Strikes me that such a system would be good for base defense also, though likely a bit out of your scope.

TBH, I like the saiga build better than the full custom build. Would love to know if it'd work with the MD-20 drums though. Awesome ep.
Did find Will chucking out Vince et all but keeping a cameraman around to be a bit silly. I'm guessing a trick with editing?

I recently bought a compact 4x32 for my 16"er. I am using a low-rise sidemount for it, and am curious if anyone has recomendations on what distance to sight it in at? I was thinking 150 or 175 yards.
-
TBH, I want to see more Saigas on the show. I know that they're kinda boring compared to a Mk19 or the like, but they're what I cut my gun-mod teeth on.
Bring on a select fire s12 or even better, a select fire compensated s.308.
(or get your hands on one of the 30-06s and make everyone on the board envious.)

Honestly I'm just wondering how hard a barrel swap would be? Kreiger match grade barrels are quite affordable.
-
. . . and he wants a long-range built .308. Anyone selling one presently?

What is more amusing is that his mother is quite "anti" largely due to her daddy being from chicago. She'd never expressed much interest in guns aside from understanding they'd be necissary for her chosen job (park ranger). I got her a 9mm handgun after there was a stabbing next door, and offered to teach her gun safety and basic handgun marksmanship, and she was enthusiastic at the time. I also left her with a locking gun case, two combination locks (With different combo) a trigger and an action lock on the gun, just because I knew she had a toddler in the house.
Seems her father FLIPPED. Despite the various locks and safety devices, he was CERTAIN the kiddo would get into the gun and go on a murderous 17 state rampage.
She was anti-gun after that.
Her son won't be.

I emailed her from outside her district.
Sadly no reply.

50 round double-stack banana mag from the hotlips/steellips people. (Butler creek, iirc?) Never had one single failure with 'em, despite over 2k rounds through 'em.

Took my 7yo godson out to the range. That is a 50 round magazine out of my 10/22 as quick as he could pull the trigger. He was scared of guns before the trip, now not so much. He knows the 4 rules backwards and forwards, and observed good safety all day.
WTG Loch!

Depending on the scenerio, either my .22 matchking (accurate little bugger) for taking game, a doublestack tokarev that doesn't exist, for being, well, silly ballistics wise, or my 10mm for stopping big game.
-
I brought my new Yugo Tokarev m-57 out, and my Tanfoglio 10mm.
My friend brought out his recently inherited 1958 era single action only ruger 7" barreled 44 magnum revolver. (first time out with it)
To start out with, my Tokarev is amazingly easy to shoot. Least recoil of any centerfire I've ever fired. It is also the least accurate. It was chronying out at 1550fps with the Romanian milsurp. At 6c a shot, I'm going to try to resolve the accuracy issues.
My Tanfoglio is having issues with magazine reliability. From what I've read this is due to the paint on the inside of the magazines, paint that is progressively chipping off as I use 'em. From what I've read, once all the paint is out of the inside of the magazines they'll be 100% reliable. OTOH it is quite accurate, and fairly easy to fire. The recoil isn't bad at all. My sheepdog 185gr ammo was chronying around 1250fps. Despite the magazine reliability issue, the 10mm is my most fun handgun.
I put 5 full power bear loads through the .44 What a beast. To start out with, I HATE the ergonomics on it. The trigger is too close to the grip, and IMO just laid out poorly. Was nice and accurate, but the recoil was muleish. The gun is freakishly heavy, with all of the weight in front of the grip which was already uncomfortable. I think I am officially an Automatic person. My dislike for the gun was surprising, considering how much of an accuracy nut I am.

Gun Runners, here in Anchorage.

I still get a chuckle at the "Don't try this at home" bit. Given that many of the people here on the board have done at least a conversion. . .
What I would most like to see on the show? An s12 with an underfolder and an MD20 drum.
-
Just ordered a hard chrome m-57 and 3 spare magazines. Have a source for milsurp ammo up here in AK AK land, so everything is good.
-
I'm quite tempted by a B locally. Folds up tighter than the C, stores a magazine in the stock. Would be my first .223, a caliber I'm not particularly fond of. Is a bit mousefart IMO, but I consider the SU-16 to be among the best survival style rifles in the world.
And you can't beat Kel-tec's lifetime warrentee

Nice to see one of "the club"
Now if they could put Dinzag and Mike in front of the camera.

Nothing to see here but us duplicate posts

I hear you. That is one of the things I like about Alaska, is generally people are quite willing and happy to help if needs be. I've picked up stranded motorists on occasion, much to the terror of one of my friends. (You simply don't leave someone stranded 100 miles from the nearest services.)

Used to be that whenever someone/some website asked me what I did for a hobby, I responded with the typical, hunt/hike/camp/beat my buddies with a big stick(SCA, lol).
But the more I look back, the more I realize that most everything in my past(hobbies and occupations) all tend to incorporate themselves into Survival/Preparedness in some way or another. So now when I'm asked "What do you do for fun?" I find myself relpying with "Prepare for SHtF/End o' the World" or some such. generally the worst I get is an odd look, some people get really intrigued and ask more. I think there is a growing apprehension, even among the typical sheeple of the world.
I actually enjoy running through various scenarios in my head and discussing it all with other like minded folks. While the topic has been growing in acceptance, esp now that the .gov has sort of endorsed it, I think listing it as a hobby on facebook, etc, should be our next step.
Just a few stray thoughs... YMMV
There is a definate trend of people seeing the bottom dropping out fast. The problem is that there are so many different bottoms dropping out in so many different ways it can be problematic to prepare for them all. I mean how do you prepare for longer, harder hurricane seasons? Harsher El Ninos? More and stranger tornados? Massive monozygotic crop failure due to insufficient genetic diversity of staple crops?
There are so many potential problems in the future that it is difficult to seperate the wheat from the chaff. The scenerios you prepare for tend to reflect your own biases and worldview. (For example, my mom is the biz manager for a major environmental research institute. I tend to get a lot of global warming doom and gloom from her. OTOH she does actively encourage California to fall into the ocean. . .)

In truth there is only one honest, valid answer for this question.
Violin case Thompson.

Had something similar happen to me when I was living in fairbanks. I was sitting at my computer, annoying people on the XDtalk boards when I hear some loud cracking from the woods outside my apartment. I literally DIVE into the hallway, and *WHAM* the tallest tree on the property crashed into my room, right above where my computer was set up. . .
. . . But alaskans build tough, and it merely dented the absurdly strong support beams for the roof. No broken anything, merely a tree engulfing my apartment.

Flash hider? Umm. . . shouldn't all the powder already have burned before the round exits the barrel?
-
You started back-peddling so fast I'm surprised you didn't fly over the handle-bars.
No backpedaling. It is a response to you completely missing the point, which you still are. Tranq darts, as seen in numerous naturalist shows, were brought up BY MY COWORKER as the ideal self defense weapon.
They aren't. They take too long to go into effect, there are large percentages of people with allergies/adverse reactions to whatever aneshtesia is in them, large percentages of people with tolerances toward them, plus the issue with dosing.
Any dose that is likely to bring ANY intruder down quick enough to be useful, is likely to be over the LD50 for most of the population. I don't understand why you are even arguing about this, other than an attempt to make you look clever.
This is why I live in Alaska.

All photos aside from the moose and elk taken with a Nikon D80 with a 200-400mm Tamron f5.6 lens. (well, the aircraft and Denali pictures were taken with a Sigma 10-20mm ultrawide)
