    this is a totally different rifle once the conversion is done. It is balanced better, swings easier and it pulls right up tight to the body. I like the Warsaw stock. It just feels right. Test firing went without a problem, I can not remember the last time I had so much fun test firing.

     

    All told $225ish for the parts and $350 for the rifle, not bad. Now to get the PKAS setup. And I know, I know, pictures. As soon as I get a different paint job on there. The Engine enamel looks horrid. It does not match the rest of the gun at all. How tough is the betty crocker bake a gun stuff?

    I am in the middle of my conversion. Furniture installed, painted, installed FCG, put back together, and when I pulled the bolt back it stuck. I let it fly and it went forward, but did not reset the hammer. I am leaving the BHO out of the picture, and know that there is a grinding of the side of the hammer to clear the BHO. I heard that you may need to grind the "hump" of the hammer, but I can not find any photos of exactly what I should do. Before I go dremel crazy and bubba up the gun, I thought I would post. This is so frustrating, I just want my newly converted baby at the range this weekend, not matter how sh*tty the weather will be.

     

    Oh, and I was shocked as to how bad of a mess the first swipe of the safety would be, Yikes! :eek:

    wow, this job really sucks. No mention at all anywhere about what a PIA this is. I had to shave down the lip with a dremel, and I still can't get it on all the way. Makes me question how much fun the rest of this job is going to be. As of right now it is stuck on 1/2 way. Awesome. My hand is throbbing and I have a headache. ok rant off.

    i always just grab the back end of the gastube with a wrench and turn the handguard on its raly easy with the wrench.

    Thanks for the advice folks. Since I do not have a vice, I guess I have to try the wrench and twist. I was trying with channel locks today. Man my hand hurts.. Hopefully I have more luck tomorrow.

    I have just started with the conversion this evening and though I would start out easy. I just put on the bottom handguard without a problem, thanks to dinzag's bolt on hg retainer. I am having a real problem installing the upper kvar plastic handguard. From what I can see I need to install it upside down then rotate it into place. Fine, 1 hour later and raw hands later, no go. So I see on one post to shave off a tiny bit of the lip to allow it to spin on. Before I screw up the handguard, I figured I would throw it out to you guys. Any help would be appreciated.

    I am considering putting one on in the future, and was wondering if it would hold up well on a S12 given the recoil? Is their something better for a shotgun for the same amount of money that I am overlooking? Also any other input you may have would be appreciated.

    Just put one on last month and I love it. It makes target acquisition really fast. Keep both eyes open and put it in the circle. It allows me to shoot trap reasonably well against the fudds. It is getting difficult to track one down, they stopped importing them.

     

    If you can track one down, I feel that it is a quality product that has impressed me from the second I put it on. Good luck

  15. Sporter Stock with POSP problems??

    I've been going through the whole forum and haven't found any info on this...

     

    Has anyone tried using a POSP scope with the standard Saiga sporter stock? I've heard there may be eye relief issues with it...anyone know for sure?

    I know that the skeleon stock is fine. I know that the AK stocks are fine, but the sporter/hunting monte carlo stock??

     

    Our gun laws wont let me change the stock otherwise I would change it like most of you guys here :(

     

    Also, is it really heavy and makes the gun imbalanced to the left?

    Yup, same problem here. I bought mine used and it did not have the rubber eyepiece. That is supposed to help out a lot. Once you get it mounted you adjust the rubber eyepiece to set the proper eye relief. You can order it here if you need to

    Nice to see someone else using the POSP, they are not used as much as I thought. What model are you using?

    I just got my license in Nov. and being completely new to the scene I spent as much time researching and asking questions at the local gunshop. They do a raffle for all sorts of different and unique firearms. When I saw it on the wall I asked what it was. The owner told me it was an AK shotgun.

    My eyebrows went up and I said Really? They make those? That is when I ran home and started to research Saiga's. What I found out had my jaw hitting the floor. I was floored with the idea. I ran back to the shop to throw down some cash for the raffle immediately.

    I waited 2 weeks and the raffle wasn't filling up, so I got antsy and bought another one on the spot.

    This was only the 2nd firearm I purchased after my SHTF gun, the SKS. I knew I wanted a shotgun for HD, and what better option was out there. I only wish I won the raffle, just so I could have 2. :wub:

     

    Since then I picked up the Saiga 7.62, which I plan on doing the full conversion, and I would love to pick up that 308!

    I might just be missing what the problem is, but you do know that the existing hardware can be tightened, right? That is the purpose of the locking plate on the bottom, so you can move the throw arm to tighten it down. my POSP came loose from the factory and had to be adjusted.

    If you look at the photo you can see how the locking part is a little chewed up. I think I found the part I need to replace here.

    I will not be ordering from there, and will go through Tantal if I can, but it is nice to see that I can find these parts. Thanks for the replies.

    thanks for the response. i had it mounted on my 7.62, but decided the s12 was a better fit. here it is.

    it seemed loose to begin with, but i must have chewed up the locking nut somehow.

    it looks like i just need to replace that 1 part and it will lock down much tighter.

    I've searched the boards and the net looking to find a replacement locking bolt. It looks like mine is stripped and does not lock in and hold tight. This is the round part that should snug up tight when the locking arm comes forward. It looks like it needs more metal to lock in tight.

    I am assuming that I can buy a replacement, but maybe not. Anyone know where i might be able to locate parts for the sidemount scopes?

    My neighbor wants me to glob jb-weld on it and dremel it down until it fits again. I'd rather come here and get your opinion

    I picked up the book after scouring the internet for information about the S12. It is the ONLY source of information in book form. It has many great points, but most of these points can be found right here on the boards. It has some crappy blown up photos and completely blank pages, but what the hell, he's a gun trainer, not a publisher.

    I do want to know what Gabe has to say about his insights and evolution of form when it comes to handling the S12. I agree with another thread that I would love to have him do a video on the S12 alone with that crazy Spetznaz guy from the TV show. Any information would be great, due to the fact that I think the s12 is an under appreciated firearm.

    It looks like it is going to get tougher to get the PK-AS and Kobras. One of the leading importers just quoted me $399.95 from his personal stash for a PK-ASV. One of the places I called said that Russia stopped selling them to the US due to the blowup in Georgia on 8/08, so get them while you can. I just received a PK-ASV used and it worked great at the range. I think I got a good deal on it, but I'm wondering about the POSP 4x24T with illuminated rangefinder (comes with AK side mount) that I picked up. Anyone know anything about this scope?
