Build 2 IZ 108 Updated
This is my second build. It is intended to be classic looking along the lines of an AK 74.
I am keeping this one light and simple.
Also as cheap as possible.
Specs.
EAA IZ 108. -- You will hate me if you know how little I paid.
MD flash hider -$30 @ MAA
Factory Trigger guard
Refinished Bulgarian AK74 wood -- from Markw1 ~$65 couldn't look nicer I modified it to fit on the S-12.
I like the 108 sight so I am happy to leave off the Upper Hand Guard.
Modified Bulgarian retainer -- Markw1 $12
G2 Double hook modified for pre-travel and over-travel polished--30 @ MAA
Tapco metal PG nut & Ugly Saw grip-- traded
Tapco puck for compliance $8 @ MAA
Homemade floor plates for Factory fives. --$0
(stupid ATF update on parts count messed me up)
I currently have 2 buttplates: one pretty Bulgarian, and a second one with a no name Sorbethane pad bonded to it with urethane.($8) Guess which one is more comfortable?
Now has Dinzag high type front site which was un finished. I chose to tap it for AR site post so it has a tritium front site.
I have also added a krebs style tab to the safety.
About the only things left are:
extend the mag release,
make a matching walnut PG,
profile the bolt just because,
maybe tune to run ultra weak ammo and regulate w/ autoplug.

Safety Mod Updated
Link to this in Action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jzCYM_erPE
I made a couple more safety tabs today. One of them belongs to "YeOldTool"
If I am not stopping to take pictures and I already have the tools out, this is maybe 15- 20 minutes per.
I maybe spent an hour to make two of these this time.
You can add a notch to the lever ala Krebs if desired. I have a nifty thing called a BHO that does a better job and doesn't leave my receiver open to the elements.

Tac47 Autoplug GF Magnum Edition Mark 1.5 Updated
So, you may think me a fool for doing this, but long ago it occurred to me that the AutoPlug upside down is equivalent to other adjustable plugs in the off "0" position with a bonus pressure relief valve. What I suspect I want is an "0.5" setting or maybe an "0.75" There is plenty of meat on that plug to make it. Let's get to modding!
Backstory:
The Autoplug is almost perfect.Almost.
I love how the autoplug eliminates a mistake you can make, and I love that I don't have to play nanny when friends use my gun to make sure they have the right setting for the load. I don't like giving up the versatility of 3" mags.
I came up with a couple ways of making an improved piston and vent mechanism to the autoplug's poppet valve which could vent gas more rapidly at a higher pressure threshold, but I don't have the time tools or licenseing to do that. I did decide to try my luck right from the get go.
Initial autoplug testing befor e mods:
I found that Winchester 3" magnum 15 pellet OOB such as you get at wallmart ran on the weak side of perfectly with the plug upside down. Shells kick out about 2.5-3 feet 100% of the dozen or so tested. Remington equivalent would eject weakly about 6/10 times.
I did find that running the Remington shells on the auto setting with a buffer seemed to be OK.
One or two of the winchester shells caused the rebound failure this way when attempted. They were ejecting harder than I would want to do for more than a few tests.
So that lead to attempting the half measure shown here: Tac47 Autoplug GF Magnum Edition Mark 1.5
Incorporate a very shallow groove ala gunfixxer knob and clones for those few shells that are too hot for auto. They should run fine and do no harm to the gun. Now I have all the advantages of the Autoplug, and of something like the MD plug.
All shells from very weak 2.75 dram to milder 3" shells on Auto. Anything that seems hot for auto on the magnum setting.
***** 7/24/13 update. Tested and confirmed to run the slightly weaker Remmington full house 15 pellet OO Buck load on the custom ".5" setting with reasonable ejection. Design is unqualified success.I'll make sure to bring my camera battery next time I set up to do a video proof of concept*****
Obviously this warrants a warning to do so at your own risk. This would clearly void any warranty that Tac47 has made.

Thank you Funked Out Updated
Just some pictures showing my version of a gasblock mounted rail, with the help of a piece fabbed by Funked Out.
These are made to work with my modified Bulgarian AK 74 retainers. If I was doing things over, I would probably go with the stud, as made by FunkedOut and an arsenal retainer or similar.
