  1. What's your rationale for specifying TIG welding a plate over other processes (gas excluded) if done skillfully?Just curious.
  2. Remove the gas-tube, heat the tab for malleability, tap-tap-tap with a 4oz hammer to get the tab right, and problem solved. (unless the tab is cracked from before, if it is, it'll break off, at which point build it up, and mill it down)
  3. Try disassembling the problem mag and make sure there's no burrs inside or on the follower. Also, make sure it's not too narrow on the inside and dragging on shells. Test, then if issues persist, try a shot of silicone spray in the mag body. If it improves with slight lube, you still have a resistance issue, but at least you'll know it's a resistance issue and you can keep troubleshooting.
  4. I've been noticing that.A good deal of the time when I'm removing the head off a bolt lately I've expected to see your firing pin due to the spring pressure as I release pressure from the bolt head in the process of doing GlassBolt. This has been a rather recent thing. When did you do your first bolt mod? They may have been following your lead for some time now if you did it back when the S-12 bolts were even bigger & more rounded when they lacked the additional cut & had the 1 piece FP.
  5. If you have a good hand, stick weld it from the outside with a 3/32" electrode @ 70 amps & you should have sufficient penetration. If you're not really good with an arc welder, I wouldn't try that though.
  6. IDK man...... They also say WD's a great lube, which is a load of shit, and if it indeed does have fish oil, would we expect them to advertise it for their competitors? As for its performance as a rust preventative though, check out the Brownelle's test (top link) With ATF... I really never had issues with stuff gumming up. YMMV I guess.
  7. Over the past month & a half or so, I've been receiving spam emails from several former customers. Generally they'll say something like "You'll love this site", or something similar, or they'll have no subject line, just a link that sets off all sorts of alarms making your security go apeshit blocking malware. Has it happened to anybody here? (who reads this) Anyhow, be careful answering strange emails from even people you've known for a while. Read the link too. If someone you've only dealt with guns with is sending you a link with the word weightloss in the URL, there's something
  8. Jeeze.... When the SHTF? What'r you talkin' about? As it is right now I just grab the dipstick from my auto-trans. "Gun Lube" is a scam. The best lubricants in the world have already been made, and machines that have a whole lot harder life than a firearm use shitloads of them. Gun lubes are just a mix of this & that, a few drops of perfume, and a big-ass price tag. A thin layer of black Moly Grease for sheer surfaces, and a drop or 2 of ATF for rotational surfaces. ATF is a high heat lube with all kinds of corrosion inhibitors. If you're desperate, any machine's bou

Forum Business Member "Texas AK Designs" made them. It's their aluminium Galil style. Bug Nate to make more.
  10. I had to take several DOD polygraphs for my security clearance throughout the time I served. Every time they came up as inconclusive, even though I told the truth 100% each time. It gets annoying looking at the asshole's suspicious looks when he can't figure you out, so in all honesty, as far as I'm concerned they're a joke. I have deep underlying trust issues when it comes to people I do not know, people who just "rub me wrong", or authority structures, so I assume that's why they couldn't get a read on me.
  11. If it were a warranty thing, as you know, it'd be free & I'd reimburse shipping, but for just cleaning it up, call it $15.00 + $15.00 shipping. You could clean it up yourself with a simple cloth wheel on any grinder though. The resurfacing of the carrier & profile of the bolt is what takes time, and that's all already done. Micro-scuffs from heavy use can easily be taken out with a cloth wheel & buffing compound in a few minuets. The hard part of IceRack is getting it from this, how it comes, refined to this. Just place part of the carrier on the bench, and tilt it into t
  12. no worries brother, it doesn't.A larger knurled left side charger being welded to the spot on the front left part of the carrier wasn't the way to go, especially not on a longer one like I initially did for you. Too much force-leverage acting as a torsion stress at the joint, RIGHT where the carrier it's connected to is smacking into the front trunnion. It led to me taking a closer look at how it could be improved & brought to another level. The style you have now can withstand the abuse of firing 3" magnum slugs with the gas wide open. You'll split the carrier & snap the op-rod bef

I've had to warranty 3 total units out of well over 100 since I began and 2 of them ended up mentioned on youtube. lol And people wonder why I'm so anal on doing things ways that take 2-3 times as long as standard.... Murphy's law. That's why. It's a good thing though. Offer still stands. $100.00
  15. ^^ What he said, If you're at 3 that are barely over .07" as indicated by the Port Gauges that I include in GlassBolt, you're fighting a lost cause. That's why I include the Port Gauges. 3 that the .08" fits in with a bit of play tend to run decent if tuned well, but if you indeed do only have 3, you're pretty far under gassed for weak-weak stuff.. I recommend really working at getting the .07 in, then really working to see if you can get the .08". That's because carbon/lead mixture clogs the ports starting to form on the outside, and working in, so once your gas is right, use the perspect
  16. Talk about an S-12 forum vendor orgy there. lol Looks great. Very clean build.
  17. Just a heads up for anybody who isn't aware, when the carrier's all the way forward, its contact with the trunnion is on the left side, under the dust cover, so if you're looking at a gap still after removing the puck or gas plug, don't go randomly grinding on anything before you check the left side of the carrier where it butts to the trunnion. A small gap on the right side is normal.
  18. did the FTE occur with your buddy, because if it did, it's not the gun, but him. in which case there is nothing wrong with the gun. FTE can also be attributed to "wimp-wristing", not holding the firearm "solidly". this is really common with semi-auto pistols, but can be with a semi-shotgun Suppose you ... +1 Mainly because the new hammers have a different profile than the Russian hammer. Compare them side to side when you get a chance. +1Hammer profile really helps.
  19. Actually neither. Im knew I was under the impression that the threading that is apparent was the problem. I dont know why. No chipping, cracking or dimple issues I can see. Are the bolt carriers designed that way? I feel silly but hey better to know than not know. I saw the other thread and the front of the carrier had chipped. Mines in tip top shape so perhaps its nothing The depth of the female end of the carrier varies greatly unit to unit (see picture below) so on the units with shorter internally threaded sections, more threads stick out. Less visible threads (longer carrier sectio

      Yeah, Dude's a riot.

I've never had a friend that when hanging out with, I find myself required to launch fools across tables in bars so much with.

      Good times. :)

Dude organizes shit that does a lot of good though.

Other than parts for charity gun raffle builds, Jessie's the guy I do most of my charity work with because he can turn out massive crowds with his social networking skills.

  21. While faith in the Lord is generally the best defense one could have, Christ did say that one should sell their cloak to buy arms. Do us all a favor & keep a sidearm & an AK or two, along with a bunch of ammo. The more good people armed in the coming years, the better. The way I see it, even if I never use mine, or expire beforehand, they're in circulation, so there's at least a chance that if needed for the people, they, and my ammo, may be able to be obtained.
  22. Maybe your experience is different than that of friends & clients of mine, but according to multiple people I talk to, they're telling me that their experience is, yeah, sure, marines get a lot of rifle training, but half the regular army's spending more tome reading the ACOG manual, and every engagement they have is always overwhelming force against very few. Last customer I was talking to over here who just recently got back from Iraq was telling me that he'd be lucky to fire 30 rounds when training. Also, then there's the paper written by Ralph peters for the Army war college th
  23. If anybody can show me a theater that the offspring of the M-16 has ever held for the long haul, I'm all ears. Barefoot fools with AKs generally tend to eventually come out on top... Why you ask? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FinRqCocwGE Because it's the people's gun. It's not a maintenance whore like the AR. Today we train very few riflemen. Most of our troops are intentionally trained to depend on $1,500.00 optics, overwhelming force, and massive amounts of FA suppressive fire. They are scared of making warriors who can sustain without constant supply replenishment,
  24. LMFAO.... Glad to know Mike's off vacation, but damn... Now I have a veritable shit-ton of molot grips that picked up cheap as everybody spiked the price of them because I figured I'd need them in the future if they went scarce, and now they're going to be abundant again. Well, I don't see a tougher grip coming out any time soon, so I'm sure I'll get some use out of them. Maybe I'll toss one in here & there with random GlassBolt sets where the weapon's not yet converted, to motivate the client to take the plunge.
