  1. I don't think the actual cost of shipping is the main shipping problem... the problem is that it is "acceptable" in our society to charge considerably more for "shipping & handling" than that. Paying for the box is one thing, but many venders also include the price of paying someone (an employee?) to ship your item and also shift other costs into "shipping and handling". Personally, I think it is dishonest, and am quite annoyed when I pay $7 shipping and it gets to my house with a $1.19 stamp on it. There isn't much people can do to change the system I guess.... since everyone ac
  2. Not enough to warrant buying a new gun. It's like buying a brand new car to get a little better gas milage.
  3. I am almost you. My first rifle was a ruger 10/22, first real rifle was a Saiga .223 then two months later I got the Saiga 7.62x39. The bottom line for me is that I love them all, but if I could only have one it would be the 7.62x39. Bigger holes and more recoil = more fun to shoot in my opinion. I bought 10 romanain steel mags for $10 each, which is the benifit you mentioned. At the time I got the .223 I thought that I would only own one rifle, so I wanted one with plenty of available american ammo, and all of the practical perks of .223. Looking back on it now, I enjoy the 7.62
  4. Superhawk, could you give some details/pics on how you made your bolt on one please? Anyone else have clever ideas to make these cheaply?
  5. Now this is a true Saiga Forums response. I am ashamed I did not come up with it. Get one in .223 and one in 7.62x39 (worked for me!).
  6. The Tapco G2 trigger group is dirt cheap and soooooo much noticably better than the stock trigger. The conversion process is also "fun" if you are into that kind of thing. These are two reasons why I recommend turning your AK back into an AK.
  7. I too would like to know how some of you guys make those slots in the forend so straight and lined up.
  8. I got a 6x42 POSP from Kalinka Optics for my Saiga. They shipped it fast and it looks to be in great condition, very sturdy scope.. made in Belarus.. I haven't taken it to the range yet. I struggled a lot over 4x vs 6x but it was only $20 more to get the 6x and you can still use the iron sights with it mounted (though its not comfortable) so I went ahead and went with the 6x. If i get a dragonuv some day I can always transfer it to that.. I just felt like 6x gave me more options. Do i need a 1000 meter range finder and 6x scope ? no, but it sure is cool/fun
  9. You can't really "mess up" anything... I broke a tap off in my trunion which is probably the worst thing you can do in the whole process... and it wasn't really any trouble to grind it out with a $7 dremel tool set. The hardest part is deciding to do it.
  10. Please read this post: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=41382 Short answer is your promags (with tab broken off) will work (as much as promags will work..) one you install a bullet guide (homemade or bought from dinzag). Some people claim if you file down and bevel that promag tab before using it that it will not break. Mine broke anyways after filing it down and beveling it....
  11. See my post Saiga Conversion that ANYONE can do for $82.48. The only other thing you would need is a bullet guide (made, or bought from dinzag). Those are about the cheapest conversion parts, but you could also opt for a prettier k-var stock and stil come out under that $200. AND you would have the satisfaction of doing it yourself my friend There are lots of people here to help if you run into problems.
  12. I like that they are made in Russia. That means a lot to me for the 2nd Kind of Cool for my AK.
  13. First, yes I have removed the bolt carrier...and I don't blame you for asking! Second, yes I have removed both the rear screw and the screw holding the forward sling mount. I appreciate you following up and asking. You don't have to remove the sling swivel screw, only the rear one to remove the handguard (I just did it a few minute ago). Use a piece of wood and hammer and tap the back edge I was talking about with the barrel facing down into the carpet. Tap lightly and it will shake loose. This was a hard part for me too my first time.
