  1. Does anyone have experience with "Herter's .308 Win. Ammunition with Dry-Box"? Where is it made? Any good? At $339.99 per thousand, it seems a good deal. Cabela's has it on sale.
  2. I just finished converting mine and am by no means the guy to go to. But if you want, PM me and I'll do what I can to help answer questions. Really not that hard but a few tips may help.
  3. Okay, I said I'd post it. Nothing spectacular here. But it was fun. If I get another one, I'd like to video it for other handicaps like myself. Tapco T6 stock, Saw PG, Tapco handguard w/ 3 rails, Dinzag FCG. Thanks for the help, guys. Also, any ideas on sling mounts for this Tapco handguard? That is one big hole! BTW, I took four kids (two of my own) to the Appleseed shoot in Midland, TX this weekend. I was impressed. Instructors were excellent, professional, with lots of class. And I thought I learned how to shoot in boot camp and other schools. If you ever get the opportu
  4. Looks good to me, Mav. I like the stock, but bought the Tapco T6...hmmm, could put that on the .223....... I think I'm close to getting mine done. Gonna touch up with some paint and put him together. Really busy this week, maybe get it done this weekend. I'll wait for your experience with the FSB.
  5. I had already ordered a TriggerGuard when I was showed how easy it is to use the original. Might as well use it. Coming in by Wednesday I hope. I can save you the wait though. Look at the Tapco flash banner, and you'll see what it looks like. Without the foregrip. I know...doesn't count. I'll put it up when done. Probably next weekend.
  6. When I said "got 'er done", I meant the tear down. Give me some time and will post a pic. This is just a utility rifle, nothing near as nice as I've seen of all yours. But, as time goes by, I"m sure it's gonna go through some mutations. We will see what today holds... Thanks, Brothers... (and I heard there may be a sis or two out there!)
  7. Got 'er done! Big thanks to RenegadeBuck, Mav and Noob308. This is a great Forum with great folks. Now the rest is downhill...and then the .223
  8. I know this is asking a lot, but I was wondering if anyone out there would be willing to help me out through PMing or even a brief phone call with my .308 conversion. I got Dinzag's G2 FCG, retaining plate, Saw PG w/ nut, T6 stock and Handguard w/ rails. Got enough to get the job, just not as smart as I thought I was. Getting the pins out is giving me fits. Thanks for any help.
  9. A friend and I are looking to convert two Saiga .308s, and two .223s. Also a two FCGs for a couple WASR-10s. Any suggestions for a one stop store for everything we need? Perhaps a "My preferred list" anyone? This is a new endeavor, but we plan on everything except for maybe the muzzle break later. Suggestions for which FCG would be appreciated. This is a great forum, people. Thanks for all the help given past, present and future.
  10. Okay, here's my Samco experience. Ordered 1K early Feb. Got it in with bug crap on BPs and holes in 'em. Opened two up and found corrosion like everybody. Called up and they sent UPS to pick it up. Today I got my "hand picked" replacement in. Now only one BP with a tiny hole in it and the packs were all clean. Opened two BPs and had some corrosion on both. The one with the hole had the most, but not near as bad as first shipment. The second one I opened had some, almost negligible. Conclusion: They must have a bunch of the stuff that is bad, and sending it out hoping people don't bother with
  11. Interesting tidbit. I got curious about what the "FNM" on the Portuguese ammo meant. Looking it up on acronym websites I found: "What does FNM stand for? Fábrica Nacional de Motores (Brazilian truck/motor company))" So, the Port ammo doesn't come from Portugal. It comes from Brazil where the language is Portuguese. Still, if the stuff is good...?
  12. I am trying to buy some cheap, but normal .308 ammo for my SAIGA .308 and do not want to spend 1$ per round or even 60cents per one. Does anyone know any good web sites where to look? I used Silver Bear .308, I liked it a lot, but it is 9.50$ per box of 20..kind of pricy if I go shooting to the range every 2 weeks and want to shoot put 4 boxes.. any suggestions? Here is a good link for "The cheapest 7.62x51mm Surplus on the internet". http://www.rifle-company.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=431
  13. Newbie here. Just got in 1,000 rounds, Port. Nato 7.62x51 ammo from Samco. Opened one BP, and one box. 13 out of 20 rnds have corrosion from as much as 20% and less. Is this normal for Milsurp? Any suggestions on removing it? Thanks for any help.
