  1. Blackthorne, I'm not done with the Saiga yet. Here are the options I've been toying with: 1) Weld up all old holes. (I need to practice my MIG welding first) 2) Secure the internal stock block through the old FCG holes with Button Head Cap Screws, as mention on this board. 3) Secure the internal stock block through the old FCG holes with rivets. I would have to parkerize the gun first as you can't phosphate aluminum. 4) Nothing for now and keep building/buying firearms while they are still legal. There will be plenty of time in the future to
  2. 7.62m43, That's a Ace internal block, stock, and push button folding mechanism. The hardest part of the modification was setting the front set of rivets. The forward most set are directly under the center support/magazine catch. kbailey3
  3. I know I'm a newbie on this site, but here's my .02. Curtis is a A+ parts supplier. I have build 10+ AK rifles with his parts for myself and other forum members. Before he offered the Saiga trigger guard, I bought his new production AK trigger guard, safety stop and reinforcement plates for my Saiga builds. One build is done, and I'm waiting on my NOBAMA special. Here's the first build. Since I like the look of the AK trigger guard, this build has the AK-Builder rivets, reinforcement plate, safety stop, and trigger guard from a Romanian part set. The receiver has also been modi
  4. Check out these two threads on the BHO and Safety Selector if you are using the Shepard's hook (Krebs retaining plate). Modifying BHO to clear Safety Selector http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php Modifying BHO spring http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=24599 They helped me a lot while trying to assemble my first conversion. hth kbailey3
  5. As I understand it, a piston has grooves cut into the head to accept rings. On a AK based rifle, the piston is screwed into the bolt carrier and riveted in place. This piston has the grooves cut into the head and counts as the 922r part. According to the Saiga-12 factory manual, the piston is the puck. The extension on to the Saiga-12 bolt carrier has a smooth head and the puck has the grooves. The ATF 922r letter, I found on this site, only lists a piston. And from what I've read here, there's no clear cut definition, from the ATF, as to which part is considered the piston.
  6. A&N Sports in Sanford was able to order one from their supplier in November. It took about a week. Find a local gun shop and see if they can order it. Mine was $625 out the door. (gun, sales tax, NICS) kbailey3 Edit for firearm info: IZ-109, 08 stamped on the side, 3 hole gas port.
  7. Another update: My order arrived today, and I'm also missing a few parts. (screws) I've sent an email to Tim, and will have to wait for an answer. Between the two kits, I had enough screws to put my first Saiga-12 together. Still waiting on the Nobama special for the second stock kit. kbailey3
  8. Just an update, my charge card was hit yesterday for the 12/05/08 order. I will let you know when it arrives. kbailey3
  9. I called ACE on 12/5/08 as well. Asked the lady answering the phone about getting a push button folding mechanism. She didn't know anything about the ACE line, and referred me to Tim. (their ACE product line guy) Tim said the internal AK-47 receiver blocks were out of stock, and they were having more made. At that time, he said it was a 5-6 week wait. Tim was very helpful and gave me the price of the upgrades. He told me to order the stocks on the website and add the options in the comments field. kbailey3
