  1. Got it earlier tonight. 240 series. Appears to have the shrouded FSB; the portion ahead of the FSB is noticeably thicker than the portion of the barrel behind it.
  2. Not sure actually; I believe it's a 240. I'll know for sure tomorrow. Traded a SKS for the NIB Saiga, and I didn't think to ask which version it was.
  3. Have a NIB Saiga 5.45 coming into my FFL tomorrow. Gonna do the back end conversion probably next weekend. Question is, I want to have a flash hider and not a 74 break on it. What are my options? Especially, what are my options that don't involve replacing the stock FSB?
  4. What do you want it for? Recoil reduction or flash reduction? Well, depending on where you live, you have various options. For instance, if you lived near me, you could come here and do it yourself. Well, I'm not sure. Does 7.62x39 actually have enough recoil to warrant a comp? About all I have experience with is 20" AR's in 5.56mm, so I'm a little spoiled there. Also, Kansas City, KS area, so Houston would be rather a bit of a drive.
  5. So while I'm going down the list of stuff to get for my x39 conversion, I'm looking at getting a new (threaded) FSB. Now, with that will be coming a new muzzle attachment. I really like the looks of those Bulgy flash hiders, but I'm not sure that a Arsenal 74-style compensator wouldn't be more practical. What say you guys? Flash hider or 74 comp? Also, I'm not really set up to press off the FSB (Especially if it comes dimpled), do you guys have any suggestions as to a good smith I might contact for that?
  6. Well, when I get my x39 and do the conversion on it, it's going to wear a 4x24mm POSP with the 400m reticle. I figure that'll work out pretty well; I can use the irons for more up-close work (Though I might get some Tech-Sights instead of the rear leaf), and use the POSP for mid-range duty. Since I don't really consider 7.62x39mm to be more than a 350-400m cartridge, 4x sounds about right.
  7. So guys, I'm thinking hard about doing a x39 conversion. Not a full 103 conversion but I'll be part of the way. Plus it'll be good practice for converting a .223 Saiga to AKS-74 configuration. Here's what I'm looking at so far. Stock: ACE internal block side-folding skeleton stock. +1 US part Pistol Grip: Arsenal US-made pistol grip, or maybe a Tapco SAW grip, haven't decided yet. (This doesn't effect parts count, right? Have to replace a part with a US made part, not add a part that wasn't there before, right?) Handguards: Probably going to keep the normal Saiga one for a whil
