  1. Hey, I am able to get some surplus .308 and don't know if its good or not. The first bunch of stuff is apparently made in England with a headstamp WA80 7.62 R1M1 The other stuff has a headstamp R685 If anybody has any info it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Larry, you and I obviously think alike, because I had that same idea! I even have the Choate stock and black furnature on my S-.308 22", I'm just mustering the strength to cut that damn cover plate off the receiver and drop a RSA trigger into it. Ya know, if we lived closer we might just be shootin' buddies Great looking guns man.
  3. Shit-hell-fire!! I better cancel my order then! Thanks man, spaced that out for SOME reason And I don't even smoke pot!
  4. Hey, Welcome to the Forum!! Always great to meet new people. So, right off the bat, here are a few things to get you started: 1.) Ammo - Sportsman's Guide has Wolf .308 for 7 bucks a box, but you gotta buy it in bulk (500 or 1,000 rounds) Shipping ain't bad though. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=282659 2.) Rifle Stocks - An esteemed member of this forum, BattleRifleG3 makes custom stock sets for Saigas either converted to pistol grip configuration, or sporter configuration. Here's a link to his page: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=9471 3.)
  5. As far as this stock goes, I would buy one for my unconverted Saiga-12, just because it has a trigger that resembles somewhat of a normal trigger. (ie - doesn't pull like upside-down crap) But as for my Saiga-.308, its getting the Pistol Grip treatment. I figure if I put on a Dragunov stock and an RSA trigger it'll be sweeter than candy. And she's pretty damn sweet
  6. I can't seem to find that thread. Do you have a link? Or do you know of a web site or a person who sells VEPR thumbhole stocks? Thanks.
  7. So how is the front hand guard held on? Did you have the gas block pressed off and an AK lower hand guard retainer put on, or did you just use some kind of clamp? Thanks!
  8. I am seriously looking for for a Saiga 308-2 buttstock. The one that fits a pistol-gripped Saiga. I've looked all over at the other ones and nothing but that one strikes my fancy. I know someone has to have one. I mean they made that rifle, right? I would be satisfied if someone could make me one that was close to what it looks like. I would pay a pretty penny for something like that. Here's a pic to give you an idea: Thanks
  9. Yeah, that one only fits a MAK-90, but good thought though. I could swear I saw someone on here post something about a custom pin-on brake they were making specifically for the S-.308, but no matter. Thanks anyway.
  10. I saw awhile back a pin-on vortex flash hider and pin-on adapter with left-hand threads. The unit slipped right over the FSB and pinned on through one of the FSB pin holes. Who was making those and how do I get ahold of them? Also, if anybody has any cost-effective ways of getting a combination muzzlebrake and flash hider on the end of my S-.308s without threading the barrel PM me. Please. I'm looking for a good quality brake and flash hider I can permanently put on and not have to worry about again, so if anybody has any ideas please drop me a line. Thanks
  11. I was looking for a solution to that very problem, the long creepy trigger pull. I figured if I could get my gun smith to drill two holes in the receiver the same size and position of the ones in my Saiga 12 I could just drop in my old trigger group from my Saiag 12 when I converted it. What you think? Is it worth trying?
  12. Hey fellas, got a question that will peak your interest. Now before I ask it, I have to confess: I am the owner of two (2), count 'em, two Saiga .308s. One shorty pistol grip and one 22in sporter. They are everything I could want out of a semi-auto .308, except for the limited capacity mag. So, I know a lot of you are big into FALs, so my question is this: If money was not an object, what would be the best FAL to buy, accounting for reliability, accuracy, funtionality, etc. And also, the same question is applied if money was an object, with a roof of about $800. Enlighten me.
  13. Yeah, odd. I wouldn't know, I've got an older S-12 and I've been off the forums for months; haven't been keeping up on the info. Good luck
  14. Positive feedback for Jofus. Bought a S-.308 from him; 100% good deal.
  15. 'Cause I already got a pistol gripped S-.308, and I like the feel of the rifle stock on my other .308, just not the trigger group. It's a little bit of a sacrifice on both ends, but if it works out I'll have the rifle stock I want and a lot better trigger group, in my opinion.
  16. Hey fellas, I talked to my gunsmith and he said he can measure the holes and cut them for the trigger group but I gotta put the trigger group in. The thing is, I like the feel of the Saiga 12 trigger group better than the .308 trigger group. Mainly, 'cause it pulls more like a regular AK trigger rather than up and back. So, I figure I'll use my unconverted S-.308 as a test subject for a trigger group transplant and see how it shoots. As far as I can tell, no one's done this, so as far as I can tell I'm breaking new ground on this. What'd you think?
  17. Anyone? C'mon, I know SOMEONE's got to know how to do it.
  18. Hey fellas. Ok, I know there have been a couple people who have SUCESSFULLY converted M14 mags to work with the Saiga .308. So, this is what I need from you guys: Either somebody get with me on this, 'cuz I will pay someone to do a couple conversions on some mags, and I'll pay pretty damn good. Either that, or whoever knows just come out and tell me how the hell you do it. Thanks.
  19. Well, I like the idea of an adjustable choke. I was looking in the new Cabella's catalog and spotted this one called Pollychoke, its adjustable from Xtra-Full to cylinder bore and says it handles slugs Heavi-Shot and steel. If I get my barrel threaded I can go with that. I'm just not sure which type of threads to go with. Remmington, Browning, Mossberg, etc.
  20. So pretty much you can shoot rifled slugs out of any choke, but you want to shoot sabots out of a rifled barrel? Also, wouldn't it be dangerous to shoot slugs out of a full choke? Thirdly, what is the difference between the different types of chokes. Help me here, I'm an idiot.
  21. Well it says on the side 12x76 18,3 and a dime does fit in the barrel. Oh yeah, I went and threw some bird shot through it, and it is deffinitely not choked. It spreads out pretty bad. I guess its time to get that barrel threaded for chokes!
  22. So, I have a Saiga 12 with a 19" barrel and no threads. I've heard that the models with the 19" barrel AND threads are not choked, and that the models with 22" barrel without threads is FULL CHOKE. So, my question is, with my barrel being 19" with NO THREADS, where does that put me as far as choke is concerned? How can I tell if its choked or not? Thanks.
  23. Hey everybody, just had a question, still learning a lot about shotguns in general. The question is this: I've heard of people shooting slugs through full choke barrels, both Saigas and other brands of shotguns. So, I thought its only safe to shoot slugs out of a no-choke/open-choke barrel or improved cylindar. What is the difference between the different types of shotgun barrels and what is the skivvy on which kind of choke to use when firing slugs? Thanks.
  24. I had a bit of a question about Saigas and chokes. How can you tell if your S-12 is choked or not? The dealer I bought mine from told me it a no choke model, but there isn't any identifying marks to say that it is or isn't. So how do you tell? Another question I had was, if anybody has fired this brand yet: I bought some Remington "Slugger 1oz. Max" slugs in both 2 3/4" and 3" I've never fired slugs out of it before and was just wondering how these things are gonna perform. Any info would be much appreciated.
