  1. thanks for the info. I almost went to the waukesha show last weekend, but was doing clean-up day work at my local range then had to work around the house...(bought my S-x39 there about 2 months ago.. Impressed to see they are that active at the shows! where you at in WI? Currently on the South Milwaukee border (The city of South Milwaukee, that is.), planning and getting ready for a move to Western CO late summer or early fall (I will NOT cross the rockies between October and April. Sold a chunk of my collection, British and American Enfields, Swedish Mausers, Russian and
  2. In the FYI category, there were a total of 9 ATF busts at the Fonf du Lac show two weeks ago, and one at the Waukesha show last Saturday. Lengthy details but it "SOUNDS" like most of the guys arrested deserved it, supposedly one selling guns off the books to guys who failed the background checks, and one in possesion of an unreistered "Street Sweeper". Most were unlicensed guys, buying and selling from the "private collectoion" table. Agent 1 sells a firearm to the table for a very low price, and 30 minutes later Agent 2 offers to buy it to fill in his collection at a 3-400% p
  3. Hmmm, Main reason I visit/post so rarely here is the abundance of opinion and the shortage of facts! This thread is too typical! I'll apologize in advance if I seem a bit harsh but I can't let some of this ignorance stand. BTW, before someone starts the "bigot" "redneck" and "racist" epithets. I'll point out that my experience with the Hmong people goes back 50 years, both in Asia and here. I spent the last 6 years of my working life as an instructor, training Hmong immigrants for employment. And yes, some of my closest friends and all that. Here are a few facts to consid
  4. Hmmm ............ Where to start! From News accounts and friends in the area (including LEO) here's what happened. (Short version) A: Vang is comfortably settled in a private blind tree stand, on private Land. (I do not know how elaborate this tree stand was, but my brother-in-law in his late '70's , has one with glass windows, kerosens heater and a propane stove in it. Very warm and more like a cabin on stilts, comfy!, I have seen a few that were extremly fancy, Bar, etc.) B. Mid-day, people who own and have permission are scouting the territory on ATV's. Commo
  5. Ummm ... Lee H. Oswald wasn't much of a shot with an M-1 either. He never qualified over USMC Marksman (185-219 out of 250 in those days, including 500 yards.) Used to see him in the Coffee shop at the El Toro Tower, a couple of times a week. Don't recall we ever spoke though. Always found it interesting that he worked Air Traffic Control at a base that serviced U-2's on a fairly regular basis. Then he moved to Russia, came back and killed a President. Always found that to be just a tad hard to swallow. Our security checks always seemed more thorough than that, to
  6. Good question, I wondered the same at first. i have and use Saiga's in .223, 7.62x39, 20 gauge and 12 gauge. As I already own several AK clones, (Hungarian, Bulgarian, Norinco and russian [Vepr]) I bought the Saiga's to use specifically as hunting guns. I find personally that the stock Saiga points better and is on target faster than with a pistiol grip, also I've found 30 round magazines to be a PITA in thick brush or woods, always hanging up on something, and making noise. Shoot them quite a bit and I've never had a complaint about the factory magazines. very satisfied and
  7. I bought what EAA said was the last 4, about a month or so ago for $35.00 each. You might check CDNN. they may have a few left. Pretty much expect them to be in short supply until the new importer gets going. Some people were saying late March, but the russians are known for being extremely slow to deal with, and then there's the U.S. permit process. Thats why others are saying end of the year if we're lucky. Sorry, just checked with CDNN, nothing in .223, some 7.62x39 left! Good Luck!
  8. You might check and see if Wally at Badger Sports, on 43rd in W. Milwaukee can get you one. He got me one for $350.00 about a year ago, that was a good price for a dealer at that time! The real problem in getting one is that EAA shut off the pipeline, they will be hard to get untill there is a new importer. Milwaukee area dunham's have never stocked the 12's. or the .308's. to my knowledge! Good luck!
  9. Bvamp, sorry for being a little slow, I don't understand what this is in reference to! If it's about citizenship, citizenship is not a requirement for Military service, neither Regular nor NG. Little known that non-citizens can be and have been drafted also. Regards
  10. If you read the Police report, you did read the perp's side of the story. And the only survivor able to make a statement at the time. The only rifle at the scene except Vang's ihas been in police custody since the shooting and forensics Lab has already been checked it for recent firing. Also the survivors and the deceased were tested to see if they'd recently fired a firearm. The result of those tests will be made public at the trial. This trial willl be a real hot potato here, the governor and our very own Attorney General (Wrecked 3 state vehicles while driving drunk in her
  11. Well ...napoleon does make a valid point re: police reports. Fact is I have never seen one that was 100 % correct in every minute detail. And I've seen a lot of them. But, in the main, anything dealing with Homicide or other high profile events is accurate in any details that matter. And it's always double checked by supervisors for accuracy! For purposes of our discussion it is the only factual document availible to us! It's wise to not confuse offhand comments made by individual officers and siezed on by zealous reporters, or rumours you heard at work with the offical Rep
  12. Thanks for the kind words j-man and Cobra 76 two! Cobra 76 two, yes a lot of people do not realize that you MUST protect your property and it's borders, or else you lose it. Based on old English law. If you do allow all and sundry to use your private pond, you have created public property. Minor variations in local jurisdictions. Same reason that if you live on a corner lot, you do not allow people to cut accross your lawn ... it isn't about the appearence of the lawn. Yeah, awful long for a first post wasn't it? Actually ...... I've been lurking here (and learning) for a couple o
  13. I'm really biting my tongue here! Here is where you can find the Police report! http://www.startribune.com/style/ne...hooting1123.pdf A few other facts. Wisconsin has a very tough Trespass law, essentially, if you drive up someones driveway to ask permission ... you are trespassing. No Signs need to be posted. If you are on land not your own without a written permission, any Law enforcement of DNR Officer can arrest you. The fine is very heavy. The "Hunters" all dressed in blaze orange, came up to Vang on ATV's. Extremly illegal to have an uncased weapon on any motor driven
