  1. I put a poly choke on mine for that very reason and have been testing it a bit. I have tried patterning the shot and making the choke adjustments but I see no difference in any of the polychoke settings. Hopefully the local skeet range will let me in for a shoot.
  2. mine ran rough for the first few hundred rounds but I was using birdshot on the lowest setting. Sometimes a FTE and others a FTF. I was a little disapointed but an old smith told me a trick to try ... get a Q-tip and smear some engine valve lapping compound on the offending parts of the slide and surfaces it contacts. Work that slide at least two hundred times trying to get it to smooth out. I found that the largest drag component on the bolt is the hammer so I put some on that too. I cleaned it all up and it indeed was smoother. Runs like a timex watch now. Bolt and reciever contact po
  3. The S-12 did not run too good when new so I tried a few things. An old smith advised me to break it in by using a q-tip to put some valve lapping compound on the offending parts. I did just that, cycled it a few hundred times, cleaned it all up and went to the range. That seemed to help a lot. Tried the "gunfixer" plug and that was about worthless. Getting ready to do the mod now, hopefully it will go well. Any tips and advice greatly appreciated.
  4. Earlier, you guys helped me out with my bolt jamming problem. Want you all to know that I got it fixed. A friend advised me to coat the bolt surfaces and reciever serfaces with valve lapping compound then work the bolt several hundred times. IT WORKED!! I cleaned it all up put it together and it runs MUCH better now. I ran 4 boxes of low brass on the #2 setting but the high brass ran far better and perfect on the #1 setting. Isn't that what we are supposed to do? ... run the mags on #1? One area of possible improvement I think, could be the hammer. It seems to make the largest contr
  5. Well, when I first got my S-12 I had a few issues and many of you advised me and it helped. I had a problem chambering rounds and the bolt would often stick. I got that issue cleared up and I will share with you what I did to "smooth things out". I noticed that as the bolt tried to turn and enter the reciever base on closure, it sometimes stuck. A old "smithy" advised me to lube up the bolt and reciever contact area with valve lapping compound and work the bolt back and forth several hundred times. Originally, I laughed but I had to do something so that's what I did. The stuff was lik

Hello everyone. I stumbled across this forum after just purchasing my 19" S-12 last night. I had been looking for one for months, even before November, 2008 but could not find one. A local shop had just gotten five of them in this week so I snagged one and two of the 10 round promags. I am in hopes that this S-10 will be a "rock & roller" that I will enjoy shooting. I will do a little skeet and perhaps casual deer hunting. My only other shotgun is a Remington 1100 that I have had for over 30 years. That old Rem has NEVER failed me despite being dropped in the river a couple
