  1. So I'm most interested in the Taurus 24/7 and am thinking of getting one in 9mm. Anyone have a personal review? Also, DAO=Double Action Only? Since it has the manual safety, why would they design it DAO? I want a short trigger pull, and last time I checked DAO meant a long, heavy pull every time. Just to be sure I am not confusing my acronyms, can I get a run down of DAO, DA, SAO, SA, and DA/SA for both revolvers and semis? Thanks.
  2. Dave will do a great job: simply top-notch. Forgive him if it takes a tad longer than 2 weeks, I doubt it will, but I think you might be right about the American Chopper thing with the "challenged co-workers". It took a little longer with mine than originally predicted when he took on my project, but he did an awesome job and I'm so glad he took the time to do it right. Definately post pictures of your's as soon as you get it back, I'm eager to see more of his work. Just think, you probably spent ~$300 for the gun and about the same for mods. The only other boys with a semi-auto worth
  3. Thanks all for the input. I wasn't sure if an in-attic range would be possible, but it definately doesn't sound too feasible. I have shot pistols indoors and unfortunately know how loud it is, but I've only shot at ranges which are essentially enclosed concrete boxed. I was hoping with insulated walls, it would absorb some of the sound wave's impact, and not make it quite as unbearable. However, I've never shot subsonic ammo before in my life. I know with a suppressor it makes a difference, but neither my friend nor I live in an area where suppressors are legal, not to mention the co
  4. One of my friends wants to get into shooting, but we all know how annoying range costs are, and not everyone has the luxury of living outside city limits on a large property. Thus, one of my friends is interested in setting up a range in his attic. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to even go about doing this? Also, how quiet is subsonic ammo? Say 9mm? Could he shoot it in his attic without getting his neighbors calling the cops on him if he used subsonic bullets? Any help would be appreciated, thanks all!
  5. I won't be back in time from Asheville this weekend, but please be in touch about upcoming events. I'll be keeping an eye out, but I'm tackling 3 jobs this summer and an LSAT review course, so I may occasionally miss a competition just because I forgot it was going on. Thanks again for the kindness, knowledge, and help. I'll be in touch.
  6. So I finally got to the range for an awesome day with my guns. My goal was to finish breaking them in and figure out their limitations and my own limitations with each of them. I've had all my guns for a while, but only have put 250 through each pistol and about 25 through my Saiga. This weekend I got both pistols up to 500 Rounds, and put 100 through my Saiga. I got some cleaning and lubing to do, but am amazed at the results and very happy with my guns thus far. The P-3AT Kel-tec had been giving me issues for awhile with jamming, and I was debating selling it for a Kahr. I will say,
  7. Thanks everyone for all the info! I'm definately going to start competing now that I know a little more. I really want to try to make it the 14th to the Range-1 match, but am going to Asheville for a friend's weddingy and it's a long drive back, so I doubt I'd make it in time. However, I'll keep you posted as I learn for sure if I might be able to: I'll probably know in a day or so. Though, if I miss this match, I'll bust hump to make the next. BTW, TopMaul thank you SO much for offering to let me borrow the AR: that's awesome of you! I definately would want to be part of Team Sai
  8. Wassup all? I'm in North Carolina around Raleigh/Durham and visit Charlotte/Gastonia some, and I've not had much luck finding any competitions. Does anyone know of some possibilities within 3 hours of either location? The range I frequent doesn't even let me do CCW-Holster draws to practice coming up on target, and since it's indoors they frown on heavy-loads from my Saiga, and won't allow Sabot slugs. Unfortunately, since I've had little luck finding anything around these parts, I'm not even sure what types of competitions to ask about. I have the H&K .45USPc and the Saiga-12C. As soo

  10. I've ran across the term "slamfire" and "bumpfire" numerous times on the forum, but I'm not too aware of what either is. Can someone please fill me in? It seems that slamfiring isn't a good idea, but is bumpfiring a practical way to squeeze off rounds faster? If so, how can I do it and is there a safe way to practice, or would i run the risk of slamfiring instead? Thanks!

What muzzle brake are you using? I'm trying to figure out if I'd rather do a muzzle brake, chokes, or a choke-compensator combo. Can you post pictures of your new gun? Thanks
  12. Sweet, thanks for the responses. Now the last few questions...Where would I get my barrel threaded for an internal choke? What brand choke (Rem or Win) and what type of choke (full, improved, modified) would best suit my purposes? Would I leave the choke in for defense purposes, or take it out returning to cylinder bore? Would there be serious limitations on ammo that I could shoot (steel, lead, slugs, size, etc)? Where would I get the choke, especially those with the extension that could be threaded for a FH/brake? I know much of this is up to the individual, but I don't know as mu
  13. Hrm...So I have a dilemma and want some people's opinions on it. I have my Saiga set-up for tactical purposes (home-defense): 18.5" barrel, pistol grip, night-sights, folding stock, etc. Hopefully I'll never even use it for such purposes, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. However, I want it for more than the off-chance that I might need it for defense and the occasional weekend-recreational shooting. I'd love to have it be functional as a sporting gun good for clays, skeet, hunting, and 3-gun competitions. Since the barrel is short and open-cylinder bore, can it ever be
  14. Kahr, Rohrbaurgh, Kel-tec...in that order. The snub-nosed revolvers are great, but heavier, harder to conceal, and lower capacity. The Kahrs are unbelievable. A .40 will definately ruin anyone's day, though the 9mm is also amazing. Both are accurate, reliable, and easy to conceal, though rather expensive. The Rohrbaurghs are similar to the Kahrs, but I've always heard Kahr get better reviews. Rohrbaurgh's a smaller company from what I understand, and thus can't meet the same demands and keep the costs comparable, however they make a great product and have great customer service.

The Bulgy side folder is a pain in the ass from what I heard. I had Dave at EliteFirearms build my gun. He did an absolutely amazing job, but I felt bad for him: it's not the simple installation anyone would want to do. The pictures may not do her justice, but she has a wonderful finish, perfect porting, and a few more goodies that Dave and I discussed like Tritium Night Sights. If you tell him what you want, he can do it and do it wonderfully, but you may have to do some convincing to get him to try another Bulgy. Maybe since he made mine he's fabricated a different hinge o
  16. Thanks Gedi. I think you just changed my entire outlook on shooting. I've hardly done anything but target training: going for 2" groups at 15yards. But you're right, if I unholster, rarely will I have the opportunity to take careful aim and put a round exactly where I want it. I'd be better just pointing quickly for the first few rounds so long as I can keep my rounds on target since I don't want any misses straying anywhere that could cause a problem. I will start practicing ASAP pointing instead of aiming with both my guns, and start varying the visual stimulation I'm pointing at (color
  17. Aww, I must be a wuss then. 5'11" 200lbs at <8% bf and I can't even keep my wrist stiff enough for a .380. Thank y'all, I definately won't take offense. I think I have generally been keeping a limp wrist to absorb the awkward kick that such a small gun generates and never realized that it would be a problem. I'll stiffen up and let y'all know how it goes. I don't get to shoot often, but I'm going out in a few weeks and will definately bring a few hundred rounds for each gun and let you know the results. It'll also be my first time shooting the Saiga-12, and I can't wait! If y'all t
  18. Thanks all! I just joined the Keltec forum, so you may see some posts from me there soon too. Also, I usually carry the H&K USP45c, but I use a small of the back holster which I don't like wearing with tucked in shirts, so I want a back-up piece just in case I have to go super-formal and be tucked in. Have a great one! And I'll see everyone on the various forums.
  19. Wassup all? I've posted a few times on the Saiga-12 forum, but not yet here. I'm wondering what's up with my Kel-tec .380. It's a great size, and very affordable, but it jams once a magazine. Needless to say, if I'm concealed carrying, the only time it's going to be brought out is life or death situations, and I don't want to wonder if it will work in that kind of position. Does anyone else have this kind of trouble with it? I disassembled it and noticed the main recoil spring isn't linear, it's kind of bent up. Could this cause that big a problem? Also, I'm shooting cheap ammo. If

    So Confused

I'm trying to keep up with all of this stuff about chokes, rifled barrels, rifled slugs, minimum barrel lengths with and without the additions of permanent extensions, gas ports, etc. and have no clue what's going on anymore. If someone can please get me back up to speed, it'd be awesome! I'm sorry, it may be all the posts on the site, but I've read damn near all and still have some questions, so perhaps it would be beneficial to everyone if some of the more knowledged members could lay it out pretty simple for the rest of us. Let's start off with rifled barrels. I'm not here to ar
  21. What's your barrel length and choke situation? And what three guns? I may have to give you a challenge soon as my lil' baby is complete. Let me know please.
  22. So if I go ahead and place my order through the website, that reserves my place in line? And credit card won't be charged until shipping? Let me know anyone who gets the chance. Thanks!
  23. Just so everyone knows, I am not prejudice against a 3, 6, or 7-vent design. I just didn't want to draw each one since my sketches are laughable at best. Therefore, don't limit your considerations to only 4, 5, and 8-vent designs. Thanks!
  24. I think we all agree that Johnny's flash suppressors are strait up billy-bada$$. I absolutely love them and am fully committed to getting one from him ASAP. However, I wanted to throw an idea out to y'all and get some input. I can't quite tell from the pictures how many vents there are on the suppressor, but it looks like 8, and that seems to me that some of the flash would be dispersed directly upward into the line of sight/aim. It seems to me (granted, I don't know even a 1/100th as much as I'd like) that flash suppressors might should attempt to direct the flash everywhere but up. I
