  1. I thought he was describing the same problem I had, But I was wrong. What Nalioth is describing is the problem I had on my conversion. I removed material from the *left side only* on the disconnector where it was hanging up at.
  2. Two emails, one from CGW saying my Vodka special will be back on the 25th One from MD saying my drum will be here on the 25th. The Universe has aligned, it was surely meant to be.
  3. really surprised no one has made a tech article about this.. maybe it was just a issue with my trigger and s12. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=34654
  4. Interesting responses, gives me some things to consider. Desert Dog, if I'm reading you right, it may be that Federal Tactical is "the cheap stuff" ? If thats the case maybe I should be stocking up on the cheaper cheap stuff, and spending some real money on some of the higher dollar/ higher performance stuff ? Sopmod and Indyarms, sounds like the concensus is cheap stuff, for close range, and Sopmod for picking a good rifle for everything else. I've got my budget building for a PTR 91 MBR. Maybe instead of dumping a ton of $ into loaded shot, I should go with 500 or so loads of 00 buck
  5. Thats like a liberal wet dream. Hopefully we won't get that f*cked that fast. The shooting on the bus that supposedly inspired the legislation, is exactly the type of thing I think of when I read the quote; I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences of too much liberty, than those attending too small a degree of it - Thomas Jefferson Talk about punishing everyone for the actions of a few.
  6. Mike, in the video link above, i believe he used a screwdriver to ply off the old trigger plate. Thats how I did mine actually, but didn't need to drill those rivets out to get the plate off. After the plate was off, I drifted them out of the reciever with a punch. Its remarkable how few tools you actually need to get the job done !
  7. I've been shooting Nobel Sport 00 buck out of my saiga, it feeds and functions great. I paid about $150 for 250 rounds of the stuff. Federal Tactical is about $40 more per 250. Convince me why its better to pay more $$ Does Federal pattern better ? Is it a matter of shelf life ? Twenty years from now will the powder in expensive loads hold up better ? Is it reliability ? No failures so far on cheap stuff. I'm not saying I'm too cheap to buy good stuff for a rainy day, I'd just like some more knowledgeable minds to school me on this subject !
  8. Nalioth, I hear you on that. One of these days I hope I get a chance too try, before its one more freedom lost in my lifetime. What I really mean is, if I'd known it was so much damn fun to do, I'd have started building rifles when i first got into them, instead of buying the ones I've got . At the very least, I wish I had a big ol' pile of saigas to play with. kyhelo, I spent probably 30-40 hours reading old and new posts on this forum before I started. Even then I had a few questions about wether I was doing things right, following the right directions, wondering if I had ordered the rig
  9. For the OP, I found that filing it out with a small round Needle File was quick (10 minutes) and looked better than the original single hook cutout. You will want a small file at the least to clean up your original cuts. My .02 cents.
  10. Yeah, now I wish I had a couple of kits laying around to build Problem is, now that I have the confidence to build a rifle from a kit, the kit prices are ridiculous ! Hopefully we have a few more years of gun (semi) freedom left in this country. I say, anyone wanting to convert a saiga to PG, DO IT! Its straight-forward, and a lot of fun.
  11. Well, I have to say I owe it all to Nalioth ! All he did was offer help with a conversion once I got my compliance parts. Well, once I had all the parts, I started really looking at the guides out there, and decided it didnt look too difficult. Besides, if I screwed it all, or got stuck somewhere , Nalioth could fix it right I decided to post what little advice a total noob could give. So, heres one post putting together all of the resources I personally needed. I started with a new saiga 12. Ordered K-var Nato Length stock for stamped recievers from k-var http://www.k-
  12. Thats an awesome idea. I've watched a video of a saiga conversion, but I never even considered doing it myself until I found someone willing to help out. I figure if I can just see it done right, ask questions firsthand, I shouldn't have a problem doing it on my own. But I know I'd screw it up with written directions, even a step by step video. Acer, coolest avatar ever ~

I'm not sure if I want a picture of that, or not..... Nah, I dont...... But I did get an email, for what its worth.
  14. Appreciate all the smoking fast replys ! Tony, How'd you get a picture of my gun, before I even had a chance to mangle it ? For the other smiths, February is not as bad as I expected, I might even have that much patience. But, Nalioth, if thats an invitation, I am ordering parts and grabbing the keys! I drive around 3,300 miles a week for work, Houston is right down the road !
