. 2. Low mount QD Side Rail. 3. Hi Mount Side Rail Possible pro is that the iron sights are still usable. Which way should I go?
  19. Thanks for the great explanation.
  20. Searching the interweb, I found two write ups. One says you turn the little screw(in the center of the spanner nut) to make adjustments, the other say you do not. Which is correct?
