  1. Years ago with my very first saiga in 308win using the surplus south african 308 ball FMJ ammo me and my son were shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100yds benchrested. I realize it could shoot even tighter groups with a better quality ammo too. But were very happy with the 1 1/2" groups with surplus ammo. For a brand new russian izhmash saiga for just $289 with this kind of accuracy along with the dependability this is hard to beat. Off the shelf the saiga is accurate and the accuracy depends on the quality of the ammo were using too. Now i wonder how good it can shoot using the 175gr FMJBT sniper
  2. Geez guys it took me until recently with the saiga being offered in 223 that was for me to purchase a semi auto rifle in 223. I was never fond of the 223 round nor liked the over priced black rifle that fired it. The russians did say our 223 round and the 308 round was more accurate in there saiga's than the russian calibers were. They thought it was the design of our brass case. Living in a state were i can't own any other semi auto rifle in 7,62x39 but an sks i'm limited to the sks only. I can't have the saiga in 7,62x39 nor all the other ak's. Now my problem is do i really need the sai
  3. Its nice but i want the orginal saiga look withy no pistol grip to use as a sporter hunting. I'd like to make use of the $6 a box barnaul 203gr sp ammo. But after a second look at your pic it takes the drag mags so that maybe a perfect pic for me too i like it more that i looked at it.
  4. Why do i see the standard, stock, orginal and untouched 308win saiga's going for so much higher in price on the guns for sale sights? I've seen then as high as $750. After bringing my first saiga in 308win to my hunting camp in the north country and shooting it after the hunt was over it impressed everyone of us and the natives too. When i got home i went to purchase my second one in 308win and found the full rock of 308win saiga's gone, noda, sold out in a few days. But the rack was restocked with the 16" saiga's in 223. I was never fond of the expensive black rifles nor the 223 round
  5. My question is can i take a parts kit with all the drag parts for the 7,62x54r and install it in my saiga in 308. Can the bolt/bolt carrier and barrel be installed on the saiga receiver. I would also like to make the barrel at 16" too. Has anyone thought about this or done it yet? UKP
  6. My first saiga in 308win was $307 OTD. At the time the 308win saiga listed for just $289 while the saiga in 223 listed for $259. Both had 16" barrel. The last time i was at my local gun shop he had two 16" saiga's in 308win for just $450 each. I may go back and see if there still there. UKP
  7. Many years ago in the beginning with the saiga's first being offered to us. There were a few shooters hitting gongs at around 450yds. with the 16" barreled saiga. Now with that kind of accuracy can we nail it down to shooting smaller targets at 500yds. I believe shooting another 50yds is possible. I think we can find a better ammo to go farther out. Between the 16" barrel and the 21" barreled 308's there has to be a point where the 21" barrel will exceed the 16" barrel in accuracy. I'm not sure if anyone has compared them yet at the farther distances. I'm sure at some farther distance th
  8. I look at other sites and start wondering why most of the new semi auto gun buyers are buying the saiga's in 308win for there new hunting rifle? Why do they buy the same rifle over and over like the remingtons. Can you completely disassemble a remington rifle and claen it in minutes? Can you really lube your new remington or other moderm semi auto rifle? I just don't get it. I own six saiga sporting rifles and never regretted it yet not once. I passed up a new springfield armory m1a for my very first saiga in 308 for $307 OTD cost wise and never looked back or thought of the SA M1a again.
  9. For 500yds i'd go with the 308 saiga.
  10. I been using the south african 308 ball FMJ surplus ammo and its given us 1 1/2" groups at 100yds benchrested. Some guys on another forum are getting 1/2" MOA's with better quality ammo. When my 308 saiga was new the 4 of us hammered it hoping it would fail but it never did no matter how hard we pushed it.
  11. All 6 of my saiga's are in there orginal out of the box condition but there lubed with moly thats it. Try some moly on the trigger sear it works.
  12. I put a tad of moly on all my gas pistons and a little in my gas tubes also. The scoring were seeing tells me it needs a lube. Try some moly on your bolt/bolt carrier, receiver rails, recoil spring, trigger sear too. It smooths everything out, the saiga will cycle faster and the trigger is much better. Once you try moly in the saiga all your guns will be lubed with moly.
  13. I had a recent talk with the head guy and the word is there is a shippment of new saiga's due here soon.
  14. I been shooting only south african 308 FMJ ball ammo in my saiga so far. But the receiver, bolt carrier/bolt, recoil spring and the gas tube/piston are lubed with moly so the receiver inners should last as long as the chrome lined barrel will. I'm not seeing any wear at all yet anywhere nor do i expect to when using moly. My 308 saiga's are much better than my G3 is already plus the M14 will have a headspace problem before my saiga's will. If you shoot the M14 and the saiga on an even basis.
  15. Nice shooting you got meat at a cheap price too congrats. Many years ago it was mentioned about using cheap affordable military surplus rifles to put meat on the table. They did an article on the russian guns. This only sparked my interest in military surplus guns more. I purchased two 50cal ammo cans of the russian barnaul 203gr sp ammo too. I found it to be very accurate in my svt-40 tokarev and in my m39 finish mosin too. I'm going to have to take out my mosins someday to hunt with them too.
  16. I read on another forum that some are shooting 400+ yards with there 16" barreled saiga's which makes me wonder at what yardage will the 16" barrel actually go and still shoot good groups. So where does the 16" barrel drop off and were does the 22" barrel go out too? How far can both barrels shoot in 308? I only have a 100yd range here. The 16" barreled 308 saiga is awesome, its short and accurate. I do have a 22" barreled 308 too but i haven't shot it yet. I been too busy with the 16" barreled 308's. For long shots i have a 338win.mag with its 4,000ft.lbs @ muzzle and 2,700ft.lbs
  17. If your TIG welding it you need to weld it with little tac's at every 90 degrees keeping it square. If your MIG welding it you can use a slower hand speed when welding to draw it back into alginment from the opposite side you can actually pull it back using the welder. I've done this many times when welding and holding the alignments within .002".
  18. My remjet 700 in 338winmag will put two bullets thru the same hole at 100yds and i don't even consider that a so-called sniper rifle. I have 4,000ft.lbs @ the muzzle and at 200yds it still has 2,700ft.lbs thats the muzzle energy of a 30-06 @ 200yds. I say forget the 06 and go for the 338. The britts are using the 338cal and i think its a lapuna. The best i can do with my 308 saiga is 1 1/2" groups @ 100yds using south african 308 ball ammo with no scope. Thats the facts it is what it is. I think thats dam good for a saiga using surplus ammo. I wouldn't trade my saiga for any other ri
  19. Are you welding it or using a low temp silver soder?
  20. Either way its time to buy every saiga i get my hands on again just like i did when the importer changed a few years back. You can have too much of a great thing now can we? If i had my way i would have a safe full of saiga's.
  21. I read that the russian Barnaul ammo is a tad more accurate over the others. I just ordered some barnaul soft point in 223 and 7,62x39 too.
  22. Will the saiga in 7,62x54r be here soon? We been waiting a longtime for this one. I been hoping the russians would manufacture them in more calibers too like the 8mm mauser, 7.92mm Kurtz and the 6,5mm swede too. I'd buy them all on the spot if they did manufacture them.
  23. I knew the unbelieveable / affordable saiga prices wouldn't last for ever. These are turning into gold now. But its still one of the best buys out there.
  24. Dam i been hoping for eons to buy a saiga in 7,62x54r and it was suppose to be soon i heard too.
  25. I'd buy both and moly the gun up and the trigger too. www.tsmoly.com I bought both after shooting the 308 saiga i went back and got the saiga in 223 too.
