  1. There were two dimples on the Pelosi Plate side by side just ahead of the receiver trigger slot (real slot after plate removed) the weld on the left was not under the left dimple where it belonged but was centered between the two dimples. The weld on the right was under the right dimple where it should have been. So if I had drilled the left dimple I would not have accomplished anything except a hole in the plate and a possible (hope not) hole in the receiver. BTW the plate is extremely hard to drill, harder than the receiver. The stock is the classic AK model it came From Greg Queen at
  2. I finally shot this rifle today for the first time. I am absolutely thrilled! The trigger is wonderful! You take up the slack and every shot is a surprise. I shot 138 rounds of south african berdan primed ball I bought for the trials. Shooting a 50 yard range open sights I destroyed the center of the target. This test was for gun and magazine function only. CCSPECS metal magazines 20 rd all four proved perfect as did my two surefire 25 rounders and the eight rounder. The rifle was flawless and silky smooth with no FTF's. I want to discuss the spot welds some more. I never mentione
  3. Finally got a chance to try out my four. All performed flawlessly
  4. OK it's done and it works now. It started out being .43 inches from bottom of shaft to top of tang. The tang did not touch the trigger foot. I had one of the guys in the welding shop add 1/4 inch to top of tang then I came home and went to work. It wound up being .485 high to the low side. This was the maximum that would clear the trigger top. The high side was perfect at .595 inches. I don't know why this happened, apparently it is drop in in most 308 conversions with the Tromix modified G2 FCG. Here is the Pic. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/Purplegang/reworkedsafety.jpg
  5. Thanks, everything came from Carolina Shooters Supply. Greg gave good support and fast shipping. I used his videos for the new hardware installation. It has the Tromix modified G2 and the reduced power mainspring. The hardest part was the two spot welds attaching the sporterizing plate to the bottom of the receiver. Cobalt bits would not touch them. I finally just inserted a screwdriver and beat the hell out of them then ground the residue with dremel attachments in my regular cordless driver. I just did not like the look and feel of the old gun.

  7. Just converted my 308 and I love it except I have no safety at all. Used Tromix modified G2 and a reduced power mainspring. The problem is the tang on the safety is too short. It is installed but does not reach down to the legs behind the trigger and disconnector when it is in the safe position. Does anyone know how much needs to be added?
  8. 308 $479 Huouston Gun Show 6-6-09
  9. http://www.gilbertsguns.com/Rifles/Saiga They have a plastic stock for $569.95 and a wood stock for $629.95. These are good people to deal with. If they have it on the web it is in stock and they take it off the web immediately after selling out. They ship when they sauy they will.
  10. So a stock rifle would be 922r compliant with Surefire mags if this forearm were installed correct?
  11. Got the skeleton stock installed. Did some searches and confirmed that only the two top screws are re-installed for the skeleton. Used a 1/8" drill bit and it was almost too small. I used a lot of extra torque getting the screws in amd boogered the slots. Fortunately I had the extra screw for the one that shows. 5/32 looked too large to my eye. Anyway for me it is perfect, feels like it was made for me. I have the UTG rail mount with Burris medium rings and a 4x scope and the cheekpiece is in the exact right position. Thanks again for the help.
  12. Thanks for the help guys I ordered a skeleton stock. I will let you know how it turns out for me.
  13. I just bought my 16" Saiga 308 and paid way too much for it in the midst of the current climate. I can't afford to convert it right now but I believe I can gain some shooting comfort with a shorter buttstock of maybe one inch. Does anyone know of a shorter stock that would fit the current stock configuration?
