  1. The first time i saw a saiga-12 was way back in 2000-2001ish. Kinda gets hazzey but CDNN investments were selling them super cheap. No one really knew what to make of them, at least i didnt. Couldn't find very much info about them back then. EAA Corp. was importing them and they almost couldnt be given away. Yep, $199 for the basic 12g and $229 for the adjustable rib and bolt hold open($179 for the .308s and $129 for the .223s). My father suggested i buy one, i just passed it up until i saw a picture of an un-neutered s-12 on world.guns.ru. didnt know they had the same internals and receiver
  2. I also like the tapco. it will take a beating, its relatively inexpensive, lightweight and easy to fit. I did have to add a 1/2" pachmayr pad to make it more comfortable.
  3. Awesome, and congrats. its a good looking rifle. i have the saiga-bug too, and you're just making it worse. I cant wait to get my saiga-223 converted. enjoy your new rifle.
  4. LOLZ, I get VELETA Extra Virgin Olive Oil products. I know with the situation and all its scary, but its kinda funny too. Did our drums magically turn into olive oil?
  5. Looks like a good build, you know you got it from Tony, you know you dont have to worry. I really like the magpul stock. Have alot of fun with it.
  6. I couldn't help myself...
  7. Could at least chop it back to the gas bock, or put some rails on it or something. lolz
  8. This is my new/current build. I went thru the same problem when I was deciding what to do with this one. My two previous saiga-12s had Ace Skeleton side folders and I was getting a little tired of them. I wanted to keep this gun as light as possible but retain maximum functionality. I decided to go with a tapco telescoping stock. I had put one on a friends .308 and I decided I liked it. Suprisingly enough its quite durable. After the initail build I found the recoil a little too stiff for my taste and decided to put a 1/2" pad on the butt and port the barrel. IMO its really whatever
  9. thunder 5 rocks!!! http://www.thunder5.com/docs1.html i always wanted one; i think they look cool, cooler than the taurus. But like ClickClick said any standard caliber pistol and conventional ammunition can achieve the same thing sigh. You can see a thunder 5 in action in the movie "Black Dog" long before the taurus came about.
  10. That looks an awful lot like the one i sold him not too long ago... http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=14641
  11. Ah ha ha ha ha!!! ROFL!!! I think thats so silly, i'm gonna stick with my agp 10rndrs too. Its like "I think ill have a magazine tube below my magazine tube, so i can reload my magazine tube." Someone just needs to make a "detachable" tube magazine system. lolz
  12. I fired a DMPS .308 at 50 yards and consistantly made one-hole groups, i would estimate 3/8" easy. also fired a armalite ar-10t in .308 and made sub 1" groups at 50 yards. Both functioned well and were very accurate and also very pleasant to shoot. I'd go with a DMPS just because of the price. http://www.dpmsinc.com/firearms/308/base.aspx also note that dpms rifles use modified FAL mags and Armalite uses modified M1A/M14 mags
  13. the first gun i ever owned was a 870, and it's been with me for almost 10 years, and i still have it. I have thousands of rounds thru it and it still runs like a champ. I just got finished rebuilding it with this conversion and i am still waiting for a surefire 918fa foregrip to finish it off. I've had my s12 for about 5 years and its still running strong. I would have to say i prefer the s12 over the 870 for 4 main reasons, it handles like a rifle, its more compact, semi-auto, and has, detachable magazines. but i do like the 870 because you dont have to spend retarded amounts of money on

  15. 000 buck is good for lots of things. it works well on medium sized game, lots more penetration and less overall damage than slugs. works great on hogs if you can get the whole pattern on them. wouldn't use it as defensive load in an apartment complex. also pretty good on automobile bodies as compaired with smaller shot. my grandma's favorite load for keeping blackbears away was 3" 000 mag, course she can't shoot a shotgun anymore, just too old. not too long ago i shot some Remington 3" green hulled mag loads with, i think, 11 pellets, each about .35" diameter, nasty nasty stuff.
  16. #130 Yeehaw, i'm sitting at the door waiting for the postman. (I keep telling myself "Any day now")
  17. Dito, Strawman. Thru constant, proper cleaning and good ammunition, i would say the ar comes really close it terms of reliability. And tho the ar gas system increases accuracy, and the tight tollerances also help a great deal, these are the reasons for failure in a harsh environment. The ak family's reliability is derived from the long stroke piston method and loose tollerances. But because the ar's gas system is static while firing, barrel "wobble" (harmonics) is not interfered with; while the ak has moving parts which bump into the barrel during "wobble" accuracy suffers, also stamped sheet
  18. looks pretty bitchin to me, looks kinda weird too, but thats whats said about every revolutionary design. I can see something like that filling alot of military and police applications. I think ill stick with my saiga tho, gotta have the semi-auto. I wonder if you could convert one of those mags to work with an s-12? (hush hush, gun grabbers might here you. we'll keep it on the down low.(someone had to ask)) Can't wait to see the finished product. Where are the sights?
  19. I'm still waiting for the revolution... ...and my 10rndrs. Hopefully the mags come first.

    Surefire?

I have tried heavy magnum loads and have had no problem with either the 65 lumen or 120 lumen bulbs, i have a 120 bulb in my saiga right now and a 65 in my 870 right now. Other than the fact that the 120 bulb eats batteries like potato chips, i have had no problems with either of the surefire units or bulbs on both my 870 or saiga. I have had one dead 65 lumen bulb DOA from surefire, sent it back and took the time to request the 120 lumen bulb for replacement. Because of the gas system and semi-auto action of the saiga, recoil between the 870 and saiga are a world of difference using m

    Surefire?

Because of the design of the saiga 12, the shape and thickness of the barrel, placement of the gass tube and the gas block, I was able to easily modify a surefire 618 for the rem. 870 to be mounted straight and solid on my s-12. With a dremel tool, a little patients, and some hand fitting, its easily do-able. Its alot cheaper than a 900 series, and i dont really favor the forward vertical grip, and i don't like loading up with tac rails ill never use either. I have also fired several hundred rounds in single sessons thru my s-12 with the surefire on and the plastic doesn't melt or warp, its
  22. First off, Yes, 8 round mags were imported but in very few numbers. When the saiga was first imported (started in 99' i think) they were limited to a 5 round mag (and no pistol grip) because they were imported as a sporting shotgun (because of the 89' import clause). Limited numbers of "combat/military" style saigas with pistol grips and folding stocks, were imported for law enforcement, and also the 8 round mags for use in only the law enforcement saigas (marked "law enforcement only")=ghey . All this was in the middle of the AWBan so the 8 rnd mags were never offered to private citizens.
  23. well, i had the idea of building an upper and bolt assembly that functions thru an AR-10 lower receiver. If youve been on the forum for a little while, then you know 12 gauge shells will fit in any double stack .308 magazine, several people here have tried to make magazines out of M-14 and G3/cetme magazines. Converted M14 magazines are what the AR-10 magazines use anyways. If someone could make an upper it would be very hard for the atf to justify banning the AR-10. considering how many are in circulation. $.02
  24. Willing to pay top dollar for usas 12 mags to convert to work in my saiga. I know its a hot topic, but if anyone is willing to part with one (preferebly more than just one, but one will serve the purpose). I will convert mag(s) and post detailed pictures and "how to"s on how to do the conversion. I have more than enough heavy machinery and equipment to get the job done. I have no plans to half-ass the project. Hopefully everyone can benifit from it. Lagomorph
