  1. To my stock Saiga I added a $10.00 muzzle brake to ameliorate recoil and a $22.00 (eBay) handguard to facilitate cooling of the barrel assembly. Hardly "significant changes". The mag in the picture was added only to show the similarity in weapons. $289.00 for the stock Saiga plus $32.00 is $321.00. You wrote, " It would cost about $50 more than what you spent on your rifle to do a full conversion to an AK style." Hmmm. Where can I buy an AK-103 "clone" for $371.00, Jim? For that sum, I just might be enticed into buying one.
  2. "I wanted a real Russian AK-103 clone, not some bastardized-for-import sporter rifle..." Sorry 'bout tripping your trigger, but ain't that exactly whatcha you got...but more so? What does your Saiga - however it's been altered - do better than my stock Saiga?
  3. I don't understand the mentality of buying a Saiga, then trying to make another weapon out of it. Shown is my Saiga. Why spend hundreds -- or thousands -- of dollars to make it something else? Jus' asking.
  4. Drill the rivets off and pop it off.
  5. Tks to DINZAG for his threading kit and just the right muzzle brake.
  6. With the advent of higher-capacity magazines, its it feasable to continue altering the basic Saiga 7.62x39 to accept regular AK mags? Seems to me that regular AK mags are cheap, but the modified magazines are becoming increasingly available and affordable.
  7. On a recommendation from my Saiga dealer - jakalphamale@aol.com - I contacted dinzzag@yahoo.com and purchased a .308 brake from him. It's a threaded brake, fits a 7.62x39 and he supplies instructions via .pdf and loans a threading kit for the job.
  8. Other than a Krebs peepsight, the only other change I choose to make to my Saiga is the addition of a flash suppressor. Any of you have successes with them? If so, what was your source?
  9. Carl at Fire Dragon Pistol Accessories - http://www.efkfiredragon.com/ - is telling us that he can provide .357 Sig barrels for CZ's and Tanfoglio's IF the volume is available to offset his costs. If you'd like to encourage Fire Dragon to provide top quality, low-cost .357 Sig barrels for YOUR CZ or Witness, please e-mail Carl: efkfiredragon@cox.net and let him know you're interested! 10. WTT a VGC Romanian PA-74 in 7.65mm w/customized grips and a pristine Bul Mak w/ Makawrap or Pearce grips - your choice. The PA-74 has had the rear sight professionally widened and the front sight brightened. The customized grips are equally comfortable for left and right-handers. Auldpharght martynoland@joimail.com
  11. Krebs makes an AK-74 peep sight for the Saiga that is the perfect adjunct for iron-sight shooters. It costs little, is a cinch to install and makes a world of difference in target acquisition. For those of you who need the advantage, it's compatible with side-mount scopes IMHO, Saiga conversions by Krebs et al. are over-priced and unnecessary. Buy an AK-47 or CETME in the first place and save yourself time, money and aggravation.
  12. Krebs makes a peep-sight for the AK-74 that fits the Saiga perfectly. If you shoot ironsights, you'll be amazed at the difference. Easy to install and much better target acquistion. Marty
