The handle came off a US M7 that had the tip broken off of it. Sharp is by the person, I wouldn't say the original blades came ready to shave with, but they were sharp enough yes. the Marines current issue bayonet comes with a ceramic barrel in the sheath to sharpen them with,

Yes, only mod was adding a 3/8" flat on the top and bottom to reduce weight and give a slightly different look.
