  1. Hey all i'm considering buying a bolt action rifle. Budget is around $350. I had a Remington 710 a while ago in 270 cal. but got rid of it because it didn't feel right for me..Soooo...I'll be using it mostly for coyotes at ranges from 100-300 possibly if not longer if i'm in the mood to throw some artillery at them. I got a T38 Mauser and Mosin Nagant that i could use but they are pretty shot out and don't hold groups at all. So give me some options if ya would. Savage? Rem? Win? and so on. 06? 223? 7mm? 243? and so on.. has to stay in budget. FORD
  2. Yea i looked at the weapon laws here and from what i understand there is no restrictions on black powder weapons. At least thats what it said in the pamplet i got at our sheriff reserve meeting the other night. and i ask a couple other reserves and the deputy there and they said i'd be all right. So i went on and ordered a 1858 New Army .44 cal. 5 1/2"BBL and i cant wait till she gets here. Thanks for your help
  3. Hey all. I was wondering if the handgun laws that go with cartridge firearms are the same as the ones for black powder firearms. Mainly age of purchase. Any info would be great.
  4. Hey all..I'm starting weapons training next month for my sheriff reserve unit and we're going to be issued Sig Sp2340 when completed. Wondering if ya'll had an experience with this model and the pros and cons of it. I've handle the weapon during training while doing building searches (of course unloaded) and it felt good in the hands. Ford Stud
  5. I've had both the 500 and the 870. Both are damn good guns. Personally I like the 870 more cuz you can accessorize it alot more than the 500. I only use mine for hunting. I have an 870 now with a 10 shot extention, pistol grip buttstock and fiber optic sites for pheasant season and i have a 7 shot extention with 1.5-3x scope for deer season. If I had a choice i'd take the 870 over the 500 any day. I also have a Escort Aimguard 12 ga. with a 20 in barrel and 7+1 tube and ramp site. I use the as my home defense shotgun. Its nice an light and easy to manuver. Ford
  6. I was borrowsing around on the Sportsman's Guide website and found AK-47 .223 mags. Any think these will work in Saigas? Here's the link as well. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=119855 Reserve Deputy Ford
  7. hoop whats the eastwave website
  8. I was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion on a scope mount. I had a POSP scope but i didn't like it cuz it was positioned of to the left of the rifle alittle bit so it was terribly uncomfortable for me. Are the regular flat top mounts placed directly over the center over the rifle or off to the side like the POSP's. And whats a reseanable red dot scope. I got a BSA on my Hi Point 9mm rifle. Alittle big so i'd like sumthing smaller. Ford
  9. Platekiller Here's a quote from Assasin posted about a month ago to someone who had the same message, but it's for a saiga but should give ya alittle more idea about it. "it is fine to fire 5.56mm through your .223 saiga , 5.56mm is the metric designation for .223" They are effectivly the same round , 5.56mm rifles are usually military rifles and have slightly larger chamber dimensions than .223 rifles , rifles marked .223 usually have more stringent chamber dimensions to aid accuracy. the reason for the 5.56mm rifles having slightly larger chamber dimensions is simply to give the rifle
  10. I zeroed mine with a .223 laser boresighter to start with and went from there. I personaly don't like the POSP scopes. I have a POSP 8x42 i got as a gift of my S.223. I don't like the the scope position on. For me its real uncomfortable to shoot with the POSP on. I'm more of an iron sights fan. So there's alittle input from my experiance.
  11. Does anyone out there have directions on how to convert a 223 Saiga to a pistol grip style?
  12. yeah i think i'm going to go with the POSP sight, prob. 6 or 8 power. I've read up on them and they sound pretty accurate and i wanna keep the russian look with the weapon. thanx for your input indyarms
  13. Well it's mainly gonna be used for coyotes out on the farm..i'd like an optic that can retain its zero all the time. i've used 3-9x40 on a Ruger .22 and 6-24x50 on a Remington 710 .270 cal. and have good luck with them but i just want some more input or suggestions of what everyone else thinks.
  14. What bout a good scope? any one have any suggestions on one.
