  1. Good job man. Your last pic looked good. Pics of it completed? I said I was going to do mine myself for literally YEARS... Was always to nervous to do it. I finally sent it off to be done. Since the last picture I also threaded the barrel, added a brake, and refinished it. Unfortunately I used too much tape on the scope so I have to redo that tomorrow. BTW, your pics were the reason I got the magpul handguard. Your rifle looks great! Lol, it was a hacksaw with 2 fine metal blades. The roughness came from me turning the barrel between slices instead of leaving it in one
  2. It's already been crowned, threaded, zero'd, and taken a deer. Lol. Thanks to the helpers and doubters.
  3. Butter knife. Very dull butter knife.
  4. I tried a different lapping compound to see if it was gritty enough to bite the Russian steel. Turned out good enough (for a masturbation job) for it's intended purpose.
  5. I guess after I finish re-re-re building it this weekend I'll see how it shoots. If its wonky I'll buy a crowning kit
  6. Well, Sir, I'll have you know, I actually enjoy masturbation. Dude, if you have no answer there's no reason for you to bother.
  7. Greetings everyone. Been a long time since I've posted here but I'm still a Saiga lover, though my stock is down from 3 to 1. The 1 in question is a 223 that I chopped, filed, sanded on for a couple hours today. I attempted the well document method of using brass machine screws and grinding compound for crowning. After going through 6 brass screws and out of desperation trying out a steel screw (all told at least an hour of "work") I have absolutely zero crown on my barrel. Is this a Saiga issue (harder steel/chrome lined barrel)? Or am I'm some sort of idiot? Don't answer that la
  8. Hello everyone. I'm wondering if anyone makes wood furniture that will fit the S12? I'm interested in blonde, red, and any other nicely stained wood. I've found some vendors but they all say they're made for AK 'XX', so I'm unsure if they will actually fit the S12. Thanks for any help.
  9. I know you don't want to replace the spring, but I think that will be your best option. Gregg at CSS has one for 15 bucks that works great. I had the same problem on my S12 that you described and have since replaced the springs on both my Saigas with the spring from CSS, with great results.
  10. I didn't file the spring, I filed the hole to make the diameter large enough so that the spring would actually go into it.
  11. lol, yea, but does it mean anything? *edit. One thing I notice is the disconnector spring is bigger in diameter and more stiff than the one on my S12. It wouldn't fit the tapco trigger assembly so I've been filing for about 45 minutes!
  12. Okay, gotcha. Yes, it looks like it may be a crescent, or some sort of half circle or something. There's something in it but I can't make out what it's supposed to be.
  13. I'm assuming the barrel trunnion is right before the serial number? If so, it's a triangle with an arrow pointing up. Don't know if that's Arsenal's mark or not.
