  1. Is this scope mount strong enough to hold a small 3-9x38 1 lb scope on a 5.45 saiga? Scope Mount What is the advatage of paying twice the price for a russian version.
  2. Does an Ak-74 bulgarian bolt carrier work in the saiga 5.45 ?
  3. SGM is making a trirail forearm that fits the Saiga without having to remove the FSB/GB and adding a retainer ring. Has anyone tried these, is the polymer of high quality? Is there any heatshielding? Would this be a good way to add a vertical foregrip and light mount?
  4. Any light at the end of the tunnel yet ?
  5. I just spent time over at an AR forum where they all recommend Bravo company usa ARs which supossedly are near colt quality, then I saw a thread where the typical accuracy with their 20" version is 2 MOA. I just can't see spending the extra money on an AR. But since I have a stockpile of 5.45 ammo for my AIMS-74 I'll probably wait till the next shipement comes in instead of getting the .223 version.
  6. I understand the the mighty Savage bolt action rifles don't do so well with Milsurp NATO 7.62x51, saw a report of 3" MOA with milsurp. Has anyone compared the two guns with typical quality milsurp ammo? I can't see spending the extra dollars for a bolt action if it has the same accuracy with Milsurp ammo?
  7. I've always kept a 9mm Glock by the bed with a light and LEO +P+ JHP. I always figured this 19 round gun was plenty powerful enough, I am surprised that folks consider the .410 saiga inadequate. My issue with using a .410 AK for home defense would be the legal/politics of it. A converted shotgun that shoots 15 rounds and looks like an AK would be hard to xplain in court, while a 9mm Glock well thats what the police carry.
  8. First food, I don't care to die of hunger. I have a Savage .22LR Stainless BA, would love to put some sort of budget night optic on it, one could literally survive for years on possoms, coons, fox, rabbits, and the like in the woods around here poaching at night. Stock up on .22LR over anything else. I also have a collection of 9mm Glocks and a Sub2k for concealment which may be useful in some SHTF scenarios (blending in.) I do have an AK-47 but I really haven't stockpiled on ammo for it, I see it as a defense to gang drive-by's, even then a Mosin may be better. I guess it along
  9. To me the design of the military FMJ's are a good way to get around the no hollow point regulations, for self defense I don't see spending the extra cash for a bullet the gun wasn't designed around.
  10. Is it more accurate than a 5.45 Saiga in the hands of an average real average shooter and both using surplus ammo ?

    WTB 5.45

The unobtainable plain ole' 5.45x39 Saiga
  12. Does you're dealer ship? I'm looking for a 5.45
  13. I guess I started this thread because I have two AK's that are both authentic to their region but folders, so they are great to look at and I'm sure would come in handy if a war broke out but they really aren't fun for extended target practice. I want a fixed stock semi-auto rifle with optics, vertical foregrip, bipode that's more of a range toy. Obviously the cost of 5.45 makes it a preferred range gun at the moment, and they are probably slightly more reliable than the .223 Saiga? Looking at this .223 AK I might be better off with a cheap AR. Thinking I should wait and see what happens
  14. I'm seeing 5.45x39 Vepr's selling for $2k. I missed the boat on buying a 5.45 Saiga by just a couple weeks. Now the SLG's are drying up. I hate to buy an SLG30 for $850 when new SLG-21's are selling for $600 shipped. You just never know what can happen in the gun market.
  15. These results make me think 2 things: 1. The .223 and 5.45 aren't any better than the 7.62? Surprising 2. Probably the average Saiga is as accurate as an average $800 AR edit #3 The .308 Saiga may be a more practical buy than the $600 Rommy PSL's on the market
  16. Good point. I guess all my AK's are authentics to their origin, I want one tacitool toy, the saiga 5.45 would have been a perfect platform. Since only the .223 is available I'm considering that. Tacitooling a SLG 31 would be sort of wasteful. And no no target shooting, and I'm not a great shoot by any means.
  17. Looking at a typical AR-15C (colt CAI rebuild) or other $700 20" AR vs the much les expensive .223 20" saiga. I had my heart set on a 5.45 saiga but I just got off the phone with them and they are no longer available, period. Is a $700 AR that much more accurate than a 20" .223 Saiga to justify the extra cost ?
  18. One could get 6 compliance parts by using USA Mags and keep the stock piston and FCG, would the stock FCG work with the AK config? I would assum being russian it would be superior to the compliance FCG's ?
  19. WTB 5.45 at a reasonable price
  20. It's like you built a Romanian AK 74. AIMR or AIMS is the model I believe. Good job. I was going to do this when J&G had the last of the 5.45 Saigas left, but ended up going with a SAR-2. Amazing how similiar we think. If I ever get a Saiga 5.45 I will get the handgaurd with the lower rail and make it my only tacitool AK. I am a big fan of vertical foregrips, somehow helps being left eye dominant. Here is my Aims-74 Sar-2, an authentic bakelite upper is on the way:
  21. I'm pretty sure this is a sticky already. I just don't know about this method, wouldn't you want to drill through the dimples with the proper sized drill bit to give natches in the barrel for the FSB pins? Then you dremel off the FSB, and you would be guaranteed to line up the new FSB because using actual pins they would only go thru where the slots are? Am I nuts thinking this?
  22. You, sir, should write plots for movies. I would totally watch this. I really hope this is all true, but I have seen many good deals disappear over the years. The $335 Saiga 5.45 was almost too good to be true considering inflation, and of course I missed the boat, by about a week. Frustrating but I really hope you guys are right. If anyone wants to sell a 5.45 at retail PM me.
  23. If I ever find a 5.45 Saiga I want to do something different. I have a fairly authentic Polish UF AK and a AIMS-74. My plan for the Saiga 5.45 would be a budget mild tacitool: Probably standard Tapco rear stock Saiga USA Handuard with a lower rail & upper rail Light and vertical foregrip/bipod and light on rail maybe optics on top. Thread the end of the barrel 1/2x28 and install a AR version AK74 brake This would be pretty cheap, the only non-reversible mod would be the threading. I just don't have the lasers and tools to put on a correct FSB. Now in 20 years will I re
  24. WTB Saiga 5.45x39, in PA but shipping to my FFl is OK.
