  1. The 870 is old enough I'm sure the patent has expired. The S-12 - doubtful. But I'm not sure how international patent law works. The basic action is more than 20 years old now, it's possible that the design is no longer protected by international law.
  2. Unlikely that it's a hoax. The video has been judged likely authentic by the Japanese minister of defense, and the US DoD has confirmed that Goto is dead. It's very unlikely Japan will become embroiled in the fighting in the Middle East. Their constitution pretty forcefully prohibits military actions that are not purely defensive. Without a constitutional amendment, Japan will almost assuredly not be sending combat troops to the Middle East. They will probably continue their humanitarian efforts in the region.
  3. One of the press releases about RWC specifically mentioned shotguns. I'm betting they'll tool up to build a 12-gauge AK.
  4. Plenty of people thought bush would do that too. Not realistic. Without the appearance of an orderly transition of power, nothing works. Nothing that brutish and unsubtle will happen.
  5. Interesting that they're also buying new AK-103s. I guess they've decided 7.62x39 still has a valid place on the modern battlefield. A little strange that they'd choose to field two assault rifle cartridges.
  6. I've seen one dimpled like that - but I've mostly worked with 7.62x39 rifle kits. With those you can just knock the pins out with a plastic jig, a hammer and punches - then stick the barrel remnant in a vice and smack the parts off with a rubber mallet. I guess if I had to improvise with what you've got there, I'd remove it by drilling a hole slightly larger than the outer diameter of the barrel at its largest point in an arbor plate, then pressing the barrel out down through the hole in the arbor plate. To make the punch with which to press it out, I'd just take a small piece of thick sheet
  7. I think you vastly underestimate the cost of designing and tooling up. Dozens of new parts have to be designed, which means dozens of processes have to be tooled up for.
  8. PPU makes great brass, and great ammo overall. I have some PPU 54R casings that I've reloaded more than half a dozen times without issues. I've used a small amount of their 5.56 in the past, but I was dumping ammo through a dealer's select-fire rifle, so I can't really speak to accuracy. It did all feed and fire without a hitch.
  9. Yup, that sure looks like an MP5 or a G3 had a baby with an AKM. Why the fuck the mags are still rock and lock I do not understand.
  10. I've owned a few H&K pistols - my experience was that the standard single/double trigger was really nice, and had a pleasant, fairly short travel. The LEM trigger is utter shit - ridiculously long pull and long reset. The recoil is very controllable thanks to to the dual-spring system, which also makes them ridiculously easy to rack, since the stiffer spring doesn't engage until the very end of the ejection cycle. Reliability, accuracy, and quality are all fantastic. The only cons I see are the excessive cost of magazines and other accessories, the proprietary rail system that limits you
  11. It's ugly, but let's not exaggerate. At least this thing probably has a practical use.
  12. It's more than a little concerning that "effective" is misspelled in their advertising materials.
  13. It's all about risk to benefit. Designing, tooling up, and beginning manufacturing of a product is extremely expensive. There's a substantial risk of your investment not being paid back.
  14. How long before ATF decides to reclassify it as a DD? No reason why the same reasoning that applied to the shit that got reclassified in the 90's can't apply to this.
  15. No point in running a vented gas tube on an AKM - there are already vents in the gas block. On original milled guns there were no vents in the gas block. The gas tube isn't really a gas tube - it's just a piston guide, makes sure the head of the piston slides neatly back into the gas block. After the piston has passed the vents in the gas block, no appreciable gas pressure is applied to the piston - there's nothing approaching a gas seal in the gas tube, gas readily passes around the head of the piston. What rangemaster said about carbon fouling makes sense. Blowing more gas out of extra ven
  16. and this way, you get to inspect the rifle in person and determine if you want it.
  17. Possession of an unregistered Short-Barreled Hat is a Class D felony.
  18. In today's market, not a bad price. I'd snag it.
  19. I didn't care, until I got to the part where they'll be bringing in a .308 pistol version with a folding wrist brace.
  20. Translated by Google then cleaned up a bit by me, it says:
  21. Hopefully he was fired for being a dangerous idiot. He did discharge a firearm within city limits - which is illegal nearly everywhere, and is technically a gun crime. For some departments, that's an automatic termination.
  22. There is some demand for the 24" guns, since they're relatively rare and people do tend to chop them. You might be able to trade it for a 19" gun and save the hassle.
  23. Took the words right out of my mouth. It's possible that there may be a neurophysiological cause in some cases of PTSD - but my understanding of PTSD, from having lived with someone with the disorder for more than a year, is that it is a purely psychological phenomenon.
  24. There's more than enough stupid to go around, here. How the fuck does a loaded weapon end up sitting in the case? How the fuck does a clerk hand that loaded weapon unchecked to a customer? How the fuck does a customer not think to clear the gun? How the fuck does that customer point that gun at nearly everyone in the story, endangering their lives, before aiming it at himself and firing?
