  1. The reason the left hand charging handle/tube work so well on the HK varieties is because there is no gas system (direct blowback). If dirt or debri gets in the cocking tube it won't effect it's ability to fire. The problem(s) I see with this new concept... The gas tube area is wide open, and would funnel water, dirt, etc directly in to your action and/or the gas port into your bore. Even on an AK, that's a problem. The new charging handle reciprocates with the bolt carrier and piston.. as has been discussed. Free to catch on anything and everything. As so far as I can see in the desi
  2. I just picked one up with a full choke, have it mounted, but haven't had a chance to try it out. Looks like a really well made piece, and low profile. A guy by the name of AKblue has done some pattern comparisons, and they were enough to sell me on it. I like the versatility of being able to use Win. pattern chokes.. pretty much means you can put any kind of choke in it. And it doesn't look as goofy (imo) as the Polychoke.
  3. Dam.. those CAA grips aren't U.S. made? Where do they come from?
  4. How are the 6 piece Command Arms grips?? ATI Strikeforce Grips? Other? Gathering parts for my conversion and looking for opinions. Thanks!
  5. Same here... my hands aren't 'porn star' big, but the stock works fine as is. You must have freakishly small hands! I sold my wood stocked, trigger set back version for the thumbhole version and I like the thumbhole version a lot better. Chaps... that rifle looks nice with the Vepr furniture. Does it take some weight off the rifle?
  6. So far as I know all the V21's have angle cut receivers. I actually like the original thumb hole stock as is.. and my hands aren't huge or anything. Compared to a Romanian type stock it's wayyyy comfy. If I was going to convert it, I wouldn't go altering the original stock... who knows when/if you'll see them brought in again.
  7. I would think .308 would have the edge if for no other reason than a greater selection of quality ammo.
  8. I actually just returned mine to CFS for an exchange due to a canted gas block... as a consequence of that they chipped away at the handguard to fit it. You couldn't see it from the outside (other than the cant) but the inside of the HG where they altered it (the factory, I'm assuming) looked like crapola. Stock fitting didn't seem as nice compared to my EAA import woody.. but maybe I just got a lemon all around. All that aside, the wood was nicely finished and it felt much more natural to me over the monte carlo type stock and lever-like trigger. Can't wait to get my replacement. One th

    Going rate Q's...

That's a big price difference... is that east coast vs west? North vs south? Whereabout are you guys?
  10. Can anybody tell me the going rate on a brand new Saiga .308-1 with the 21", wood furniture (monte carlo type stock, etc)?? Thanks!
  11. I've been checking out the skeleton stocks now available... but am wondering how much these affect your trigger pull? The standard, unconverted trigger kind of levers up which would seem to give the wood stock an advantage in that you can squeeeeze it up between your finger and thumb with some control. Looks like the skeleton stock would tend to make you pull the trigger more straight back. So... you guys with the skeleton stock.... how does it feel? How does it compare? I have a wood stocked version right now and am kind of scratching my head about whether or not a skeleton stock would be an
  12. ..well that's just it. When first started looking at it, the first question out of my mouth was 'is it new or used?'. New he says. I'm looking at it, see some wear on the charging handle... 'are you sure it's new and not used?'... he asked the other guy there, turns out it's used. To be fair, I feel it was an honest mistake, I don't think he was chiseling me. So I ask if it comes with anything... sling, extra mags.... nope, he says.. no extra mags. I give it back to him, and as he's putting it back in the rack I noticed that oh so familiar brown arsenal paper surrounding a mag.. sure enough, a
  13. Ok.... I see a .223 Saiga, lightly used, comes with extra mag for $321 otd. Seems kind of high to me. Is it just me? Kinda want one... but not like I neeeeeed it, want it. What to do? Comments welcome.
