  1. Any Russian soft point ammo using a steel jacket for the 7.62x39mm would be a last choice for me. If your choices are between Wolf Military Classic/Barnaul soft point, and FMJ, I would definatly choose the FMJ. It's probably the most accurate of the commercialy available Russian ammo, and my experience has been that the soft point is more likely to give a FTF than hollow point. They didn't expand and mushroom like US made ammo. As close I seen were for some of the lead to squish out of the top of the bullet and the jacket separated from the bullet. The wise thing to do would be to buy so
  2. I was digging through old posts in an attempt to find the one I was refering to. I don't see it now. He/she said they are an engineer of some kind, and seem to talk the talk. I'm thinking they predicted that stress from the .308 round would cause the reciever to fail at what I considered a rather low round count, something like 4000.? Even if they were just blowin wind up our butts, it's still cool to see how much love people are showing their S.308 .
  3. The 10 round AGP mags seem to fit well in the 40 round "AK" mag pouches, although the strap on the flap to retain the mags need to be lengthed. What I see as a possible obstical to over come in fielding the S-12, is the top round deformation issue. With a full mag locked in and the bolt is closed, the top round tends to deform after a period of time which can lead to feeding problems. This might be over come by using steel hull ammo, and or using a bolt hold open.
  4. I believe that issue of magazine capacity was hashed out pretty good in previous threads that you could prob find using the search function. More that one person here has stated that the BATFE told them that they can us a S-12 mag with 20 rounds........
  5. Someone posted on this board a while back his estimation of how many rounds the Saiga .308 would hold up for based upon the 7.62x39mm standing up to 40,000 rounds. Though I've fired several, I've only put 250 through any one. Some of you good folks are way ahead of me hear. How many ya up to!
  6. Short answer is yes. According to the info you reffered to on their website, that buffer is made specificaly to use with an M4 stock that is adapted to your shot gun. It's not a buffer for an actual AR. I wonder what the effects of exrteme cold has on its recoil dampening abillities. Oil can sure get thick in the cold weather. I've also been told that eventually the hydraulic buffers wear out. I'd like to see someone try it and give us a report. Linky: http://www.mesatactical.com/index.php?id=62

    "SHTF" = WTF

    On the issue of being prepared financially, what do you good people think of the idea of investing in Gold?
  8. I like both. The 7.62x39mm using Winchester 123 power point/soft point does a good job on white tail deer at say 50 yards and in from a tree stand. I've not tried it at further out for deer. The 16" barrel makes it really handy.

    "SHTF" = WTF

    This is a long thread! I kind of skimmed it. Couple of small things I thought I would share. I've cut quite a few power lines in two since this thread started and they all were aluminum. The journyman electrician I was working with said that if they were not alum, the wooden poles couldn't support the weight. The other thing I wanted to share is that medical science now says that the benefites of drinking your urine are easily out weighed by the negative effects. Including causing dehydration. Not meant as a flame, just an attempt to contribute.
  10. You already have the 7.62x39mm for carbine purposes, now get a battle rifle that has some thump for higher penatration and more energy on targets. You will have your bases covered. Also the .308 does a good job on deer if you decide to use it in that way. Then you can get the .223 later.
  11. If it's a rear V- notch type, and a hammer and punch don't get it, then I go straight to the angle grinder and make a relief cut all the way across it and collapse the site with a pair of vise grips. Some of those pistol like rear sites are basically ceased in the dove tail.
  12. You might consider the Red Star Arms adjustable trigger for the .308. The model for the VEPER.308 is the one to order. Also, the Ace folders seem to be a good choice for folders, although I kind of have a thing for using RRA m4 6 pos stocks with Ace adapters, and folding mech.
  13. From what I can see, if all illegals would leave there would be a temperary vacumme that would actually improve the economy here overall. The buisness that would be hurt, are mostly the ones that are beneficial primarily to who ever is at the top of the ladder. Not the majority of legal citizens, especialy the blue color worker. Some distant relatives of mine want the illegals from mexico to stay because that is were most of the lower priced marijuana and meth is coming from.... Edted to add: the fruit and veggie crops would still be picked, just less of the over all profit woul
  14. The Russians seem to be rather occupied currently with bolstering the enemies of the USA with weapons.
  15. I think it's good too watch for decent deals and buy 1000 rounds at a time. As a min for .308 on hand I like 1000 of target practice rounds, and 1000 of the good stuff. BUY IT CHEAP, STACK IT DEEP.
  16. The more heat that you apply to your barrel, the more accuracy you will tend to loose. When you blind pin, you can tig weld a little spot over the end of your pin inwich is a little recessed from the surface of the flash hider. It's too prevent it from being removable. If you solder the flash hider, you need to use silver solder, that requires heating well over 1000 degrees according to the BATFE in order for it to be considered perm attached if I remember correctly. The small weld over the end of a pinn would be applying less heat to the barrel steel. That is a good reason

    Ammo

    Ah yes, That website takes me back to when I first found this forum....
  18. I don't know what would be realistic to work into a design, but what comes to my mind is, plate carrier, enough adjustment to wear over T shirt -- cold weather gear, back mounted retention/holster for secondary long arm perhaps. Molle for versatility...
  19. Hey Cobra, Thanks for the help bro! How did the disc golf tournement go? My second post was kind of a poor attempt to be funny. Replying to my own... Looks like barrel diameter is about .571".
  20. Good job! Keep up the GOOD work! It's great to see the family involved! I love to take kids to do stuff like that. It's a dream of mine to buy enough land to use for that. Were people can get together to shoot, hunt, fish, camp, hayrack rides, sledding, iceskating, ect...
  21. Can anyone tell me which/were I can find a front site tower to replace a damaged one on the 7.62x39mm Saiga?
