  1. I am interested to know how you think that trigger compares when you finish.
  2. Yeah, the place where I bought mine had surefire forends on the shelf, but the gun on display was unconverted with a surefire 12 round in it. He mentioned nothing about 922r and tried to sell me the 12 rounder for $75. He also did not remember that the sale tag lowered the price by $150 until I looked at the reciept (fortunately before he ran it throught the old style credit card machine.) Only 1 other place in town sells them, and he sells the high cap mags and no conversion parts.
  3. Yes, but it feels like it is or should be a factory part. It is enough wider that it locates solidly around the radius where the bottom of the receiver is stamped. It does not feel like it protrudes, or is some tacked on part. I don't notice that it is wider, but when I look at it for that, it is about 3/32nds wider on each side than the body of the reciever. This is about the actual thickness of the magwell sides (not counting the flare) It does not stick out enough to be a snag, or to feel if you were carrying the shotgun duty style with a sling across your chest. Someone handling a sa
  4. Also. Nice left side cocking setup Z34. Anything you would do differently?
  5. Armored-- Thanks for the nice pics. I think my forward reverse fit is pretty good. There is a little right and left play that I don't like. I too was considering Epoxy. What kind did you use? If I were offering any tips that I figured out it would be to radius the corners on the front of the mag as you fit it a little more than you remmove material off of the front. For mine when fit the way mr. Travers said, if the front of the mag was completely square with sharp corners as I removed material the corners would hit The radiuses of the receiver/magwell before the broad flat area. if I remo
  6. As for the drum, with these, why do you need one? This just offers more fire power. Also you can make it drum ready in about 30 seconds with an allen wrench, so if you have the cash and the desire there is no downside.
  7. Just got mine. I plan to make some pictures after I try it out. I have several mags fit per instructions and a talk with Mr. Travers. It seems like a solid and possibly stronger way to support the mag. It is absolutely faster and easier, but sometimes I still hang up a little. That might be just a bit more tailoring on the mags, but expirimentation will tell. There is some side to side play that is annoying, but not significant enough to effect feeding. It just rattles a little. I think it makes the gun massively better, and I think I like the gun better this way than I would with a drum. I c
  8. I am interested in the answer too. I am assuming the answers are based on an Ace hinge. I have plans for a custom made side folder that looks like it will use one of those at the moment. It would help a lot If someone were to take pictures from above with a ruler held at the hinge and at the buttpad when the thing is folded forward. I know a lot of people think it is stupid to have an optic mount on a shottie, but it is very nice for slugs, and alot of people hunt turkey and deer with a scope like the one I have. I think it is fun to use, and I would like the stock to clear. Pics with
  9. thanks for doing this. I didn't want that one, but it is a very nice thing to do.
  10. Post- primarily it can be fun. I am an avid paintball player, and it always amazes me how many trained military men who know how to handle real guns, lock up the first few times a paintball whizzes close enough to hear the zing. They just hide for a while while you psych 'em out and flank them. The ballistics and recoil, etc are totally different, but no amount of practice in marksmanship with your real gun does what getting shot at and looking for a good angle to shoot back. You learn real fast whether you are visible or not, or whether you are using cover effectively. If something is st
  11. The 10/22 actually extracts by inertia. the extractor is only for when you are manually racking the bolt.(to unload the gun or clear a dud) Use a hotter cartridge clean a little better in the chamber, or reduce your main spring a little.(there are a lot of options for aftermarket springs) It is a very common problem. I can say that some of the aftermarket extractors grab better, (I have a titanium power customs one in one of mine) but it is the speed of the rearward travel of the bolt getting out of the way while there is still pressure that ejects the shell, not the extractor yanking it out.
  12. Thanks guys.Hope it helps The sad thing is that I don't even hunt.(save for a bit of marine varminting and some pest control around the old place.) I have always been in Alaska fishing while they were doing the required hunter's safety classes. I haven't fished the last couple of years, but something always came up on the weekends they were offered. I am thinking I would at least like to go in for pheasant and turkey. I can practically trip over quail around here too. It's just that I kept thinking about ways to put something inside the spring stack to do this job, and everything I th
  13. Too cheap to order a 2 shot mag for your saiga 12 so you can hunt with it? Forgot to order one in time? Like the look and feel of the OEM? It just feels wrong to spend $33 plus shipping for a surefire, and more for an Izzy (when available) Here is a simple plug I made in a few minutes for mine out of 1x2 pine. I tested it in both an Izzy and a keep shooting. It fits snugly and doesn't rattle. It has room for insertion on a closed bolt, but not enough for an additional round. I made it in 2 pieces so that I can make it a 3 shot, by ditching the top piece. The wood goes between the s
  14. You know. I had about the same level of frustration as the OP. I even started a saiga glossary to post here, that I haven't had time to finish. maybe I will kill some time soon and put that up if people are interested

    talk me into it

Posty - Yeah, I do. I have been fabbing stuff for boats and my last job was building machinery. I am not amazingly talented, but I can do what I have in mind if I don't rush things. I think I can build something cooler for probably less money than an off the shelf part, and I know that the customness would ultimately make me happier. It just got pushed back a few months because a guy here sold me several mags and a JT magwell for about the price of the mags. It was something I planned to get or make anyway, so I could not pass up the deal. I would still like to take whack at making a mag
  16. The tappet works as advertised, he shipped it very promptly. I would recommend it to any one with a slightly undergassed gun.
  17. straightforward transaction. Good product.
  18. I am definitely gonna try this next chance I get. That sounds awesome!
  19. put a block of wood between the spring guide and the floor plate for an easy way.
  20. I personally could not agree with you more. Although... the particular specimen you've provided via the photbucket.com link appears to me to be a shroud that I've seen quite often used for paintball guns. Hmmmm.... So what. Aluminum is aluminum, andLapco for instance puts more quality and precision into their workmanship than a lot of gun manufacturers do. (way more than is practical)I have no doubt that any of their aesthetic accessories is more than well built enough for this purpose. The guy machines everything from billet and is fanatical about concentricity and anodizing quali
  21. While fishing one summer in alaska, our ancient 10/22 quit working. I figured out the firing pin had become worn down on the primer end, and made one out of the steel from a skill saw blade to hold me over until I could order a factory one. Wasn't hard to make, but due to the wear, I didn't know how long it should be to start with. So I gave it a little extra length with the intention of trying it and filing down a hair if it was too long. I checked that everything seemed to do it's job right and hand cycled it a couple of times. Then I put in a loaded mag of really old ammo, and slingshotted
  22. The jail I I work at just got a bunch of those with short barrels, but I think their purchase of guns has more to do with budgeting, insurance and politics than with the best gun. If you have a better gun, insurers don't want to offer good rates, because they are not a known quantity. you know, all of that stuff about "the evil that you know"... They don't necessarily buy the best gun for the best shooter, they buy the gun least likely to cause expensive problems in the hands of whoever the worst Corrections Officer is. They only allow a choice of 4 handguns and the one they supply is the lea
  23. Yeah, Mr Fixr. When is that going on the market? I am very curious to know 1) will it reliably cycle both very heavy and very light loads 2) what will it cost and 3) when can I have one? I had one of his current model plugs slated for my next round of wasting money upgrade purchasing. It would suck to buy that 3 weeks before he releases a self regulating system. From the teasers, it sounded like you had to initially set a lower and maybe upper gas setting to your gun and it was automatic after that. That sounds just fine to me. between a self regulating plug, a magwell, ds mag an
  24. Impressive video: It convinces me that when burying my Kalashnikovs, I need to put the safety on. Did you do one with 7.62? Still, I want a left side charging handle. someone just needs to come up with a good solution to the slot it leaves. I think gunfixr made a good version that accomplished that, so why cant someone commercially?
  25. wow. That is exactly what i want to do. will you share a good starting recipe for a tightwad who just got his first reloading setup?
