Sounds simple enough! Alas. when it comes to drilling my receiver I would rather let someone with some experience tackle that job. Which leads me to ask, does anyone know of a competent gunsmith in the metro Atlanta area with experience working on AK's? I've heard of a guy named Bill Hayllar who is supposed to be good with AK's, but have no firsthand experience with him. You Georgia guys know any others you would trust working on your AK?

Last trip to the range with it I started at 10' with a B27 silhouette target to simply get on the paper as a starting point. I was hitting square in the chest with the red dot sitting in the middle of the targets head. Thats a good 17" off at a ten foot distance! And the dot is at the bottom of it's adjustment and cannot be lowered any further. Naturally, that far off at 10' is gonna mean a clean miss and any other distances one usually uses a rifle for. Previously I had tried starting at 25 and 50 yards and missed the paper entirely! Removed the optic, use the irons, and I am back on targ

Tried it with a old Kobra I used to have and with my Vortex Strikefire on a old RS AKM mount. Went through the entire range of adjustment on the Vortex and never could get the damn dot centered. Not trying to co-witness, just trying to zero it. Could never get the dot to lower far enough to match the POI. Gotta be the rail cant causing this, don't know what else it could be...

Thought I would post this on the forum where I actually respect the opinions of most of you guys. Little history... had this rifle for about 6 years, shoots good with irons always been a reliable weapon, but never been able to zero a red dot with it. After a couple hundred rounds through it when it was a new the side rail began to wiggle a bit. Not real loose, but loose enough to move about a bit. Took it to a gunsmith well known locally for working on AR's and pistols, thinking he could handle a couple of loose rivets. Got it back, and again, after shooting a while the play returned.

Yeah, I feel you. Went over to the CSSPECS web site tonight to look them over again. No scratch and dent mags left for sale, and the others are $55 a pop plus shipping, and he currently has 487 of them on hand. I want some bad, but I simply can't pay that price for one mag. Maybe others can and will, but I can't.....

Why? Since MD arms has this much time and R&D involved in getting to this stage, don't you think they would go ahead and sell to the existing S12 market?

I have a FNP-40 USG and I love it. That pistol holds 14 rounds of 40 cal., which is one of the main reasons I bought it. I love the ability to change backstraps on it to get a custom fit and it too is a a soft shooter. The pistol is also US made, in Fredricksburg Virginia as a matter of fact....

Fucking A, just get the damn 1911 out of mothballs, add an extended 10 round mag, (readily available) problem solved! IF you need more than 10 shots with your sidearm you are likely dead anyway...

Drop 'em to $40 and I would buy. There is something about going over $100 for two mags that makes it harder for me to mentally justify than $80 for two would be....

For me the US made poly mag is the weak link in the Saiga 12. My mags, both AGP and the notorious ProMag, are not 100% reliable. At any random time I am liable to get a fail to feed that necessitates working the bolt back and forth to clear the jam or even having to remove the mag and then clear to get the gun back in action. The reviews I've read of the steel indicate these issues go away completely. My S12 internals are all polished and modded to lessen these issues, but the flex in the poly mags and the environmental factors they can be subjected to (extreme heat or cold) effect their

I know they cost what they cost, but if they were going for $40 I would probably already have sprung for a couple. As far as the discounted "dinged" ones, what held me back there was your description on them that some of them might have been filed to get them to fit properly in certain S12's. The thought of buying a mag that had already been filed that might not fit my shotty is a risk I didn't want to take. If they were only dented in the mag body I wouldn't worry about it....

The coolest thing about the VEPR 12 is the folding stock. Kinda looks like crap with a laminated AK stock on it...

How often are these "confidential informants" no more than cons themselves cutting deals to turn rat in exchange for dropped or reduced charges? How often are their claims proven to be little more than bullshit? 90% of the time? As others have said, I vote for whatever the round count would be for a mag no longer than the current single stack 10 rounders. That seems a good starting point. After that it all becomes a moot point...
