  1. I've played around with thermal sights a bit and the biggest problem in civilian hands is you can't identify your target like you can with normal night vision. So in order to shoot something, you need to be sure that what you're looking at is alright to shoot.
  2. I don't know about with Russian ammo, but several years ago I took a pair of .223 Saiga's and shot a pile of groups with different handloads. I used a 12x Leupold Target scope for the test. Out of all the groups combined (5 shots at 100 yards) the average was 2.25" for one rifle and 2.5" for the other. Some groups were down around an inch, but others were up around 4" or so. Tony
  3. I've done about a dozen of them in 12", 10", and 8" lengths. They run fine. Tony Rumore Tromix
  4. You probably had some sort of debri get under the trigger foot that limits forward travel. It would be at left rear of the trigger. Tony
  5. I shot one with my Valmet 76 .223 20 years ago. It was running broadside at about 50 yards and I touched off three quick shots. All three landed in about a 3 inch triangle right behind the shoulder. It ran about 20 yards and piled up. Tony
  6. Well.....sort of. Torque is simply a calculation based on horse power and rpm. Torque = HP*5252/RPM Since you're dividing your horse power by RPM, you end up with more torque if you can make a bunch of horse power at low RPM. If you have to spin the motor up to high RPM to make HP, your calculated torque number is naturally going to fall off. Tony
  7. I don't think blowback would work. The bolt/carrier would move rearward while there was still too much pressure and blow the case out. You need a barrel extension (locking lug piece), DPMS part number BL-17. Thread the chamber end 13/16-16 and install the extension with about .006" clearance between the bolt face and the barrel chamber face. Cut the chamber using a reamer and set the headspace at about .001" - .002" off the go-gauge. Contour the exterior as desired. Your most common gas block diameters are .935", .750", and .625" so you will need to pick one of those for the diameter
  8. When he first shows the gun, the bullet button is so far out of postion, it allows normal access to the mag catch......and he's in California. Tony
  9. Jaba, Most likely you have a sharp edge on your bolt. The downward tab that strips the rounds out of the magazine is too sharp on the front edge. So as it picks up the first round, the second round is being scraped by that sharp edge and it will try to draw the #2 round forward as it's chambering the top round. You're catching the number 2 round in the middle of the body and dragging it forward. There is no way the bolt could be BEHIND both the #1 and #2 case heads. Taking that sharp edge off should fix the problem. Tony
  10. That happens when you have excesive headspace. Tony
  11. I have never owned a game console and don't plan on buying one anytime soon. My parents never even owned a television. Tony
  12. Since the Russians like to drill the holes in no apparent regular pattern, you just have to look at what you have, and squeeze in more ports wherever you can. I have found that if you have four ports in the classic diamond pattern, that is not good for allowing more ports to be added. It's better if you have less than 4 to begin with, and being off center helps a bit too. Tony
  13. I believe DPMS sells them for the AR-10's. Those muzzles are 5/8" so it would be bit large for a 14mm rifle, but would probably still work.
  14. I wonder who trained John Moses Browning to design guns? Did he have a certificate? With his track record, I'll bet he went to all sorts of classes and had certificates hanging all over his walls. Pffffft. Tony Rumore Tromix
  15. It's the only AR-15 mag that runs well with the .375 Auto Mag round. Tony
  16. The first 556's came with the shitty plastic Sig AR-15 mags that didn't work. I didn't realize they fixed that problem with later shipments. Tony
  17. I need one of those POS plastic AR-15 Sig 556 factory magazines....yeah, the ones that don't work in anything. I'll trade you a Tromix T-shirt for it. Tony

    Bolt gap

I have two receivers here with the barrel removed. I put the bolt/carriers in them and slid them forward. The bolt won't rotate unless I help them by providing some initial bolt head rotation, and then the dog-leg in carrier takes over to fully lock it. Jack is correct. However, I am not convinced anything in this thread is causing that problem. I would take a look at the face of the feed foot on the bolt. Tony
  19. That is nothing like the 3 that I bought when the AR-30 first came out. None of the 3 could hold three shots into 2 inches at a 100 yards. And that was with a pile of different loads. It appears Armalite has changed something.......... Tony
  20. I met Jerry a few years ago.....he is really a nice guy. Tony
  21. Yes they do. But there is no NICS check on NFA items. They are exempt.
  22. That's a 76 in your pic, with a Galil AR magazine adapter clipped on. The magazine is a 40rd USA. That doesn't work worth a shit. The Valmet doesn't have a bullet guide, so the rounds will feed too low. Tony
