  1. I'm interested in your choice of mobile 1... Why choose it by name? i mean it dosn't have the high ZDDP levels rotela has... Well, it was actually mobile 1 turbo diesel truck, so i guess it has as much as rotella. How it dffers from Delvac 1, I don't know. I use it in my turbo diesel with no problems. Reason i picked it was it with stand heat better than regular oil and I had it on hand.
  2. Add a little mobile 1 motor oil on the gas piston. just remove the gas plug and pour a couple of cc of oil down there. The oil seals and lubes the piston. sounds stupid, but it makes a big difference.
  3. Oh, LOL check out the OP date of the poll..... may have something to do with it....
  4. Why the no sure fire mags in the poll? If it was up there, I would vote for a 8 round sure fire. The russian mags are ok, but hurt when it comes to 922r
  5. Cash for clunkers passed today. Obama is giving up to $4500 for your old car if it traded in on a new fuel efficient car. What the hell is wrong with the Old Pancho? +1 Some people have no appreciation for old classic cars. I'd gladly have that old car than some crappy Lexus any day! The laundry basket in the back seat is a nice touch too. Great pics with two good ole boys shooting out in the dark in the headlights of the old car. Beers in the coolers on the hood of the car....... pretty good evening if you ask me.
  6. I agree with you 100%, just trying to explain the thought behind banning the street sweeper. IMHO, the 2nd amendment especially protects a right to own mi,itary style weapons. Which has nothing whatsoever to do with the 2nd Amendment. We aren't guaranteed the right to keep and bear "sporting" arms only. Of course "our" Gubmint disregards the Constitution whenever it pleases.. and the average moron on the street seems both ignorant of and indifferent to it.
  7. A saiga and an aircooled VW..a man after my own heart.
  8. IMHO, you will be legal. You need to replace four parts, and the pistol grip has to be USA made. It doesn't count as a replacement part, because the gun was not originally equipped with it. I encourage you to read the 922r compliance forum here, it in the tech section. also use this calculator- http://thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/BuildSaigaVerifyCompliance
  9. In BOTH cases, the drum was an interracial part of the weapon.... Not detachable like the Saiga... I think Saigas are as safe as any other self loader out there If anything, hi cap magazines will be banned. The street sweeper had NO sporting purpose. A saiga can be a tactical or a sporting weapon. That the difference.
  10. LOL I also go by the rule to always modify the cheapest part first. More than likely, you are like me and tinker with a number of different items. I do the same only with removing material from the HAMMER not the Carrier.... Hammer = $30 replacement part... i don't even want to think what it'd cost to get a new carrier. I take a much different approach when I work on something. I don't worry about messing up the more expensive part. I do the job at hand and do it with confidence, because I have done all my research and also learned by hands on experience. I would n

I agree. No doubt a converted gun is better and worth the money, but I like the idea of easy turning my saiga back into a 5 shot "sporting" weapon in just a few minutes. Add if the Zombie's attack, I convert it back into a tactical weapon easy also. Bottom line^^ I will probably catch hell for this from the full convert fans, but here goes.... IMO, Tapco M4 collapsable/pistol or a RAA skeleton stock is the way to go IMO. Reasoning is as follows: 1) Very cheap relative to full converts... under $60-90 versus $200+ in parts and much more in tools/time/gunsmithing for full conv
  12. If you think magazine or bolt interference is a problem with FTE, you can fed a shell by hand, fire it and see if it is ejected. Obvious once you think of it, but some don't.
  13. Ordered both of these from MD Arms. Wanted to say thanks for great service and great products.
  14. I guess you can get an idea of bolt speed by how far the spent shell flys. With low brass, the shells go about 2 ft, and with high brass the gun will throw them about 8 ft.
  15. This what i did- 1.I field stripped my gun. 2.Then I took some fine metal polishing compound, used to polish Aluminum wheels, and coated the places where metal hits metal, the bolt , hammer where it hits the bolt, rails, etc . basically you are lubing the gun with the paste. 3.I reassembled the gun. 4.Then I simply cycled it by hand 75-100 times. Did while watching King of the Hill. I would not suggest firing it with paste in it. 5.Field stripped it. 6.Cleaned it it very well. This is the hardest part. Be certain you have removed all the paste. 7.Then oiled it with
  16. My saiga 12 fires low brass shells easy....with all stock parts, stock ports. I also have a three port gun It didn't when I first bought it, but after loosen the carrier and bolt up, it fires fine...with stock buffer spring, stock gas plug, piston, etc I wouldn't want to replace the buffer spring, what happens when you fire high brass ammo. Low brass seems to pose a issue with the majority of S12s, it just wasn't designed for wimpy shotshells.Either feed it the high brass it desires... Or put the four items mentioned above on the gun, should eat pretty much anything after t
  17. Ok, thread over. let's sticky it now....
  18. I just noticed...I'm such a noobie....
  19. I think it's interesting to note that the Marines and US Army went with pump shotguns, rather than the A5, which was very popular and certainly known and available to the armed forces if they wished. No doubt the A5 is a dependable design, but even Browning himself must have found fault with inertia loaded weapons, because he went on to develop the first gas operated weapons.
  20. If the gun is set up well, it should cycle and fire any 2-3/4 12 gauge shell., from low brass target loads to high brass slugs.
  21. Hi, I'm new here and love the information I've gotten here. I was thinking it would be helpful to have some general information on the different types of failures, likely cause, and probable fixes. I propose the following formate. For example,- FTE- Failure To Eject is when the fired casing is not properly ejected fron the chamber or action. The Spent casing causes a blockage and prevents the next round from being stripped from the magazine and chambered. Likely cause-The carrier not moving far/ fast enough to the rear. Because the carrier does not move freely enough , the bu
  22. Most military weapons are gas operated. The biggest advantage of the gas operated shotgun/ rifles, is it will fire in any position, being held in most anyway. They also have a greater tolerance for dirt. The Saiga needs a little work out of the box to fire the low brass ammo, but I have not heard of many problems firing 00 or slugs with the stock mag.
  23. Most FTE are caused by sticky carriers or lack of gas pressure. You say that it cycles easy by hand. If your gas ports are open, than that means you may have a leak. Is your gas plug screwed in all the way? just thinking. Another thought is to try the stock gas puck. Don't give up. it will work and chances are you will learn a lot by fixing it. every Russian arm I have bought, I ended up having to fix. I still love them.
  24. The obvious solution is to move to a free State.
