  1. If you are willing to put the work in to sand and finish Ironwood furniture, then yes, I'd say go for the wood! I wanted to do that with mine but got lazy. I wonder if the Ironwood stuff is stamped with a "US" on it?? Hmmm. -Joe
  2. Does one exist? I installed my Bulgarian sling, but it's way too short... Does a sling exist for NATO length buttstocks? thanks -Joe
  3. I found out both types of ammo are ok to shoot at my range. Steel jacketed is ok, steel core not ok. thanks guys -Joe
  4. Thanks much for the replies guys. I figured that was true. Even though the round has a (brass??) covering to it, it most likely has some magnetic metals mixed in with it, right? My range is pretty great actually. It is outdoors and is an NRA advocate of NJ. Everyone there is pretty pro-gun. I want to buy an M1 Garand and the best deal on that type of ammo if the Greek surplus stuff which attracts a magnet. I just think it would be hard to explain the situation to a range officer without them actually cutting open the round. They do have Garand matches there regularly a
  5. Hey guys, I recently found out that my range prohibits armor piercing rounds. I don't believe they prohibit magnetic rounds because of brush conditions in the woods, but perhaps only because they are armor piercing, ?? I'm not exactly sure... Are the military classic rounds armor piercing? It would suck to not be able to use this ammo anymore. -Joe
  6. Nice job man! It looks great. It was pretty easy for myself too, considering it is my first gun and I had never worked on one before. The only issues I have are a bit of handguard play and my buttstock has a tiny gap between itself and the receiver. Other than that it shoots great and I'm happy I did it. Here is mine: -Joe
  7. Yes, I know...I can fill it with sand, mud, yadda yadda. I'd like to know the most common or pro way of cleaning the rifle. Military technique, whatever! Also need to know which materials to use, how to use the cleaning kit, etc. Is there a good write up online somewhere? Also, I still have some slight metallic powder/residue in some areas from drilling earlier on. What is the best way to remove it? Some places are quite hard to get at. Thanks guys, -Joe
  8. Thanks dude! So basically, if one is locked, the other can be unlocked next to it, (same compartment??) I am going to lock both anyway. I gotta see if my back seat folds down. I guess it wouldn't be considered a proper trunk in that case! I keep confusing it with my old car! Looks like I need a new gun case. :-( I think the ACE soft case locks; I'll probably pick one up. -Joe
  9. Hi guys, I'm new to the scene and had a couple of questions about transporting my rifle to and from the range. The gun is obviously always unloaded, breach open, safety flag installed, and in it's case (zipped soft case), in the trunk of my car. What is the deal with ammo? Can it also be in the trunk? Does it have to be in a locked box? Or can it be stored freely in a bag? If not, should I keep it in a locked box in my back seat? Or is this unnecessary if it's locked? do I need a proper "lock" on my softcase? My car (Honda Civic) has the back seat door thingamabob. does
  10. Thanks for the info man. Yes, I have a Bulgarian sling. It does seem a bit short though, since I have a NATO buttstock. I'll give it another go today. Cheers -Joe
  11. Haha, hope so! Also, how do you guys stay stable when standing? I find that the muzzle drifts a bit. Trying to control this. -Joe
  12. Yeah, I was placing the target on "top" of the post for most of those 6:00 shots. I suppose if I adjust the front sight a bit, then I will shoot higher. -Joe
