  1. Here's a place you can get once-fired hulls: http://leadandbrass.com/zencart2/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79 I've never bought from them, but I've heard good things about them. Hope this helps, Carl
  2. Sorry, I missed this thread back in April due to insane amounts of overtime. I'm just now catching up... Turbo, Thanks for the great explanation and pics. That really helps! Did you cast your own wadcutters, or did you buy them? Also, do you lube just the grooves or do you lube the grooves and then lube the whole bullet? Many thanks, Carl
  3. Got a flyer today from Centerfire systems. They have Saiga 7.62x39s and .223s in stock for $399. That's higher than the $349 I paid for a 7.62x39 back in late September, but not too bad... Carl
  4. I bought an '08 7.62x39 saiga this last October, and it doesn't have the dimples. It does have the PG hole, though. Sure made doing my conversion much easier! FYI, my wife's '08 saiga .410 has the PG hole, too. Carl
  5. No. Safety not on Bolt will only open about a inch It looks like the bolt is hitting the front of the follower not letting the bolt turn the hole way If i push down on the follower just a little bit the bolt will open I removed the follower and then it will open I think the follower is coming up to much or is to thick on the sides preventing the bolt from tuning to unlock I had this problem with my 15-round mag. The problem was a plastic burr on the top left front of the follower. Couldn't pull the bolt back at all, and it was hard to load the mag into the well w
  6. Here's the link to a great conversion site. I followed the directions here for my first build and it came out great. All you need to put the BHO back in is 2 feet of dental floss. Page 8 of the build is the start of putting the BHO back in. You can find it here: http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/saiga/saiga-8.htm Enjoy! Carl
  7. If trigger pull is an issue, converting the saiga to an AK pistol grip configuration will help a lot. I converted mine a couple of weeks ago and the difference in trigger pull before/after is incredible! Of course, I'd be envious right now of 7" groups at 100 yards, 'cause my old eyes can't even see the stinkin' target at 100 yards anymore with open sights! Sigh...guess it's time for me to get glasses... Carl
  8. Can you be a little more specific? What kind of magazine (vendor, # of rounds, steel or poly) are you trying to modify? If you're trying to convert a saiga 5-round mag to a 10-round mag, I think Tapco makes a replacement follower that does that quite easily, and doesn't require you to modify the spring. Carl
  9. Check out this site for converting Berdan brass to boxer: http://users.ameritech.net/mchandler/primer.html Carl
  10. Hmmm. You must have an older Saiga .410. The newer ones have the hole. Check out the instructions on this conversion page: http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/Step_5.htm . There is a link you can click on to get a drawing of how to cut the PG nut hole. Good luck, Carl
  11. All, Within hours of taking office, Obama has completely redone the White House website, outlining his agendas with large dose of propaganda built in to boot. Of particular concern to those of this board should be the following excerpt from Obama's "Urban Policy" webpage. Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden al
  12. I just converted my 7.62x39, and I used a retaining plate. I used the following conversion guide: http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/saiga/saiga-1.htm This was posted here awhile back in another thread, but I'm too lazy to go look it up. To see the retaining plate, go to page 9 of the conversion (http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/saiga/saiga-9.htm). It's easy as pie to put in, takes all of two seconds! Good luck! Carl
  13. Thanks, nalioth! I have a friend that's a welder and I'm sure he can do that for me. I was figuring I'd have to have my friend weld on another piece of metal to the mag catch lever then file it down, but your idea is both simpler and better. Funny how often "simpler" and "better" go hand in hand... Thanks again, Carl
  14. Looking to buy a Bulgarian Trigger guard w/no pivot pin holes. Many thanks, Carl
  15. OK, I'm too tired tonight to figure out how to post pics. I'll try that tomorrow. Suffice it to say there were two problems with my AK-63 trigger guard kit. First, the 'tab' or 'tongue' on the back of the mag catch lever was too long and at the wrong angle. A little grinding fixed that problem just fine. The second problem, though, I haven't figured out how to work around yet. The second is that the pivot pin hole in the trigger guard is too high for the mag catch lever they sent me. The TG was supposed to be undrilled according to their website, but what I got was an obviously used
  16. I just started my 1st saiga conversion on my brand new 7.62x39. I've never built an AK before, so I'm a total newbie at this. I've already installed the Dinzag bullet guide. Many thanks, Dinzag, this was a breeze to install! I'm now ready to work on the TG. I'm trying to just replace the original Saiga trigger guard/plate and mag catch with an AKM TG that (naturally) has the mag catch built in. Being somewhat paranoid, I don't want to modify the Saiga TG or destroy the TG plate just in case future gun laws make me revert back to the stock sporting configuration in order to keep my
  17. Happy New Year to you as well! You can swap out the hammer and disconnector and not move the FCG forward, but you can't swap out the trigger without moving the FCG forward. So you only get two compliance parts this way instead of three... Carl
  18. Sancho, Though the combinations you listed looked OK to me, I'm certainly no expert! You do need to be careful about treating the PG as a compliance part, though. If you add a PG, you are adding a US part, but you are not replacing a foreign part, so the foreign part count remains unchanged. So your options 2) and 3) which look like they'd give you only 9 foreign parts actually give you a total of 10 foreign parts! Strictly speaking, 10 foreign parts is legal, but many feel that having only 9 foreign parts is more safe because the language in 922r defining the number of foreign part
  19. If you want to keep the original butt stock, then here are the easy things to swap-out towards 922r compliance: - US Magazine (counts as 3 compliance parts: follower, body, and floorplate) - handguard (which you already mentioned) - hammer - disconnector If using foreign mags, you can replace the follower and floorplate on each with K-Var US-made parts. That would give you 2 US compliance parts. With a little more work, you can also replace the gas piston with a US part. Can't comment on the skeleton stock, I've only used the Tapco T6 Infusion stock w/PG. Hope this helps
  20. I had a different problem with my Surefire 15 rnd mag... With mine the magazine would go in and lock OK, but I could not rack the bolt with an empty magazine. It was getting caught on the front of the follower -- the 15 rnd follower sticks up about 1/8" more than the follower in the Surefire 10 rnd mag. The bolt just would not budge. I took off the top cover and the upper receiver latch so I could see better what was going on. I then discovered that without the spring tension on the bolt, I could rack the bolt. Did this 4 or 5 times, then removed the mag. I could see that the pla
  21. Try this link: http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/step_8.htm This shows how to make a bullet guide using a piece of pipe. Hope this helps, Carl
  22. Awesome work! I'm assuming that the attachment doesn't include the flash hider. Is that a 24mmx1.5 thread? I wanna know what size flash hider to buy to go with it... Thanks, Carl
  23. If you shoot at a range, check with them. Some ranges (like the one I use) won't let you shoot FMJ rifle rounds. Carl
  24. You might want to check and see if it's a newer .410 or one of the older ones that only shoots 3" shells. That would be a great price on a newer one, probably still an OK price on an older one. Carl
