trigger assembly questions,woes & rambles.
SimpleIsGood229 replied to polarticus's topic in Saiga 7.62 X 39
Incorrect. The hammer spring ends must rest on the rear of the trigger (each on its respective side) just behind the disconnector. That's why your trigger isn't resetting. -
No problem, man. I figured I would pass along the info, as I had a heck of a time finding said info while I was stock shopping. I'm interested to find out how your new setup works out.

P-A, you will not regret buying the Vltor over the CAA. Having owned both, I can tell you that the Vltor is completely parallel with the bore, unlike the CAA which actually has a slight downward slant (I believe the angle of the receiver bottom, relative to the bore axis, creates an optical illusion).

I bought a T6 in order to save a bill over the Vltor receiver extension--what I originally wanted. I soon scrapped the T6 due to its downward-sloping angle. There just isn't a good cheekweld with this stock. I now have the Vltor stock that I wanted in the first place, and couldn't be happier. If cheekweld matters to you, buy the Vltor.

Welcome aboard. You can do the polishing, but it's not necessary. The only polishing I've done to my 7.62x39 is to the FCG.

Recommended rail/optics for sub 300 yards?
SimpleIsGood229 replied to zaf511@gmail.com's topic in Saiga .308
ChileRelleno, Ultimak is always a great suggestion, but they unfortunately don't make stuff for the S308. It can be made to work with some significant modification (or so I hear), but it's apparently pretty involved. Personally, I'm waiting for the TWS generation II rail. -
Realistically, I don't think so. Why risk damaging your receiver when 2 minutes of drilling will have them out?

saiga mags w/ bullet guide installed + mag loaders?
SimpleIsGood229 replied to indie's topic in Saiga 7.62 X 39
The Saiga mags will work if you file the lip off of the front of the mag. Compare it to a standard AK magazine; you'll know exactly what to do. However, I must note that after filing the mag catch in order for milsurp AK mags to fit, my Saiga won't work with the 10-rounder it came with. The 10-rounder sits too low to correctly feed the cartridges. -
I suggest substituting your Phanton flash hider for a true muzzle brake.

Any feedback on the TAPCO T-6 Stock or POSP sights?
SimpleIsGood229 replied to Kim@d-dfarmranch.com's topic in Saiga .223
I don't recommend the T-6 since it has a pronounced downward drop (wrist-to-toe in conventional rifle terms) that inhibits a proper cheekweld. I wish I would've just spent the money on a Vltor or CAA aluminum stock and been done with it. -
If it were me, I'd wait on it. If you can snag it for a good price, go for it. Otherwise, pass.

The advantage of moving the trigger assembly to the proper location is the addition of a pistol grip, much better trigger, and rearward shift in balance, as well as making the entire weapon shorter.
-
You mention some reduced powder charge rounds coming out sooty. It sounds to me like the loads aren't generating enough pressure to expand the case inside the chamber.

Tech Sights has a rear-mounted aperture sight in the works. Should be out soon.
