  1. "Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?" "Because it's DULL, you twit, it'll hurt more!" Sick-nasty shotty! I like the bayonet as a last-ditch option. Also, supposedly someone with a bayonet on their AR used it in a 3-gun competition to stab a close-quarters cardboard sillouette in the face. It's a kill shot the same as a bullet, but I would love to try to patch a knife wound with those little stickers. Long story, short, I think I need to go look for a bayonet.
  2. DEFINATELY with sights, speaking of which, what kind would you recommend. I probably won't get into Bows until at least Christmas, but I wanted to go ahead and start asking what I should be looking for so I know what to put on Santa's wish-list. I'm 5'11", so should I get one of the shorter lengthed ones do you think? Thanks
  3. Ok, here's the questions...kinda general. First, are bows difficult to learn to shoot WELL? Is it something I can pick up and practice and get good, or do I need a teacher? Are bows relatively easy to maintain, or do they break all the time? I know when I have questions about guns, I have a plethora of forums and gun-shops to go to, but if I have questions about bows are there forums? Or archery shops where people really know their stuff? Is 3D Bow competition a practical endpoint for someone who's never shot a bow? Thanks
  4. Tack-driver! And a pretty one at that. Nice piece, but baby it, it's not quite as durable as a Glock. However, the fact that you can hit what you want consistantly without a DAO pull makes it so much better.
  5. So now that I have the guns I want, (except for a .50BMG and a .300MAG), I want to get a Bow. However, I hear these are finicky little creatures, difficult at best, frustrating at worst. I was curious if there were any Bow-man on the forum that could help me learn what I need to know before I decide to go in yet another direction and start preparing for archery competition. Let me know if you're there, and then I'll start asking questions. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the info all...I'm getting a better idea now of what I ought be looking at. For now, I just got a flip-up rear sight so that I can go shooting and compete some more before investing in an optic that might not be right for me. However, Wakal...what's needed for dual optics? That looks sweet and is definately something that I want to do. All of your ARs are gorgeous, btw, nice job. Can you please offer some guidance on offsetting the red-dot so a scope can mount up top? I think that's what I saw on yours, though one of them looks like both the holographic sight and and the scop
  7. I like the idea Stokstad. Assuming it would be minimal trouble for the moderators, that'd be sweet. We could always keep the calander keep updated with what's when, all they'd have to do is post the times and descriptions provided. Good thinkin'!
  8. Speaking of which...for those of you that compete, what choke restriction do you use? Topmaul mentioned he had success with Full, but can I get away with a less-constricted pattern? Let me know, I have about 2 days before I have to order mine.
  9. I ought be there too. I can't wait! Getting the gun threaded early next week for choke tubes, and since I'm already in the "open" class due to the mag-fed shotty, I'll be showing up with compensated choke tubes. Tighter patterns and no muzzle rise, hell yea! Team Saiga is gonna kick some a$$!
  10. I'm interested! Do share...
  11. Ok, so I'm going to admit my ignorance and just ask for help. I don't quite understand what MOA is. I think it's the size of the red-dot, but why is bigger, better? To save some money (I gotta save up for a .50BMG now), I'd rather save $200 bucks and get a good optic, instead of a GREAT optic, so the EOTech and Aimpoint are no longer in the running. Also, what's the advantages of a bed-panoramic optic vs. a tube design? Below are examples of bed vs. tube, since I don't know the right name for either. Bed-panoramic: ATN Digital Ultra Sight Hakko Bed-35 Hakko Bed-24 Tube:
  12. Thanks Indy. Does that scope give you a good enough field of vision and fast target aquisition? You said it was bright, but is it usable in low-light situations (near no-light)? I namely want this for 3-gun competition, and I don't see myself ever going over 100 yards with it, max, and usually it'll be 0-50 yards. Let me know if you get the chance, thanks for the help. And other people, feel free to give input too!
  13. What up all? I'm getting even nearer to completion of my new AR. It's not going to be the fanciest gun in the world, but I'm still excited: it's a new toy for me, and one that I bult myself. And just so everyone knows, I realize that guns aren't toys, but you get my drift. It's something to play responsibly with, and it will mean that I'll be at even more competitions around SC, NC, VA, TN, etc. What I've got going on is a flat-top DPMS 5.56 chambered, 1:7" twist, 14.5" barreled complete upper, mounted to a RRA complete lower with a 6-position telescoping stock. So what I need now is a g
  14. I'm anxious to see the optics mounted and the carnage possible once that is done! Please let me live vicariously through your .50caliber!!! I want one sooooo badly, let me know how you're liking yours. I think I like it even better than the Barretts: it's just more rifleish instead of Robocopish. Thanks
  15. I wish I could read/speak russian. It's such a cool looking/sounding language. Maybe once I build my AR I'll make that my next project.
  16. What's up? Sorry it's taken me awhile to post on this thread, but hopefully I'm not too out of date. 1) Not all the folders require cutting the tang. Some are made especially for the AK, other's are kind of fabricated to it. Unfortunately, I don't know the exacts about which are which. 2) The stuff on the Tapco has been covered well-replace the pin, you're golden. 3) Not all ACE folders have the funny bevel/tilt. Inparidel's is in plane with the barrel, and I like it better than mine. 4) Just to clear something up that I think might've been mis-communicated: the ACE isn
  17. Wassup y'all? I'm starting to build my AR, so I figured I ought start reading this forum. I wanted to thank y'all for the information, it's helped me already! I read all the pages posted by Indy, and on the bottom of the Sig-forum there's a link that has EVERYTHING imaginable about the two rounds (and then even more). I'd suggest skimming through it, I just spent an hour completely absorbed. Anyway, to make it easier to find, I'm linking it below, but thank Indy for the connection, and Vjor for looking out for everyone's safety. I definately don't want my brand new AR blowing up, but tha
  18. which is the bulgy ak stock? are we talking triangular side-folder? or something different? i got the side folder and that buttpad didn't fit worth a damn. i filled mine with resin and molded it to fit the curvature of the stock so that it was a tight fit, but it was a pain in the rear and looks ghetto as hell if anyone sees it. let me know, maybe i should switch pads...
  19. We'll all keep an eye out for it. I take this as seriously as a missing child report. Sorry to hear it, but maybe it will someday turn up. Does home-owners cover the loss?
  20. Yep, that's what I like. Nice job y'all! Now where to order?
  21. I think I like the simplistic design the best: no guns displayed. It makes it more of an inside thing. Not to mention, after our fellow forum member got fired from Home Depot for talking about owning a gun, I'm hesitant to show too much by displaying it everywhere. A nice slogan and the saiga symbol I think is subtle and sleek. Perhaps the symbol on the front breast with the zombie quote on the back. Except split up the quote so it might look something as follows: When the zombies come... Saiga ...what's in your closet??? Just my $.02. But I like everything that's been done, if
  22. Cobra, sick pistols. Kinda cowboyish, which is billy-bad-a$$, but when put together like that last picture, to me it screams "DIXIE" . But I'm a Carolina kid, so I got South brewin' in my blood: not the crazy burning-cross kind, but the chivalrous-proud kind. Put a confederate flag in the background, and I could swear I've seen that picture on a belt buckle or a trucker's hat. In otherwords: sweet! Now if we could just find holsters for our Saigas...
  23. I'm lovin' this topic. I'm a fan of the Elmer Fudd, but I also like simplicity. Something like all black with the Saiga logo and a fun slogan: my vote goes for the zombie one! Nice call.
  24. First off: sweet collection dannyboy! I know asking this on an AK forum is gonna get me in trouble , but I'm curious...I have always been under the impression that the AK-based rifle wasn't the most accurate thing in the world, but those family photos show some pretty nice looking scopes. Does the AK, Romak, Dragunov, etc. justify the need for good optics? Thanks for the info.
  25. Inparidel...sweet gun, I've not yet seen it. You said that your stock is held in place by spring tension when folded? So kick doesn't knock it loose? And you have no problems with the side-mounted optics getting in the way? That's hot! I'd suggest looking into that Neubert. Another advantage of ACE is the extension buttpads. They absorb a ton of recoil, as well as lengthening the stock anywhere from .25"-1.5" if I remember correctly. Not to mention the cheek-pad that'll provide consistant cheek welds every shot making that Kobra give all it's worth. Dang, that thing is sweet Inparidel
