  1. I think what alot of people are missing here is that quite simply, the population of NO was asked to evacuate; then told the big one was coming and they needed to evacuate, and finally told get the hell out or else. I think we can see as some of the early reports showed, that a goodly number of people just said they were going to stick it out, with predictable results. Then, the SHTF. Big time. Hell, the NWS was only off by 15 miles as to where landfall was going to be! (Remember the guy they kept talking to who was in his attic with an ax, sledge hammer, and said, "When really it gets bad, I'
  2. Hi Ned A Paradox choke or tube is simply a rifled device, like a Remchoke, or Winchoke that threads into your shotgun's barrel to allow for the more accurate shooting of slugs and sabots. I use one on my Saiga, and was really surprised by the improvement in accuracy from the plain cylinder bore.
  3. Yep, I went with the Winchoke / Browning Invector type set up. Got a few extended choke tubes with the muzzle brake incorporated into them for roughly $18 each at local Cabella's. Also, picked up an Invector paradox tube for slugs. A friend with a gun shop let me use his reamer and tap set. Took all of 3 hours from start to finish/test fire. This does work quite well.
  4. I've got a set of the Russian sights (front & rear) from Russmilitary, and they work pretty well. I have the 18.5" barrel set up with Winchoke / Browning Invector threads. The Paradox tube is very consistant with most of the slugs and sabots I've tried out to 50yds. With shot / choke tubes, it points quite well, too. I also occasionally use a BSA red dot (44mm) that seems to be enduring the recoil / shock pretty well. So far. It was cheap, so.....
  5. I ordered (and received) the front and rear sight set for my S-12 from Oleg. It actually got to me faster than an Invector choke tube coming from Canada. Actual time from UK was about 14 business days. Being rural, my letter carrier simply put it at my back door and that was it!
  6. It is a replica M-1 Carbine rear sight. If original GI, it would have some marking denoting manufacturer.
  7. Here's a shot of my second conversion. The first was sold to a LEO. Don't know if it's being used for duty or personal use.
  8. Uh, I thought that the #1 setting was for 'Heavy' and #2 was for 'Light'? My S-12 shoots everything except reduced LE and light target loads on #1 with an 18.5" barrel. To solve that problem I just didn't buy any more LE loads.
  9. Well, let's face it. There is no one who is going to cut prices. After all, if it is raining gravey, why use a fork. I just saw some schmuck buy a single 8-rounder on Ebay for $120 plus shipping. Hell, I passed on them on Ebay when they were ONLY hitting at $70. I'm not saying that the screwing that we are taking price wise is correct, only that there is very little if anything we will be able to do about it so long as the demand is greater than the supply. If you can, the best thing to do is to be patient, use the 5-rounders, and hope for some relief when (and if) the supply of 8-rounders cat

    man, mag changes

I performed the 'notchectomy' on mine. Locking it open is now a single handed operation. (Thumb on bolt hook; pulls it back; finger lifts lever to engage notch.) Took 5 minutes with a Dremel.

    Winchoke in S-12

I used a carbide reamer from a local gun shop where I help out on a regular basis, and the Winchoke tap was nitrided, so wear was very marginal. Whole reaming/threading process took about 3.5 hrs. To me it was worth the effort. As to price, the tubes range from $17.95 up to $100, depending upon the brand and type of tube (ie flush, extended, ported, extended and ported, rifled (for sabots), even adjustable like a Poli choke).

    Winchoke in S-12

I cut my S-12 back to 18.5" (19" from bolt face), and threaded it for the Winchoke units. The gun seems happy with this arangement, and I definitely am. Plus, there are so many varieties of tubes from 'Spreaders' to 4X-Full to Rifled for sabots. Some are flush and some are extended and ported. Nice cool factor!
  13. I'm not an expert, but based upon what I've seen, high-end units (which this gun obviously is) going for at collector shows, I would think a moderate sized bundle, especially depending upon who is the manufacturer. Cast around on-line for leads to houses that specialize in investment grade European firearms such as yours. JMHO
  14. For what it's worth, I saw a T33 with both grips painted exactly like that this past weekend at a local gunshow. The dealer said HE thought it was a political unit or maybe a formal dress / parade piece. I thought it was interesting.
  15. I ended up with all the multiple posts simply by following the on screen directions (wait 20 seconds and click again). I emailed Makc to see if there is a way to delete them. I know some of the other forums I frequent allow the poster to delete an item of their own. This I would happily do. Even while I'm typing this reply, there is a "Warning: main(config.php): failed to open stream: etc, etc." across the top of my screen above the SAIGA-12.com banner. Believe me, I'm not trying to screw up the forum!
