  1. Not discontinued but like most semi-automatic rifles the demand is so high dealers can't get them in fast enough. In addition to low stocks this has drove the price up. A new shipment of Saiga 12's at my dealers have gone from $369 to $559 each. I have been eyeing a Saiga 308 Ver.21 (thumbhole stock) at another dealer, two weeks ago they were asking $579; the price has now gone to $749. Anyone know of any better prices please post the dealer. Firearms are about the only thing that is not a "buyer's" market.
  2. This website must be on their own pricing program, as stated most of their prices are well above the new retail price. Always shop around.
  3. Read over the attached article on riveting. I can't recall the actual source but it was what convinced me that I could rivet my Saiga. How_to_install_AK_47_Receiver_Rivets.pdf
  4. Go to the web site http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/; this has the simplest and best breakdown of the steps needed for your saiga conversion. Good Luck.
  5. You actually heat the rivets up to install them. That is if you are like everyone else and don't have a rivet press in you shop. I came across the attached article on rivets on a very good AK web site. Read over it, I will have to admit that it was easier than tapping for a bolt kit. How_to_install_AK_47_Receiver_Rivets.pdf
  6. Why do conversions? There are several reasons, some have to do with the price of a Saiga vs. the retail price of an Ak 47 or 74. Retail for a Saiga 7.62 is less than $400, conversion parts vary depending on what you want to make it. To me that is the driver, its what I make it to be. My own custom, retooled by me. The other is the history of the AK, take the time to read how it came about being how long its been around and the fact that there has been little design change in all of those years. And maybe the other element is the challenge of doing it, and staying in the rules while
  7. I have just completed the conversion of my 7.62 from the sport format to the AK format. I am very pleased with the outcome. Parts were easy to come by and information that I had on "how to" was exceptional. I am looking to do a conversion on a .308, I have been researching parts such as the FCG, Piston, Stock sets and bullet guide I don't find anything specific to the .308. Are these the same components I used in my 7.62 conversion. (I know the bullet guides are different for the 7.62 and .223, but I machined my own) Also for my 7.62 I replaced mag followers and floorplates with U.S. mad
  8. I'm new to the forum but not to Saiga. I have just finished converting my Saiga 7.62 to the AK format. To use the AK mags you will have to install a bullet guide (the Saiga mag has a built in guide) I recommend that you look at several different types if you plan to do it yourself. Some have to be drilled and tapped, others drilled and riveted. I prefer the riveted, tapping is something I can do but I'm not good at. Also, you will have to file down the mag catch, it only requires a slight amount of filing. You can still use your Saiga mag after you modify the catch for the AK mags. Read
