  1. They have different bore sizes, too. 7.62x39 is .311, which would be oversized in a .308 bore.
  2. Hey Rhodes, did you ever revisit this particular project? Do you think the SGM polymer rail would be less likely to "stick" in that torqued position?
  3. Did you ever take any pictures, Rhodes? This is exactly what I'm wanting, a Beryl style mount with an AR style peep, without spending a fortune on a Krebs.
  4. Is it legal to have a "rebuild kit" shipped to you, and pin it yourself before assembly? Copes Distributing charges $1 to disassemble a mag and turn it into a rebuild kit.
  5. IIRC, these are built on a Browning BAR action. A friend of mine has one, it's a really nice rifle and shoots very accurately. But, I still opted for the $500 Saiga. Check the price on the magazines before you go buy one.
  6. OK, so it's been awhile, and you are at least back in production if not caught up. Do you have any idea when you'll be able to look at a .308 magwell project again? I still find the idea intriguing, and I'd love to be able to use, say, Magpul SR25 mags in my Saiga...
  7. Saigas have (I believe) a 90 degree gas port (drilled at a right angle to the bore), whereas most AKs have a 45 degree port. That may be what you're seeing... you may need to drill a new port in that block to get it to work.
  8. The Saigas that attracted ATF attention didn't just have the "Y stamp", they had the hole drilled. The F-Troop deemed them to be "machine guns", which is why they got their panties in a wad.
  9. Forget the front sight... what rear sight is that?
  10. That's exactly what I was going to suggest, and I believe the height is adjustable with the slots on the "pignose". Julian
  11. Doesn't surefire make a 10rd mag? Or is it that you want the look of a 20/25rd magazine?
  12. Is your rifle "converted"? Is this your problem: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=11427
  13. I don't know about other RPKs, but Yugo RPKs are .904" at the handguard retainer. See: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=26419

Guys, it's a fuckin AK... if it chokes on steel cased ammo, there's something wrong. Since it's brand new, clean it really good, then lube it well. If that doesn't solve the problem, try the stock mag. If that doesn't solve it, contact CGW for warranty work.
  15. Stabilization is actually based on RPM, not specifically twist rate. Bullet RPM is a function of both twist rate and velocity, so a 20" barrel needs "less" twist than a 16", or conversely a longer barrel can stabilize a heavier/longer bullet(assuming the increase in barrel length increases the velocity).
