  1. This might make me sound like an even bigger idiot, but could anyone point me in the direction of a moderator or drop me a name or two... that's part of what I couldn't find in my search.
  2. So is the consensus that if I did the conversion myself or sent it off to someone else to do it, I would just hope that I was lucky enough that the magazines would fit still when it was all said and done? Nothing really special to do in the conversion process?
  3. Can anyone tell me who I am supposed to talk to about getting some help with my account? I can't find what I am looking for in the "My Assistant" or anything else I search on. My display name is messed up and is need of some fixing. Thanks
  4. I guess I could have posted this here too, but would appreciate the help: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=39251
  5. The use of a 12 guage shotgun to attempt to deliver non-lethal force by a private citizen is legal libility sucide. If you can not justify the possibility of killing someone, you can not justtify using a normal 12 guage. There is legally no such thing as "shooting to wound." I know what I am talking about here. Get a can of pepper spray if you want "less then lethal" and understand that you are opening yet another can of snakes to live in the pit that you are digging yourself. Azrial is right. If you are going to defend yourself in your home, know your state laws, and use lethal f
  6. Seeing how you were so helpful with getting the information to me regarding the trigger on a Saiga conversion, I was wondering if you could answer another question I had. I invested in some 30 round magazines for a non-converted Saiga 7.62. If I wanted to convert my rifle to an AK-type, would I be forced by a number of different factors to switch to an AK magazine, or do people simply convert to AK magazines so it is more like an AK? Or to phrase it another way, can I convert my Saiga to an AK-type and still keep my Saiga mags? Appreciate the help.
  7. Be a man, use your hand! Just flipping ya shit, if you want to use a rubber mallet go ahead and do it that way, just make sure you keep it lined up in the groove in the front when ya beat on it. Christ - I can see why Vodka is a must in that ol' motherland. You would need a fist completely numb to beat this thing back in. Whacking it with the mallet finally got her back in place. Seriously though, I realize it was fate that kept me from getting the Red Jacket - that particular account I would have used to buy it actually had some problems the next week. Plus, when I finally do
  8. A guy in high school once called me the dumbest smart guy he ever knew - but I thought I had wised up a bit since then. The only visual I could find online (and believe me, I looked before I posted the thread of shame here) was a girl quickly stripping and reassembling an AK-47. I can't see what I am doing wrong versus what she is doing. My house has an extra doorway after I punched through the wall. I think that puts me in the league of "like to smack things" (not people) too. The cover is just very close to mounting back in the groove, but I can't get it in there. Is IZHMASH si
  9. So this is my first Saiga, and I never had anyone teach me guns... that being said: Is there a trick to reattaching the receiver cover back onto the rifle? I have line up the front into the grooves (at least I think I have it in the right spot), but I just can't get the rear end of the cover to make it back into the slot. At first I thought the release button was simply in the way, but now I realize I just can't line it up. What the hell am I doing wrong?
  10. It's not the location of the trigger at all. The Norinco Hunter and the Saiga 308 both have rear set triggers, but neither of them suck. This is a Norinco Hunter trigger. It sits in the normal spot, but has an elongated "booger hook" to get back to the rear of the receiver. In any other Saiga, parts 7, 8, 9 and 10 (shown below) make up the "trigger". You'd have to destroy two "good" trigger sets to get one "good" trigger to use in the factory Saiga, and it would STILL SUCK because of the Rube Goldberg linkage. Thank you for the information (which is what I was
  11. Not trying to justify anything - I am asking! I have read complaints about the position of the trigger, but not so much the problems with resistance before (and I am sure that is because I have not read nearly as much on these forums as others). Rather than relocating the trigger, could the trigger not just simply be replaced with a better one in the original location on the Saiga?
  12. If I wind up being happy with the feel and look of a Saiga pistol grip stock (being shipped now), and the fact that I have mags that fit a non-converted Saiga, then what reason is there left to convert? So far I have not heard that a conversion will add to the performance or accuracy of the shooter. So here is my question - What mods do add to the performance and accuracy of the Saiga 7.62 (and let's assume that my ergonomics are just fine with the new stock I am getting soon - different people have different frames afterall)?
  13. Is that something an absolute rifle amateur should attempt? What would the cost run for having someone do that? Like I said - I want to preserve it the best I can. I know that these things are amazingly resilient, but there is nothing wrong with taking care of ones tools either... especially when one cannot afford a great number of them.
  14. Pardon me if this topic has been done to death here, but quite frankly I am having trouble getting good results with the forum search. If I could say that I was disappointed with any one thing in my Saiga 7.62 out of the box - it was the finish. It is oh-so disappointing when it already has a few scratches and is still in the plastic. I am really wanting to put the absolute best, most durable, least susceptible finish on this thing. I am thinking it will be a good long time before I have the money to put into another rifle, so I want to do this one right. I've read about duracoat, c
  15. Okay, so now that you have me feeling like I should have bought a converted AK instead of my Saiga 7.62 (even after I thought I had done my homework... damn rush to do everything attitude), what do you think the cost of having a professional make the conversion would be (I to am behind the curve - when my father tried to teach me how to shoot as a kid it wound up with me teaching him basic gun safety!)? Who is the best at doing this? - even if it is a matter of shipping it off (to someone who could be trusted of course).
